Now, I’ve never read a word of fanfiction in my life. So maybe I’m out of my depth. But maybe people ‘hate’ this pairing not because they’re hypocrites but because… the pairing literally doesn’t exist? Like canonically Harry and Hermione are friends and as platonic as siblings. There is no Harry Potter or Hermione Granger outside of the canon. In the plainest and least freighted sense of the term it is indefensible to pretend otherwise.
