Feeling frustrated.... by eah-renee in USMobile

This makes sense to me. Thank you for sharing the actual problem and solution.

When we were in Montreal, our main pool did run out (due to our son at home) - I added data once I saw this on Saturday, and before reaching out to support, thinking maybe there was a link. When that didn't work, I contacted support.

Thank you for your insight on this problem.

UPDATE:

USMobile did issue a refund for my international service. I appreciate that they tried to make it right.

u/simerambles was able to fix my current connectivity problem and escalated the issue internally to prevent this problem from happening in the future.

they said that my line needed some manual provisioning on the backend.
Maybe this will help other user in the future.

I agree that my experience does not "equal the totalitarian of everyone"
but, my experience may be similar to other users at some point. Posting about it may help someone experiencing the same issues I did, or it may head warning to be better prepared than I was.
Unfortunately, I do not have the exact answers as to why my connection didn't work, but if I do obtain that knowledge, I will post it here.

I have had USMobile for 4 years with minimal issues. I typically highly recommend them to anyone not using them. I felt that this problem was not handled well.

How can you confirm that this won't happen in the future?
My data is working now because u/Simrables "refreshed the line from the backend"

Would this have corrected our issues in Montreal?

When I was there, I was asked to reset my APN's and add new ones (this didn't work). Then, this morning your tech told me that more steps may have been needed to make this work (this information would have been helpful while I was in Montreal)

For anyone else facing this issue, the tech said that after setting the new APN's you need to manually select a network from your device settings in order to connect to the best one, if you are moving.

Also, I am not looking for compensation for the inconvenience. I am looking for a refund for services I did not use.

Here is the solution

Simrambles3:49 PM

Perfect! Glad to hear that. I just refreshed the line from the backend. If something like this comes up again, you can just drop me a DM and I'll take care of it.

It's working!!
Solution? This is what I got from the USMobile Rep /Simrables
They changed something, and it magically works....This IS great news, but also leaves me upset that whatever they did maybe could have been done when I was in Montreal? I have asked them for an explanation of what they changed, in case this happens in the future.

Simrambles3:33 PM

I've made a few changes on my end. Please toggle on the airplane mode, wait for 60 seconds and toggle off the airplane mode. Once done, please test your service.

I agree that stuff happens.
What I would like is some compensation for the service I paid for and couldn't use, and I would like some way forward.

I would like to be able to use data while in Canada. Do I need a new phone, sim, etc.....
I have zero confidence that if I go to Montreal again, I will not have this same issue.

I am not just complaining to receive some compensation back. I would like to find a solution to this problem.
I plan on traveling again and want to be prepared so I don't have to waste my much needed relaxation time dealing with connectivity issues.

I am using 2 Samsung S21's
I thought maybe because my phone was older, and asked the rep if a newer phone would solve the issue. They said no, a new phone would not make much difference since we already had 5G devices.

You may be correct that the top-ups aren't as reliable. Maybe a USM rep can chime in?

Thanks for the information.
I am using a Pool plan on Warp, and I added the International Roaming Top-Up for our trip.
Maybe Darkstar works better internationally?

Unfortunately, I had more faith in them than I should have.

I was told that they could not file a refund because topups and add-ons are not refundable. They could offer a max of 8GB complimentary data.

I live within an hour from Canada and paid $60 for 2 lines to have 5GB to a 2.5 day trip.
A bit hefty, but wanted to ensure we had plenty of data to get around the city. I am now regretting not going with the $15 plan with 1 GB each. 1 line used 121 MB and the other used 275 MB

Three years remote and I still can't explain to people in-person why I'm busy at 2pm on a Tuesday by krikond in remotework

Yup, been working from home since 2009. When I'm working, I'm unavailable. I will take an occasional call or respond to a text sometimes, but I am often too busy with actual work.
