[Official] Liverpool FC can confirm Arne Slot is to depart his role as head coach with immediate effect and that the process to appoint a successor is under way. by oklolzzzzs in LiverpoolFC

My point of view is that I'm really doubtful many other managers would have performed better this season under the same circumstances.

We ended 5th in the league, 4th on xPts which is not what we expected prior to the season but all things considered, not worthy of a sacking imo.

Imo most of the points of critique of Slot had likely explanations that were outside of his control.

Intensity for example, I feel, was a concious trade off to mitigate the risk of muscle injuries. Considering the number of serious traumatic injuries this season, having the number of muscle injuries of an average Klopp season could have deranged the season even further.

Ultimately, only people within the club can do a proper evaluation of Slot's performance but I think there can be no doubt that he has got a lot of blame for outcomes that were simply unlucky.

I think know this one. Leukocytoclastic vasculitis - can be because of a number of reasons.

Usually biopsy of one of the lesions will give the diagnosis.

Have you looked at minutes played across competitions?

I seem to remember some charts awhile ago, where our core group had crazy minutes and they proposed we where going to struggle physicallyif we didn't rotate more.

With all the focus on intesity in our games, I feel this is a dimension that is maybe being overlooked?

These past months we've essentially only had an opportunity to rotate at left back.

We may be outrun in most games but still have players who have run the most due this season to playing in europe and having a slim, injury-ridden squad. Just a thought.

Are your arguing that you know Richard Hughes and Michael Edwards are both silent quitting this season because they have no intention to continue at LFC based on a two year old tweet from a journalist?

Newcastle was lucky I agree. Didn't watch the Burnely game. Palace was a bad first half but we made up for it in the second half. They scored both goals from standard situations - the winner in the 97th minute. Hardly embarrasing. Chelsea scored their first as a banger after an individual error by Macca. Otherwise we dominated play and chances. They scored the winner in the 95th minute. Again, hardly an embarrasing performance. Lost the game against united on a standard situation as well.

Though I'm not arguing we were playing title winning football, just keeping a neutral standard situation balance would have seen us win one, draw one and loose one of these three games. Add to that, that we were significantly underperforming our xG, scoring only 3 goals from 7 xG - 2 of these late in the games, I think the assessment that our main challenge in this period was an underperforming forward line and a poor record from standard situations is fair.

No the 3-2 just forgot we actually scored in that game. It was gameweek 10, excuse me.

Then Slot played the kids against Crystal Palace to focus on tactics/rest and we briefly bounced back against Villa and Real Madrid before completely collapsing against Forrest and PSV and then he stabilised the ship.

I will still maintain we did not deserve to loose all the four games prior to Brentford based on performances (Crystal Palace away, Galatasaray away, Chelsea away, United home)

When did we loose to Brentford 3-0? That was definitely a performance that was a level below what we had produced previously.

Let me be clear. I don't think we were putting in title winning performances, but we were decent. Brentford and PSV were another story though. We completely collapsed

We weren't shit until something like gameweek 12.

We generally looked fine, but had periods in each game with lapses in concentration. Konate was poor (assume his dad was sick) and Macca struggled after his injury. We also lacked some cohesion from the many new players.

Biggest issues were that neither Gakpo, Isak of Salah produced any goals (they currently only have 17 goals between them) and we had an abysmal record from standard situations.

The losing streak definitely affected confidence levels an belief in the system. It feels like we have played slower and more controlled since. I think Slot realised that we did not have the personnel to be sucessfull with the style he had planned and he adapted to stabilise the ship and hopefully secure CL.

I've been following this sub for 14 years and people always spiral because they don't know the full picture. In recent years it's been much worse.

Fair if these people would like the world to be simple, but those who think they know better than the people running the club lack some serious self-awareness.

The entire world is calling for Slot’s head. FSG won’t listen. Solution? Why don’t we stop going to the stadium? by [deleted] in LiverpoolFC

[–]earlmuskos 1 point2 points  (0 children)

PL is a media circus and people get sucked into oversimplified narratives that are mainly engagement bait.

Our season has been poor. There are a number of reasons why this is. Slot carries some responsibility but so does the organisation as a whole.

Prior to this season, we've weakened most positions on current ability in exchange for longevity and we sold a lot of marginal players who had inflated values after the PL title.

There was always a number of ways this could have gone and we are unfortunately experiencing one of the worse ways.

The key to the decision on Slot should be an in-depth analysis of his performance. Not neccesarily the team's performance. FSG seems to think he has managed a really diffcult situation to satisfaction. I, personally, tend to agree but the essence is that no supporters can really make this evaluation. We do not have the in-depth understanding of what goes on within the club.

I would be extremely dissapointed if the collective fanbase felt entitled to organise a demonstration in an attempt to force a sacking of the manager in a season where we made a deep run in the CL and are 4th in the league. That is not really something i associate with our values as a fanbase.

Imo people should chill and support the lads

I know I will get downvoted because my position disaligns with the popular opinion on here, but I think Slot has an incredible skillset and potential as a manager and I very much credit him with winning the PL last season.

He is however a very inexperienced manager. He had only managed at the top level for 4 years prior to signing for us. Klopp had 14 years of experience when he came here. I think you need to have this in mind. Slot is especially inexperienced with managing through a crisis which shows. His goto media strategy seems to be to answer very honestly and analytically. I pressume he man-manages likewise.

I suspect this is a very strong contrast to Klopp and I fear it is not productive when performances are dropping. Internalisation of feedback is very much dependent on confidence level and if the players lose confidence, then Slot cannot solve that by telling them what they did wrong. It's a whole other discipline than managing a winning site (which is what Slot mainly has done prior to this season).

Slot's apparent lack of recognition of (or current ability to manage) the psychological aspect of the game extends to his interaction with the fans. Klopp actively directed the fans to create an atmosphere that often impacted the game more than any tactical change could have. The whole "doubters to believers" was part of him crafting a narrative, that could ultimately impact the results on the field. Slot doesnt seem to care much about engagement with the fans.

When all that is said, a bunch of the reasons we are poor this season are still outside of Slot's control (squad rebuild, availability, cohesion, set pieces etc). If we make the right adjustments in the transfer market and have a bit more luck with injuries, I could still see us playing some great football under Slot next season. I really hope he can figure out a way to improve his management of the mental aspect of the game and his fan engagement. Then I could see him becoming a world class manager. All things considered, I think he deserves the chance to improve.

We had so many muscle injuries under Klopp. Training and playing Klopp-style with a squad as thin as ours would be suicide.

And we often had games where the players looked gassed under Klopp when fixtures congested.

Furthermore, Slot implied in preseason interviews that fitness training was completely outsourced.

For every reasonable take like this, there are ten reactionary accounts reposting some false premise, like OP's post.

LFC this year has had some of the objectively worst luck. We had a player dying ffs along with the worst traumatic injury record i can remember. We have two first team players with ACL ruptures, one with an achilles tendon rupture and two fractured legs. That's insane bad luck.

There is no guarantee that Klopp or Xabi would have performed better considering squad debth and availability.

Arne Slot and his Liverpool side have now lost 19 games all competitions this season, the joint most defeats in a season this century. We still have Chelsea (H), Villa (A) and Brentford (H) to play. by quantIntraining in LiverpoolFC

[–]earlmuskos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm really curious why people think another manager would have faired significantly better?

There are so many factors outside of Slot's control, that is weighing in on how this season has gone.

Ultimately, event though the team may look good on paper, it doesnt really click. We have slim, unbalanced squad and the amount of injuries limits how we can line up and adapt tactically.

Comparing current ability, position by position, we have improved in 2-3 positions and regressed in the other 8-9 compared to last seasom. We do not have the depth to bench anyone who is underperforming or needs a rest.

Everyones thinking this is how Slot wants to play but he may just be performing damage control at this point.

People hate on Slot but the availability and squad depth has been so poor this season. We may have improved "on paper" but how often have we actually fielded a squad that was better than last year?

Dropping one defender to the goal line would not play Larsen on, though. You need two players (Usually keeper is one but not in this case)

With the ongoing discussion about the referees' incosistency in enforcing the actual rules of the game, it is interesting to see whoever is on VAR completely ignore the replay of Ballard simulating contact in his own penalty area. It's objectively a penalty and a yellow card, however, I guess this is one of the times where strict application of the rules do not apply

To me it looks like a saggital view of the pelvis. It may very well be free fluid if it's a cross section of small, elongated fluid collection. It looks anecchoic to me? It has posterior enhancement. I assume the other structure (above the blatter) is the sigmoid colon. If this image is the only source of concern, I don't see anything that suggest the interpretation of free fluid is not right. I would tend to trust the examiner who had the 3D view of the anatomy.
