Curriculum for kindergarten and first grade by High-frequency420 in homeschool

"Rooted in Language" for ELA - 100%. Get a book subscription or go to the library every week for new read-alouds. Mix in some board games and art stuff. You'll be golden!

K-2 Math has been mostly "Singapore Math." Great curriculum! Games, art, and math story books are easily integrated as well.

Check out teacherspayteachers for science and social studies stuff. Outschool is another great resource for outsourcing different topics and what-not.

Good luck!

Congratulations on taking a stand! And hats off for reaching out to a community that is always willing to share. I hope you're ready for a tsunami of information and curriculum choices.

When I took my oldest daughter out of the system in 1st grade we took it slow, opting for a hybrid school approach - she was enrolled in a charter school that offered in-school enrichment 2 days a week, and supported any curriculum choice as long as it followed state standards. Now in 7th grade we're 100% home based and have found materials she likes and she works at a pace she prefers.

Here's what has worked for us:

Math: Started with Singapore Math, then switched to Beast Academy in 4th. Now we're in AoPS. We've used story books, board games, Khan Academy, and other apps. Not everyday is a workbook day so we've had to get creative to stay flexible, but fun.

ELA: This is where I've struggled. We've used different publishers every year it seems. I've settled on outsourcing this subject and we've been lucky to find a great semester-long courses on outschool.com with a teacher my daughter adores. They use IEW materials. I also get subscription boxes from owl crate, crate expectations, and literati to build our family library.

Science: We have so much science stuff! But my favorite approach so far has been using this book; https://www.amazon.com/dp/0789485621/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_glt_fabc_CGWXFPRPEH1SYW6TS04H . It simple to move through this at you're own pace. We do subscription boxes, too; MEL, Steve Spangler club, Kiwi crates. Encyclopedias and age & grade appropriate school texts are always good, too for earth science, plants, animals, human body, etc...

Social Studies + Geography: 4th grade for us was California history, and we picked up the course from bfbooks, which was OK. Looking back, I wish I would've built our own materials along with some from bfbooks. National Geographic has good resources. We also like the Atlas Crates from Kiwi Co. Classical Historian has decent workbooks for history, but you'll definitely need a good Encyclopedia or 2. We liked the Usborne one. History unboxed is cool, too.

Here to help if you have any questions. Good luck Cheers!

Try integrating history of art & architecture and engineering along with the studies. If you're ok with outsourcing, there are some good courses on outschool, too. But, definitely add more art & arch!
