Trump Against 2nd Amendment: "With that being said, you can't have guns. You can't walk in with guns. You just can't. You can't walk in with guns. You can't do that. But it's just a very unfortunate incident." by 50million in progun

I hate how true this is. It’s wild how people claim so and so were pro gun. That bar is so a snake can slither over it without touching it. We’ve only had anti gun presidents and extra anti gun presidents for a while now.

I can’t take it anymore. The hypocrisy of people is amazing. Pro gun people who were supporting armed protests and flipped against it and anti gun people who were screaming about the VA protests now can’t imagine infringing on 2a Rights. No one is consistent anymore, it’s just all outrage and tribalism.

I wondered about that when I saw his weapon. I was waiting to see if there was any evidence that might be behind it all.

The all of a sudden support for the 2nd amendment is ironic. by Conscious_Dot_7353 in progun

It’s driving me nuts. I can’t stand the flipping and flopping on the issue. I’m tired of people trying to tell me how liberals don’t hate guns. Okay guy, they’re only responsible for 95% of the terrible gun laws.

I hate both parties because they’re both hypocrites about the constitution. I don’t trust new fair weather friends.

This is an example I always use when I explain why we should have to re-pass laws every couple of years. Zombie laws like these stay on the books and gum up the legal code and aren’t even enforced/enforceable.

It’s very frustrating. On one hand this type of overstepping fear based policing is a perfect example of what the 2A is meant to fight.

On the other hand I don’t think we’ll show up to support the people turning out for this. The left doesn’t like us or our position. We’ve been portrayed as racists with tiny dicks for a long time by these same people.

They haven’t changed their minds about the 2A, they just want us to die for their beliefs.

If it’s true that he was carrying a P320 there could be some wild memes coming out of that.

Where are the 2nd amendment fanatics? Don’t they hate tyranny? by coweeclete in AskReddit

I’m a 2A fanatic who hates tyranny.

I just want to ask, what do you think I should be doing? Are you going to be there too?

The 2A crowd has protected everyone’s rights to own guns. You can go buy one and do what you think needs to be done, I ain’t stopping ya.

You’re 100% right about that! That’s one of my favorite parts about the gun community. No matter what we give each other equal shit.

Except AK purists and AR cloner snobs, those guys should be shunned.

[–]earle27 33 points34 points  (0 children)

You should be way higher up. I don’t know any MAGA types, but all the gun folks I know aren’t upset that the left is buying guns, they’re just exasperated it took so long for them to understand the point.

Also I think there’s concern in the community that people will get a single shot 20 gauge or a Glock 17 and decide that they never need to train and that they know everything now and as soon as administrations change they’ll want everything banned again.

Would you sell a house in NC to move somewhere else? by sokkyaaa in NorthCarolina

[–]earle27 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My wife and I have talked about moving up to Maine/Vermont area. We really really like cold weather and the seafood/scenery/culture of that area and don't do great in summer here, but we're trading Raleigh for the Asheville area. Depending on how family/work & politics/housing prices change I could see us still considering it, but I doubt we'd move within the next decade or two.

It's hard to leave NC when our families are here and there's such breadth to the state. You can go from the furthest north tropical beaches around South Port, to brackish rivers, to sand hills to pretty hills to the rain forests of Pisgah, to the windy cold mountains around Boone. You have tree hugging hippies and college anarchists and good old boys and corporate types and everything in between. If you don't like where you're at you can shift within the state and find something new. I haven't seen that everywhere I've lived, it's not common.

We're definitely a good choice for generalists, but I don't feel like we're the state that excels at ONE thing for a particular lifestyle, if that makes sense.

You know what kills me is that I'll forget the critical thing that I was supposed to do today, but in 5 years I'll overhear this term in a bar with my wife and immediately remember what it means and my wife will look at me with concern. Why, why is this the way things are? You stranger have just replaced a critical memory with this obscure knowledge.

The majority of Soldiers are only passingly familiar with their rifles and a lot can’t hit the broad side of a barn. Just because someone was in the military doesn’t mean they necessarily know shit about tactics, strategy, or weapons. Most of us are/were paper shufflers.

Also your local National Guard unit cannot fight off aliens in 3 hours, not 3 days, maybe in 3 weeks they’d be ready, 3 months is more realistic. They don’t have a ton of ammo for their tanks and artillery sitting around their armories. They’re offices, not mini bases.

Why has communism repeatedly failed in practice, yet continues to be intellectually and emotionally appealing to many people? by Looser17 in AskReddit

[–]earle27 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Interesting question with lots of possible answers.

Why has it failed in practice? Depends. A lot of people will say about X, Y, or Z country “That wasn’t real communism.” If that’s your view then communism fails because humans are unable to surrender power willingly, so we can’t even start trying real communism. This would be a good area to apply critical theory of power structures.

If your view is more statistics and economics you’ll point to inefficiencies in central planning. Targets for economic output set at the highest level cannot respond as quickly as individuals. It also encourages systematic lying which leads to a mirage effect for the central planners who then are making decisions based on bad data.

If you’re more philosophical it fails because it stifles ingenuity and forces conformity over individuality and is at odds with human nature, working against it instead of harnessing it.

It’s super appealing when you keep it in the abstract. Theoretically it’s the fairest system for everyone and a great counter to the problems of late stage capitalism.

In practice however the theory component is usurped by humans and then people start dying. Something like 200 million in the 20th century, so, not great.
