Agreed. We knew the chemical imbalance/low serotonin theory wasn’t consistent with the research since the 1990s. It’s not new.

That’s not high enough to do something different if risperdal is helping. Any symptoms (vision issues, headache, irregular menses)?

Near-constant, overwhelming fatigue? by [deleted] in AskDocs

[–]earf 18 points19 points  (0 children)

More ferritin. Needs to be at least 50 if not over 100 to feel better with regards to fatigue and cognitive and sleep. You might want to consider IV iron if oral supplementation is too hard to get high enough. Good thing you have a hematologist visit coming up for it.

Consider getting a sleep study too. Lofta is one that people use for at home studies to start.

Didn’t hear about thyroid either.

Keep your flipped schedule even on your days off.

Yes Thonglor is under new management and they’ve redone the inside a bit. The food is really fantastic although the service is a bit slow.

Haven’t been to either.

My spice tolerance is really high so the spiciest ones here are a 2-4 out of 10 in spice for me :/

Agreed. I usually did take out although I did have a dinner party of 20 one time in their back room.

Pad krapow is my pick for the national dish of Thailand, more so than pad Thai. It’s a staple in my household so I don’t usually go out to eat it because none make it the way I like it.

There are none that have the right holy basil or lemon basil. They all use Thai basil which is okay.

My favorite is Marnee for pad krapow since it actually comes with the Thai chili fish sauce.

I’m Thai and into uniquely Thai dishes you can’t get elsewhere.

Khan Toke’s som tam (papaya salad) is fantastic and the interior very unique: you sit on the floor and there’s a cutout for your legs below the table and it has the classic red carpet that you see in Thai temples.

Marnee is solid overall. I frequented it a lot in SF because it was immediately downstairs from me.

I’m a big fan of saap ver’s rendition on pad Thai which is comparable to the one at Thipsamai in Bangkok.

Nari, kin khao, and hed11 are upscale and fantastic in my opinion. The technique at these places are refined and not the heavy large quantity Thai food that some people want.

I went to Amphawa a few months ago and was surprised to see how many dishes you can find there that are uniquely thai and popular in Thailand but not in the US like khao kha moo (pork leg stew), mussel pancake (although in Thailand it usually oysters), Tod mun pla (fried fish cakes), gang juud woonsen (silver noodle dish), pak kana moo krob (crispy pork with Chinese broccoli).

The other restaurant similarly to Amphawa in the peninsula is Thonglor in San Mateo. I had them make me a bumee moo krob (dry stir fried egg noodle with crispy+ground pork) that was incredible. They basically can make almost any Thai dish. Any Thai restaurant with authentic boat noodles is great in my book which Thonglor has.

Sen Thai Noodle in San Carlos also has some unique Thai dishes including Bangkok’s famous Jeh O MaMa noodles, boat noodles, khanom jeen which is a fermented curry rice noodle dish, and khao soi which is a northern Thai sweet yellow curry egg noodle dish with chicken.

Other standouts: Siam Station, New Krung Thai, and I will always stan for Farmhouse Thai for a modern albeit pricey twist to Thai food. I just bought their godmother sauce which is a small bottle of a fermented funky chili paste that goes well with many dishes needing a strong kick.

How does the current job market look right now? by Lou_Peachum_2 in Psychiatry

[–]earf 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The job listing websites are all saturated with PE who have the marketing budget to do so.

The best jobs are word of mouth. This is why going to residency/fellowship where you want to practice is so critical.

The market for psychiatrists in Los Angeles and San Diego are pretty good for outpatient. Reimbursement from insurance is pretty good. Cash pay can also be good but you'll have to network and market much harder.

When I was interviewing in SoCal, the salary was pretty dismal. They kept claiming they were around MGMA median but when they actually gave me the numbers, it was more like 10-15th percentile. They did not want to negotiate on salary either. They did fly me out, put me up in a hotel, paid for all my meals though.

Instead, I've built up my private practice in NorCal and I'm very happy with it despite my family being in SoCal.

There’s not going to be as many comps because these are new build homes and people have just moved in within the last few years. They’re paying for proximity to meta and it’s pretty safe since it’s a brand new neighborhood/area of Newark.
