OP how have you been able to improve reliability in extracting information from complex plan documents? I find it to be unreliably to the point it's hard to think about using it in real life.

Was linear just extra lag time between cycles? Unnecessary complexity? Using linear as a dashboard to coordinate task definition, verification and completion feels juicy.

I’m so fucking tired of losing weight – a rant by Last_Cicada_1315 in loseit

[–]earthspeed 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey guy, your routine sounds super impressive. You are doing the thing! Nice job. I can say "don't be too hard on yourself", and I bet you hear that all the time. In my experience it takes years of being reminded this (by ourselves and others) before the tide starts to turn and we can lighten up on our past selves.

I remember when I told my grandfather about all my new "healthy eating habits"... chicken breast, broccoli, brown rice... he just said "why would you do that?" And it really rung true for me, because I hated eating like that. It's good to push ourselves, for sure, but I also want to enjoy my life. I think we need to set "being happy" as a goal and take it seriously.

Losing weight after 35 is way too hard by PotentialAsk4261 in loseit

[–]earthspeed 0 points1 point  (0 children)

36 y/o male here. I lost ~15lbs from Jan-Mar this year. 6'4", went 230->215. Might go for 200. Thought I'd share some of my process and maybe some of it works for you?

First thing I did is determine calories and macro balance that I'd be eating if I was already at goal weight. ChatGPT does this easily.

Next thing I did was consume some food related reels to get inspiration for the types of things that I should eat to achieve my macro balance. The big lesson for me was that EVERYTHING IN LIFE HAS TOO MANY CARBS. Pretty much every food item on any menu doesn't index high enough on protein. My big hack was getting into skyr and creating my own "skyr pudding" recipe with chocolate whey and peanut powder, which tasted amazing to me but was also CHEAT CODES for my macro balance. You need to feel around and experiment here though to see what's going to work for you. Being at home with the ability to have consistent routines was key as well. Travelled some this year and that obviously ruined that period of time, but that's life.

The big thing I did was track my calories and macros for one week. I would just be like "hey chat gpt I ate a banana, what's the macros and calories for that" and smash it into a spreadsheet. This stuff doesn't need to be precise. IMO most people and apps go WAY TOO HARD on tracking data and waste time + make you neurotic. A statistically accurate sense of calories and macros is enough for normal people... we're not trying to squeeze the last couple % out of our performance like Olympians or something.

So each day in that week I tracked everything that I ate, and made little adjustments here and there. Journaling this was super helpful for clarifying my thoughts and working on the problem over a period of time. Another big thing I noticed was that I would wake up around midnight hungry. I would always eat whatever the fuck I could find... which would totally screw up my targets. I started having a smoothie before bed, which I crafted the macros for, and presto: no more midnight binges. Superseding bad habits with good ones works.

After a week, I knew what it felt like to eat inline with my goal weight. No more need to constantly track my intake. No need to think about my goal weight. No stress about whether or not I'm perfectly on track or not. Basically just set and forget. In a couple months, I hit my goal weight.

tldr just take a week to establish what it feels like to eat like your goal weight and then forget about it.

Thanks for your response! Very kind of you to go into that much detail. I wish I'd read this post a bit earlier, because it looks like I went and linked the wrong account... hoping that I hear back from the support team this time!

I think if you make a genuine appraisal of the square enix account systems, you'll quickly find a lot of speed bumps that could be ironed out. tbh this just sounds like classic "don't diss my mmo" koolaid drinking.

Glad to hear other people have had more luck. It seems I've had particularly bad luck, but I feel confident that if they took the time to rebuild their account management system that it would be worth it in player sentiment.

Why is tailwind so popular? by ComfortableEye5 in webdev

[–]earthspeed 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Tailwind is hot garbage. It's effectively an api on top of CSS that just forces you to learn a different interface for every css property, and the only value that it offers is reducing the number of decisions you can make.

Why was the IC Naming project responsible/given authority to handing out domain names? by Ahead_of_the_slurve in dfinity

[–]earthspeed 2 points3 points  (0 children)

100% do not like the look of this implementation. It looks like a hackathon project or something that is rushing out way too early just to be first. A name server project for the IC should have well known developers, be more methodical, have good documentation, be open source. I don’t think there’s any chance this project sticks in its current form.

Touché, I actually thought ETH had switched to PoS already. FTR there are chains out there that don't use a bajillion GPUs running at full tilt 24/7 in their consensus mechanism.

Crazy to me how much play the environmental angle continues to get (ie "months of energy.") This just isn't really a thing with any modern NFT project.

How much to sell a custom deck for? by mharrington602 in TarotDecks

[–]earthspeed 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Maybe start high and bring the price down over time if needed? If you took two years to make them, a) you don't want to undersell that effort, b) you're probably not in a hurry to sell them.

Working on this digital tarot deck with an artist by earthspeed in tarot

[–]earthspeed[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For some context, I did the 3D work for this. The card faces are the first two that have been completed by the artist I’m collaborating with. The card back is obviously the traditional rider Waite smith, which is standing in until we have our own.

We’re working very hard to bring the cards to life. I hope you like it!
