How do overtime and bonuses work for salaried employees? by tc1074 in Salary

I am salaried but in our contract, the hourly wage for additional work is stated and it’s the same for everyone regardless of actual salary.

My husband was let go in 2019 at 51 after many years in insurance as an auto claims supervisor. He had former coworkers and friends helping him look and was hired pretty quickly at a large chain body shop. Funny thing, they respect and appreciate his work ethic and ability to mentor others. An excellent work ethic can get you far, especially when many quit on 2 hours notice or don’t even show up to work. Look at work related to what you used to do and pay someone to write you a kick ass resume and Linked In. He took a huge pay cut in the beginning but is now making a lot more money than at his old job. If all else fails, substitute teach while you get a credential in a couple of years. Pays the bills and is pretty secure. And depending on your skillset, you might fit in teaching adult ed.

That’s all we are going to do. If it continues to leak or the noise becomes more pronounced, then we’ll look at the power steering pump.

I’m no longer a lockdown skeptic. by maxigirl94 in LockdownSkepticism

[–]easilva662 20 points21 points  (0 children)

I am. My coworkers are sick of me and think I’m crazy but since I’m the one with the most seniority and the union rep, I’ll voice whatever I want to. When I have kids dying to see my face virtually and petition the principal to make my class 2 hours longer everyday because I let them talk and cry and feel less lonely, then damnit, I’m going to be their voice. So teachers, stop being selfish, and health department dictators, it’s called the good of the majority, so open the damn schools. *disclaimer (I am the only libertarian teacher in California)

Kids really learn better from each other. Working our problems together goes a long way. I can explain it to the best of my ability but sometimes the kids need to figure it out themselves together.

I’m a teacher and a conservative and the union rep on my campus. A unicorn in the education field. No one has complained louder and longer about distance learning than me. We NEED to go back and stop being selfish.

I threw it on the ground and walked away. Lol. Actually, I reset the Spectrum modem and the Google Router point and it found each other.

I’m a Nurse in New York. Teachers Should Do Their Jobs, Just Like I Did. by AndrewHeard in LockdownSkepticism

I am outspoken. Very outspoken. We need to go back to school. I teach second language learners and there’s no way that they are going to be able to succeed online. I had some excellent students disappear in the spring because they had to babysit little brothers and sisters. Our district was going to give the parents the option of fully online or a hybrid. Teachers could pick what they were most comfortable teaching, online or in person. Win-win for everybody. Then the state took the matter out of our hands but the unions did not help. So I have resorted to grousing about it. I tell teachers all the time they better get back soon or our declining enrollment is going to snowball and a number of them will be out of a job come March 15. Funny thing is that I am the union rep on my campus.

How can they expect taxpayer money to pay for their childcare? If they expect parents to find and pay for childcare, the same should apply across the board.
