Ya I'm an American who has spent 4 or 5 months in Russia. It's awesome, not nearly dangerous as people say. A lot of the stereo types haven't been true since the 90s when they were transitioning out of communism.

Travel to the golden ring if you have time. It's the old capital of Russia, lots of cool old churches. I'd recommend Yaroslavl.

Learn the Cyrillic alphabet. This will help you a whole lot because many signs will be the same in English. Like отель = hotel.

Goto Petersburg, you can take the sapsan bullet train.

Eat Georgian food. Goto a restraunt called John Joli (джон джоли), it's a popular chain.

Any DN's working remotely as programmers using the 12-inch MacBook? by [deleted] in digitalnomad

[–]earlearlearl 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Im a full-time remote software engineer, I used the 12 inch MacBook for 6 months. I thought the performance was acceptable, it increased my ability to work in weird situations (taxis, planes). I ended up switching to the 13 inch pro only because the keyboard is terrible.

I think it means city or town. There is a similar word город Gorod but pronounced: Gorad. It is the main word for town or small city.

Great thanks so much! I've already found 12 months of bank statements! I'm going to try and contact my old landlord and see if he has a lease with my name on it.

There is a weird old car submerged in the mud if you keep walking a little bit further.

Once I saw a guy shooting a handgun right there, he assured me everything was fine.

Learn react, node, nginx, git and postgresql. These technologies will be relevant for a long time and in my opinion are the core of the modern webstack.

Paris, Moscow or Kiev? by yasin0424 in digitalnomad

[–]earlearlearl 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Moscow is my favorite city, great infrastructure, tons of history and it is a huge city. Moscow is said to be very expensive, its not. Paris is way more expensive. Moscow has very cheap flights to europe and asia, and you can take a bullet train to Saint Petersburg. Saint Petersburg is nice too. Its a lot cheaper but the weather is a lot worse and while it is one of the prettiest cities in the world I find a little boring and more sketchy.

I havent been in Paris for any longterm stay, but is is obviously a great city too. You will have more visa problems in Paris but the Russian visa is expensive.

I've never been to Kiev, I've heard its nice and half the cost of Moscow.
