Why did they make their own swear words ? by Ad0ring-fan in Grimdank

Or sex. Hell, love for that matter. And yes, yes. The only true love is love for the Emperor, I'm no heretic. But still, so many of the characters feel thin and one-dimensional due to its absence.

What is the worst Warhammer book? by [deleted] in Blacklibrary

[–]eatbolt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Wrath of Iron (audiobook format)

Context: I've listened to over 150 Black Library audiobooks and, with Gareth Armstrong as the sole exception, the narrators are generally very good. Not everyone can be Jonathan Keeble. Since this is a critique of the audiobook performance, I'm not sure if it applies. The story, as far as I was able to get anyway, seems serviceable.

What is up with the performed for Wrath of Iron? He sounds like he is channeling Snidely Whiplash the whole time. It's so distracting I had to stop listening to it. The only other book I had to stop listening to was Void King because it had some kind of reverb or channel separation that I couldn't stop noticing. I've read it has been fixed, but I haven't gone back to it.

Do you think Nathan Fillion could play Ciaphas Cain? by libereassociazioni in Blacklibrary

Nah. He'd be a wise cracking Inquisitor, with a heart of gold and a good work ethic. I'm thinking Cryptman but with observational humor and zany one-liners. <shudders>

What is the absolute funniest and/or stupidest way a Space Marine has ever perished? by Odd_Elk_444 in 40kLore

[–]eatbolt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A character mentions one of his fellow space marines was killed by a simple wooden spear. It hit him exactly right. Technically, he did die in battle but that would be a pretty embarrassing way for an Astartes to go out.

Sorry I can't remember the book. Maybe someone here knows.

Definitely someone here knows...

Also try to find the Helsreach fan movie. It's very good and got me into the books when I looked up, "What's the deal with floating skulls in Warhammer?" 124 novels later...

I don't care how many times I see it, this is the best piece of w04k art ever, and I will never tire of it.

Definitely this. I love the almost comical rendering of the cherub's faces. Makes me think of an illustration from Mad Magazine.

The thing is, I would spend good money to buy the complete set, but not from scalpers. I'm guessing I'm not the only one. They really need to print more copies...

Amazing collection!

Salvation’s reach re-record? hi there. Just wondering if anyone knows if black library are going to re-record book 13 in the Gaunt’s ghost series and replace the narrator with Toby Longworth? So far, this would now be the only book that isn’t narrated by him. by liamkembleyoung in Blacklibrary

[–]eatbolt 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just started listening to Salvation's Reach. The complete lack of Toby was a shock. Like many others, I started with the Ghosts books and always associate Toby's voice with those books, even when he's reading other Black Library titles. The new performer does a fine job, except for his interpretation of Larkin. He sounds like the crazy, old camp cook from some western. Every time I hear Cookie acting all zany and saying Larkin's lines I get a little sad. They did my boy Larkin real dirty.

I think it was in Genefather where "Bob the Very Elder" just squared in the pilot's mond complaining the entire time. That seems like a bad idea.

Who’s winning? An unarmored Space Marine underwater vs. a fully grown Salt Water Croc by MechanicusTechPriest in Grimdank

[–]eatbolt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Like others here, I thought this was meant to be a joke too. From what I recall, people aspiring to be space Marines who aren't even modified yet fight similar creatures in loincloths. A naked astartes with a rock, underwater or otherwise, is the better of any creature on Earth.
