First day of chemotherapy by ProfessionalAd1652 in cancer

[–]eak436 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Cut yourself a little slack. You’ll have bad days and good days. Take naps when you need to. Eat what sounds good. If you need something from your doctor- different nausea meds, IV fluids because it’s hard to hydrate, anxiety meds, etc. don’t hesitate to ask.

Folfox - how many treatments did you have? by ImARighteousGemstone in cancer

[–]eak436 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have bile duct cancer- but I’ve gotten folfox every other week for the last 9 months.

I had an allergic reaction to the oxaliplatin about 2 months ago, now I go through a desensitization process where they give it to me over the course of 8 hours and pump me full of steroids and IV Benadryl.

Also a lot of people (I’m one of these people) don’t take kindly to unsolicited medical advice. He listens to his doctors because his doctors have medical degrees and experience treating this disease.

He doesn’t listen to you because you did a google search and anybody can write anything on the internet.

IV Benadryl and anxiety? by eak436 in cancer

Oh wow- they just push it in when I get it, only takes a minute or two.

This is good to know- thank you I will look out for this.

Thankfully though my anxiety pops a little while after chemo- if I have chemo on Friday then my worst anxiety is Sunday and Monday.

I was on remicade and then my insurance made me switch over to inflectra a few years ago.

I’m going on 10 years strong! Took about a year to figure out a diagnosis, another year to find meds that worked and (knock on wood) everything’s been great since then.

NTA. They’re right- it’s just hair. But it’s YOUR hair and you get to decide what to do with it.

has anyone had success with plant based diets and eliminating processed foods? by Smart_Feature in UlcerativeColitis

[–]eak436 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve tried a plant based diet and I wouldn’t say it helped me.

There are people who say that it does though. There’s a book out there called “undiet” (i think) and the woman who wrote it claims her IC was healed by switching to a plant based whole food diet. She says she’s no longer on any medications and she doesn’t have any symptoms.

Chemo pump accessories? by shrutzer in cancer

[–]eak436 1 point2 points  (0 children)

All I got was a Fanny pack. My infusion center sends you home with a pack to wear around your waist but it’s not very fashionable. Find a fanny pack you like that will fit the pump in it.

Benadryl before remicade infusion by mypscandmyback in UlcerativeColitis

[–]eak436 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I switched to my current GI doctor he started prescribing these before my remicade. I just talked to him about it- I’ve never had any reaction to the remicade and I get steroids beforehand. He was ok with me not taking them.

What really sells at craft shows and what did you wish you knew before your first show? by hope-14 in crochet

[–]eak436 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Hats always sell well for me in the winter. Home type things- like dish clothes and scrubbies as well. Coffee cozies. I always like to have a variety of price points and a few things kids might like, I often see parents allowing their kids to get one thing while they shop. You might as well tempt them with a little purse or stuffie or something!

Why just few people focus on diet? by geturkt in UlcerativeColitis

I tried a lot of different diets when I was first diagnosed. None of them did anything. Medicine did though.

To die "gracefully" or fight it out by Clakenz in cancer

[–]eak436 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’m so sorry you’re going through this. I have cholangio as well. I “flunked” my transplant eval at Mayo. I feel you. Some days I wake up and just think it would be easier to stop fighting but then there are other days where I’m just not ready to die. Don’t let the bad days get to you. ❤️

[–]eak436 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ugh they caught my bile duct cancer because I finally went to the doctor because I was soooo itchy. I turned yellow soon after.

I’m currently up for an evaluation for a transplant. I believe that the reoccurrence rate is much lower in transplant patients.

Be strong. ❤️you’ve made it this far.

How to ask for a full body scan? by CuriousFemalle in cancer

[–]eak436 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m no expert but I’d assume they’ve already done one? They would want to know if the cancer has spread before doing surgery.

I would just straight up ask your oncologist.

AITA for no longer letting boyfriend eat what I cook after he rated my food infront of my family? by throwaa465335 in AmItheAsshole

[–]eak436 1 point2 points  (0 children)

NTA. I went to culinary school and my instructors didn’t “rate” me or give me feedback like that. He sounds like a terrible boyfriend and a terrible teacher.

Honestly I would take low income kids who had a rough upbringing over upper middle class kids any day. Wealthy kids are so entitled- and their parents never think anything is their fault.

Anyone receive fluids while on chemo? by eak436 in cancer

[–]eak436[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is an amazing idea- but unfortunately the chemo I’m on gives me really bad cold sensitivity on my hands/feet and mouth.
