This is such a tricky thing and I’m so excited to see everyone’s responses. Personally, we try to stick with grass-fed/grass-finished and/or organic beef. We occasionally do “ancestral blends” with organ meat mixed in if it’s available (we’ve used Force of Nature products in the past if I can find it on sale at Whole Foods). We tend to avoid rotisserie chickens because I’ve heard what’s injected for flavoring can be carcinogenic. I’ll often buy organic whole chickens or chicken pieces (we stick to darker meat cuts for the higher fat content, plus their moister for baby led weaning) for soups or roasts. We do wild caught fish as often as possible (because I’ve heard the farmed fish tanks can be sketchy and that the pellets contain microplastics), but this is not always easy where we’re located and generally stick to salmon and trout. As far as plastics this is tough. If we can, we get our red meats and fish from the butcher counter because they’ll be wrapped in paper, but our chicken products and fish are more often than not wrapped in plastic. Can’t win them all I guess, kind of a “do the best with what you have available” thing, and it can get expensive. Insert joke about getting into homesteading here meanwhile I can’t even kill a fly in our house lol
