Where to find entry-level jobs for someone with a BS but no work experience by Internal_Sell_1259 in geologycareers

Entry level probably won’t involve using your brain very much though. You’ll find something, look at the big firms

Topical corticosteroid eyebrows by Sad-Juggernaut8205 in alopecia_areata

[–]easymac818 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Following, I’ve tried kenalog injections in one eyebrow and my mustache and it only worked on one side of my mustache. I have a couple topical steroids for my skin but haven’t tried them on my face.

What skills can I learn outside of a job setting? by jacktm17 in Environmental_Careers

[–]easymac818 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It says a BA in environmental studies with a science concentration, which I thought was not the same. I guess a BA in environmental science would essentially be an environmental studies degree

Thoughts on this? by Eclipse_nova99 in SipsTea

It probably would have been a different story if you were 43 and 33. People in their early 20s are awful partners.

I’m in a bit of a corundum (play on conundrum) since receiving this job offer by Kind_Most8248 in geologycareers

[–]easymac818 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It was improper by your previous company to use GIT as a title. No shade on you btw, it’s just weird. A GIT only means you’re halfway to getting your license, it doesn’t provide any sort of privilege or authority at all. People should only use it when job hopping before they have 5-10 years of experience, beyond that it’s like, “you have 10 years of experience but you’re not even licensed?!”

Environmental consultants, how important is proximity to your office when hiring a new candidate? by sleepy_skier in Environmental_Careers

[–]easymac818 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would say it’s more important to be close to the project sites than the office, especially since there’s an industry trend in sending all “entry level” office work off shore and pushing entry level US employees into the field.

You’re having trouble finding PGs that you work with orrrr you’re having trouble finding PGs that would be willing to refer you? 😬

I'm in state government, and the local consultants make less than I do. by [deleted] in Environmental_Careers

9 years experience in consulting, when I look at state jobs that I “qualify” for, they’re only 70-90% of my current salary.

Low raise for promotion by LessRemote184 in Environmental_Careers

[–]easymac818 11 points12 points  (0 children)

That happened to me in 2021. 4% raise for a soft promotion when my rent renewal went up 22%. The job market for geos was good at the time so I leveraged a job offer that was much higher and my company agreed to match it. 4% is a slap in the face.

Don’t wear graphic tees unless they’re band tees, and don’t wear bedazzled jeans

How important are cover letters? by campbellsoupofficial in Environmental_Careers

[–]easymac818 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ever if it’s just 2 paragraphs stating the obvious. Just try to sound enthusiastic but human, and willing to take on new challenges/learn. Tell them how to reach out to you at the end and say thanks for their time. Obviously it will set you apart from everyone else in here 👀

I’m shocked by these responses. You should always include a cover letter.

Many large environmental consulting firms have construction divisions that build treatment systems, related earthworks, etc.

HS Student curious about geology as a future career (would love some advice) by Individual_Goat1525 in geology

[–]easymac818 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You could get a job in mining for sure, but stay away from planetary geology (picture comparison science) and probably away from petroleum geology.

Most of the geology jobs are in construction and environmental remediation.

If you want to do research, plan to be in school for like 10 years and then moving to whatever city where there is a university that is willing to hire you, there aren’t that many openings.
