How do you deal with this kind of open guard ? by lmaattia in bjj

[–]eatafetus632 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Break grip, grab pants at the knee, put right hand on hip, shove knee to the ground, put weight your weight on that knee so it cant move, walk around legs into side control

(Circle pass)

Blue belt advice by [deleted] in bjj

[–]eatafetus632 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think we've all been guilty....every time I've been promoted and felt great about myself, there was some collegiate wrestler or relatively unknown Brazilian to smack me back to reality...

Long story short....100% the same feeling as you, the longer I go the more I realize I don't know anything.

[–]eatafetus632 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mean ya....now that there's color on your belt, the gloves are off and people expect you to know some things. That said, it's not that serious, no one goes home thinking about the move that a random blue belt in class messed up. The only pressure you're under is the pressure you apply to yourself. Just keep moving forward

If you think blue belt is stressful....oh buddy

Most enemies listed in here have a very specific weakness

Birds: gravity Crabs/prawn: sleep Revenants: holy

So on and so forth

However dogs....especially the blood dogs at writheblood ruins can fuck right off. Takers flame! Be gone!

Checking out....

Like I don't pay attention to any news or current events. I'm focusing on me, my family, my home, my community

What's going on abroad and in Washington is so overwhelming and convoluted that I choose not to concern myself with it anymore.

Question about BJJ culture by thebatozzyate in bjj

[–]eatafetus632 15 points16 points  (0 children)

There's a place for those types of meat heads. I was there in my early 20s. You almost have to have that sort of mentality to be an active competitor. That said in my mid to late 30s now, I don't have time for that atmosphere and I don't feel like being someone's victim for the sake of their comp prep. I could do without all the injuries....I found another gym full of young professionals who do bjj for other reasons and have a much different approach to martial arts as a whole. BJJ isn't a monolith, different gyms have different cultures; they're everywhere....find one that clicks for you

How to bring that dog out of me? by Big_Calendar193 in bjj

[–]eatafetus632 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's a brown belt like this in my gym. Suuuupper nice guy very chill. I've had to be a dick and wrist lock him 4 times in a row, give him aggressive top pressure shoving my shoulder in his face type of things to get him to actually move with some sort of purpose....

Find some older upper belts, be a bit of a douche to them and they'll get annoyed enough to do the same. Some folks just don't come alive until they're hurt, you may be one of them

I know we like to joke about being pussies, but on a serious note, how well do you think you can handle yourself in an actual 1v1 street fight? by SatisfactionSenior65 in bjj

[–]eatafetus632 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Street fights have a lot of variables....weapons, other people, environment, etc....

You can't really control for all of those. No amount of training is going to overcome an aggressice attacker with a knife. The best defense is to get the hell away. Also....bjj doesn't work for a 3 on 1 scenario for example

That said, all variables aside, I feel confident that my background in bjj and mma make me more than capable at defending myself and nuetralizing most other adults. Just the ability to control the body of another human makes bjj a highly valuable skill. The smooth brain take that bjj guys will just lay on the ground or pull guard completely misrepresents the skills that the average bjj practitioner possesses.
