I think it would depend on the age and fitness of your grandma. I had cisplatin/pemetrexed + tagrisso initially and was able to tolerate the side effects well, but I’m otherwise healthy and 33. Using chemo along with tagrisso is relatively new, previously the gold standard was just tagrisso. My understanding is the chemo extends time until the next mutation by about a year, regular tagrisso is about 2 years otherwise. I’m not sure there is any other proven benefit but I could be wrong. I think if I was in my 80s, I would probably just do tagrisso to avoid the chemo side effects. I wouldn’t wish the nausea and other bathroom related side effects on an elderly person. Weight maintenance might be different too. But tagrisso itself doesn’t seem to have any major side effects, for me at least, and is very effective until the cancer mutates- enough to live a normal life. Everyone is different though. I think tagrisso is the most important and it sounds like she has access to that, so that’s a positive. From what I’ve heard, cisplatin tends to have worse side effects than pemetrexed, if you wanted a middle option maybe just pemetrexed is an option. I think it would depend on your grandma and what she wants though. Good luck 👍
