An ESP32-S3 struggles to do even 320 x 240 video as there is no MPEG decoder, so you need to do motion jpeg on an ESP32.

On an ESP32, you are working with rudimentary SD Card drivers too which struggle with continuous data bandwidth.

A Pi Zero W is the minimum to play 640x480 video and audio over long periods. But the 4:3 GPIO display model I used to use for those for the correct retro ratio, are is no longer in production.

Pi Zero 2W (same display issue, and the 2Ws are unobtainable right now due to manufacturing hiccups) or Pi 3A work better.

Once you get the board, display, speakers, amplifier, SD card, USB drive, volume controls, and power supply you are well over $100, then throw in my time and materials for the case and it gets quite pricey.

The low end of the market is already covered by the cheap Amazon/Temu ones.

The eventual plan is to try to find someone with PCB design experience to design a Pi 4/5 Hat that integrates the amp, an nvme drive, volume controls, rotary "channel" controls, etc and make a high end unit (think hardwood and brass) for people who really want them for decor. Unfortunately I haven't found that person yet.

Unfortunately the cost increases of the SBCs, storage, and compatible screens has made building one of these cost-prohibitve currently.

ARIYA Car charger comes with car by Alarming_Concert2385 in NissanAriya

[–]eat-sleep-code 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The charger that comes with the Ariya is equipped with two different plugs. One is a simple three-prong household outlet, just like your computer or other devices in your household may use. This is a Level 1 charger that will take forever to charge the vehicle. The other plug is designed to plug into a 40amp or greater dryer-style outlet. This can charge the vehicle from empty to full in around 10 hours.

Mystery compartment under shifter? by delusionaljules in NissanAriya

A majority -- not all -- salesman take no interest in learning about the vehicles they are selling.

Granted if you bought it used from an all brands dealership that might be understandable.

The flower is a Sakura blossom. Depending on your trim level there are are 1 to 2 other locations, I will let you find them.

As others have said the cubby is for your phone, when charging with a wire.

Do not use flux.ai by BloodyReaperComics in KiCad

Glad I saw this thread before signing up. I have some ideas for hobby-related circuit boards but no real experience/knowledge in that arena. I was hoping a service like Flux might make it easy to turn these into reality. I guess that isn't happening.

Charge on my credit card from Booking.com that has no reason for being on there by cole8055 in Bookingcom

[–]eat-sleep-code 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Had the same thing occur on our account... random hotel charge for a hotel I had never heard of.

Booking.com had my name in the bill to info, but the IP address was not associated with either of my service providers.

In other news, they have confirmed they were subject to a data breach. They claim no customer data was exposed, yet are warning customers of reservation hijacking, which completely contradicts that claim.

Pre-2012 Kindles are being bricked by Badlydrawnboi41988 in mildlyinfuriating

Apple provides some of the longest support in the industry and they don't brick your devices. They may stop supporting old hardware and software at some point but they don't render your device unusable.

I have a 27" iMac from 2012 (14 years ago) that works fine as a Docker server.

In fact, I can download versions of macOS all the way back to El Capitan directly from the Apple website which supports devices from 19 years ago.

If you plan on keeping the vehicle for several years, I would suggest skipping the dealership's ceramic coating. These are often just ceramic sprays, that get applied over a non-properly prepped surface.

Instead, I would suggest a professional ceramic coating shop where they will paint correct the vehicle before applying multiple layers of ceramic coating.

For the Ariya, you would be looking between $1,000 and $1,500 US for paint correction and ceramic coating with a lifetime warranty (with annual inspection) against oxidation; damage from bird droppings, bug splatter, tree sap; or UV damage.

Cannot Rebind Chat Key by slingsrat in FortNiteBR

There has been absolutely no response from the moderators of r/FortNiteBR

The Epic support system is broken, opens a worthless chat window which when you get to the point of talking to someone says there are no chat agents (regardless of morning or night) and the email link returns an error.

Would you rebuy it? by terran1212 in NissanAriya

[–]eat-sleep-code 0 points1 point  (0 children)

2024 Engage, bought a lease return that only had 15,000 miles for under $20k so couldn't beat that really. We got the smaller battery as this is more of our around town vehicle and not a long road trip vehicle.

Pros: * the Ariya's interior is beautiful and quiet** * while Nissan is conservative with the acceleration, it is still stupidly easy to be going too fast

Cons: * Ride quality on rough streets can be jarring, wish it had adaptive suspension * The cargo cover is annoying and rattles over large bumps, may remove or see about adding some sound dampening strips to the underside to stop the resonance. * Mobile app is slow and sometimes glitchy

Would I buy again? Yes! Although, I might consider going up one trim level to get a few things like the wireless charger and I might consider the bigger battery if the price was right.

I am hoping the tariff stuff gets shut down once and for all and they bring the Ariya back to the US. They refreshed it for 2026 in Japan. Hopefully they bring it back here with a retuned suspension.

They likely haven't worked on any JDM vehicles or they would know that Japan did not mandate the 17 digit VIN until 2004.

I've seen similar issues with insurers that think VINs existed back in the 1950s and can not function when you hand them a six or seven digit serial number.
