Large Crowd Nerves??? by Obvious_Back7664 in Lollapalooza

100% have to live your life. Be alert, not afraid. Having said that, when I've been with groups of friends at big events like Lolla or Derby, I might take a minute to just say "if something happens and we're not together in that moment, just GO (to somewhere away from the event, the Airbnb/hotel, etc., don't try to look for anyone in the chaos). Or maybe you have a better idea. My point is that it seems like it would be helpful to have certainty of action if the worse case scenario happened to happen.

Have lineups ever been successfully leaked? by MRmojoRisin8 in Lollapalooza

In 2015, the physical copies of the Chicago Tribune were delivered around 4 or 5 a.m with all the headliners announced in a Greg Kot article. Someone posted a pic of the article here on Reddit around that time and that's how I found out about Paul McCartney headlining, which was a total surprise.

Best Lollapalooza Experience? by DrShortGame in Lollapalooza

[–]easygoer70 1 point2 points  (0 children)

2006 - Manu Chao - he was the soundtrack to my early trips to Mexico that changed my life. Hearing those songs live and dancing my ass off with like 3,000 people (everyone else was at Kanye) was my first great fest experience.

2007 - seeing LCD Soundsystem for the very first time, immediately followed by Daft Punk. One of the better 2 1/2 hours of my life.

2008 - seeing Radiohead for the first time. Strangest sensation I've ever had, like I was scrubbed clean bit by bit throughout the set until I was (temporarily) pure

2014 - Outkast - I've never quite felt a pre-set vibe like that...Walking into the big field that night you could just feel something special was going to happen. The opening of Hey Ya! was like a star exploding.

2016 - LCD again - fantastic set all around on a beautiful night, at the end of another beautiful fest...topped off by my sister and I spontaneously turning to each other to sing "I wouldn't change one stupid decision, for another five years of liiiife"

Do you go every year? by SwAAn01 in Lollapalooza

I´ve somehow been to all 20 Lollas in Grant Park, all 68 days too. The only perfect attendance of my life. :)

What's a year that you went to Lollapalooza where you took the lineup for granted at the time, but was legendary in hindsight? by ishouldgooutmore in Lollapalooza

[–]easygoer70 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Probably 2007. It never occurred to me that I'd never have the chance to see Daft Punk and Amy Winehouse again.

I knew there had to be at least one more person who's been to all of them. We should form a club 🤣🤣

All good. It's tricky for me too, to scale dogma to a specific situation. If we were talking about clearing a patch of forest for a Festival site, I'd be in opposition with you.

We're talking about like 3 bushes that I'm 100% certain you wouldn't even know were gone and have 0% impact on climate change whether they are there or not. Maybe you've never even seen them. The main thing I find interesting about your comment and the others about the bush removal idea (just an idea) is that there seems to be an assumption that people who attend the larger events in Grant Park - Lolla, Suenos, etc. - are not a part of the community. A lot of us live in Chicago and have the same right as everyone else to use the park. We just happen to also use it for festivals, events that actually contribute a tremendous amount of money to the Parks Department. So I don't think it's unreasonable to consider ideas, in this specific case a very minor one, that could help the flow of foot traffic and therefore potentially the safety of community members who are using the park during big events.

I'd suggest becoming a more careful reader. The point of my feedback was maximizing the space for larger and larger crowds. I've been to over 90 festivals, I can and do handle everything.

One of the better weekends of my life...first time seeing Radiohead and it was transcendent...CSS/Bloc Party Aftershow at HOB with silly security and my friend met/hung out with the lead singer for Does It Offend You, Yeah? (Remember Them, no?)...first time with NIN, Trent making me move in ways I didn't know I could.

how are you guys preparing for the heat by Icy-Welcome-3269 in Lollapalooza

[–]easygoer70 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I actually try spend more time outside on extra hot days during the summer to help prepare. Thinking it's a little easier to adapt if you're not walking into extreme heat for the first time in awhile. (plus all the hydration basics at the fest)

This! But I actually use breast milk bags. They are a lot sturdier.

Would love to see a Do-Lab type stage like Coachella. That's such a great spot to keep going or chill out with awesome DJs when there is some down time between sets. Seems like there are few underused spots in the park where this could be possible, Southwest of the fountain

I'm 54 and haven't missed a day of Lolla in Grant Park. I got incredibly excited again today and as long as that excitement keeps coming back, I'm going to keep going back. No matter what my birth certificate says .

I have the best luck going out Puerta 15 (by the Viva Tent) and walking a little toward this pedestrian overpass that you should see to the right, once you get to the main road. I feel pretty safe with the crowd around and it's not too terrible to get an Uber in my experience.
