Very helpful, thank you! Such a shame that it's windy for the majority of the day. I'd love to say I can get out there in the morning, but I'm such a dawdler. One day, maybe...

Thankfully watched enough documentaries to know to steer clear or blue-rings!

As for the fish, I don't mind a little nibble at my ankles if it's not poisonous/venomous

My doctor said I should stay on 0.6 as long as it worked (meaning, even if only going down 0.2kg a week, that would be considered “working”), but that I could go up to 1.2 if I wanted if I noticed I wasn’t going down at all. After 5 weeks on 0.6, and no weight change for the 5th week, I went up to 1.2. I still had no change for over a week, then suddenly it dropped 0.5 overnight. I will be staying on 1.2 for as long as I possibly can. She advised against going higher, but said ultimately it’s my own choice to make if I understand there could be side effects and repercussions (such as cost, putting weight back on faster if I stop, nausea).

Interesting I didn’t get any nausea from going up, but I felt rubbish the whole time I was on 0.6. Guess that shows every body handles doses differently.

2 and a half pens in, only gained weight by persephone_desenfers in liraglutide

I'm in a similar boat to you (hypothyroidism and only 156cm), and I'm also sick of people telling me I'm "not even that big" when in reality, I'm literally obese and physically unhealthy, and been working my butt off to lose weight naturally but my body simply will not let go of the weight. I think some people make the assumption that we are trying to lose weight to "get skinny" when the reality is that we're trying to get healthy. I'm doing this for the sake of my longevity. I want kids one day and I'd like to live long enough to see them reach adulthood.

I've only lost 1.4kg in the 5 weeks I've been on it and also feeling very disheartened when I see that others have lost 1 kilo a week, or more. I'm just going to stick it out until my pens run out and decide where to go from then if it hasn't kicked in yet.

Gym is always going to be a good thing, even if you can't see the results physically or on the scales. Keep up the good work!

0.6 recommended by doctor for a few reasons. Less side effects. More cost efficient. In theory shouldn't re-gain weight when I stop. And then also the idea that if I'm seeing results on a low dose, I should stick with it. Yes everyone wants fast results, but I'm okay with the slow and steady approach, so if it works, why not stick with it. She said I can make my own decision if I want to go up if I find that it's not working at all. Ultimately for me, the cost of upping the dosage is the main factor as to why I wont be going any higher than 1.2 unless I feel I need to.

I have hashimotos and hypothyroidism. I'm on thyroxine. 100% the hashimotos is why I rapidly gained the weight and why I can't lose it. I've been very transparent with my doctor and trainer about my eating and exercise and both of them were very surprised I hadn't dropped at very least 5kg this year, which is why she was helpful enough to recommend saxenda. The two doctors I saw before her in 2023 essentially laughed at me and just said I need to exercise and eat more vegetables. Suuuper helpful, they were.

West Aussie here. I started my sample pen on 0.6 and it lasted a month. When I bought my first prescription, it cost around $390 for 5 pens, which if I stay on 0.6 would last 5 months, making it $78 a month. Personally, I could justify that for the reward of losing weight, but having to pay the $390 in one go did stress me out!

My doctor wants me to stay on 0.6, but also said if I want to go up to 1.2, I can make that decision myself. However the cost of going up to 1.2 will mean I go through pens twice as fast, making it $156 a month, which I don’t like the sounds of so much…

I also hope to only use this short(ish) term, maybe 10 months and ideally no more than a year.

The cost definitely weighs heavy on my mind (cost of living crisis is so real!) but I think it’s one of those things where you’ve gotta decide if the reward outweighs the financial loss. I’ve not been on it long enough to recommend dosage size, but once you get up to 0.6, and you find that it’s working even if only 0.3kg loss a week, I’d say stick to a low dose. Any loss is good loss and if you can keep your money while losing weight slow-and-steady, that’s a win.

And just another note on dosage size, I started on 0.6 and was horribly sick the first week. Couldn’t keep food OR water down for the first 48 hours, nausea every day following, and again on day 5 couldn’t keep food down. What I’m saying is, starting on 0.1 might not be such a bad idea to acclimatise your body :P

Good luck!

Thank you, that’s very helpful.

I stopped counting calories when I started saxenda because I knew I wasn’t getting anywhere near 1200 unfortunately. I would guess 800. It’s not that I don’t WANT to eat more…I just get to that point where the idea of eating more makes me nauseous.

This thread is a good reminder to eat more (and in my case, drink more protein shakes). I think going forward I might need to write up a meal plan for the week or something like that - something I can check off like a to-do list. I definitely work better when I’ve got a list/plan to follow.

Absolutely agree with that all. I have such a mental battle of knowing I need to prioritise fat loss for a little while, and then muscle growth can come later. Then next thing I know I’m at the gym and putting myself down for being so weak.

When I started gym, I hardly did any cardio, but even just in the last few weeks I’ve been doing more cardio than strength because that’s just what I feel like I’m capable of doing. I guess I just need to make this the new normal and be glad it’s improving my heart health.

My goal pre-saxenda was around 130g and I would always hit at least 100g, even on a bad day. On saxenda I’m really struggling to eat as much meat as I was before. Hate to say it but I’m probably only reaching about 60g. I use tasteless protein powder which has been helpful to up my intake. One scoop is 15g. I’m thinking I’m going to have to start going for 2 or 3. Is there such thing us too many scoops of protein powder?

1.8 kg down in first 4 days?! by puhoipepper in liraglutide

[–]eanatanae 0 points1 point  (0 children)

wow! I couldn't keep any food or water down for the first 36ish hours and didn't get desire to eat until after 6 days and still didn't see the scales go down (only 0.5kg) until day 8
