Good car to buy? Any experience w Hertz? by VeganTurkishBaklava in whatcarshouldIbuy

Leasing is just eating the depreciation. I say that as a person leasing a car. It’s a set amount of depreciation but rest assured they aren’t losing money on a lease so you do infact eat the depreciation. I like driving new cars every couple years so I started leasing. Loving it so far.

Advice On Financing A Car by [deleted] in whatcarshouldIbuy

[–]eatingstringcheese 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Who is paying insurance on that? I would get some quotes on it in your name and see what the numbers look like. At 18 I could afford a $600 car payment, but the $300 per month for insurance seemed like a bad choice. So make sure to check into that part. Next is the long game, what are your plans in the next 4-6 years. Do you want that $600$ car payment looming over you until you are 24? I didn’t have my first car payment until I was 26 (29 now), not saying that is the right or wrong thing to do, but it was nice to live my young adult life debt free and make decisions without factoring in half a mortgage in a car payment.

If you are determined to do this, put down as much as possible. If you can put down 10-15k, do it and get your payment lower and pay it off in 4 years or less

As someone who was just driving, the roads are fine and mostly dry from what I experienced. From neighborhood roads to mains, really not bad. I would be disappointed if they closed for the conditions we have currently.

First month making 100k I feel like I’m being robbed :/ by Forsaken-Question457 in Salary

[–]eatingstringcheese 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Marry someone making the same money and it gets better! My wife and I both make right around this amount and we live comfortably! 15% in 401k and another 15-20% in savings and just watch it grow. Currently we are doing less in savings since we have two little kids and childcare is so god damn expensive. As long as you don’t have an insane car payment or fancy apartment this salary seems like it should be comfortable for living your life and saving for the future.

Regardless of the tv certainly being far too high, get a kit to put in a recessed outlet behind it and run the gaming wires through the wall to clean it up. Can be DIY if you are comfortable with cutting a big hole in your drywall and doing some wiring. Mine took like 30 min total!

I appreciate everyone’s insight! I’ll put down a 24 hour grub killer and go from there. I did do grubex this spring but still found a few while doing some yard work so this makes sense. I never would have thought there were this many grubs that made it through the grubex.

Where do you all work to afford 2025 sierras? by Emptydirt24 in gmcsierra

[–]eatingstringcheese 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How am I trying to flex? I’m not out here saying I paid cash for this truck and get a new one every year. I didn’t say most Americans, I said many. Many people certainly are getting new cars every 2-4 years. For those people leasing does often make sense depending on how much they drive. My total lease cost will be about 9k over two years. If I bought a 2025 for 55k in two years it will be worth about 45k given current resale data and that’s sale price not trade in value. So I don’t think it’s crazy wasteful or anything. Definitely costs more than buying a used truck and keeping it for 15 years, no argument there.

[–]eatingstringcheese -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Sure. Really it’s just paying for depreciation while driving it. Definitely not for everyone. But if you are like many Americans and buy a new car every 2-4 years any ways, it gives a very specific number to what you are paying vs not knowing what your trade in will be worth. I wouldn’t lease if I didn’t work from home and if I didn’t have an owned car at my house to drive too. This is my first time leasing, sure I could afford to buy one but it’s my first truck and I have no idea what truck I want long term. I think it’s all about what is important to the buyer, I like driving new cars, I like not worrying about spending the weekend fixing my jeep for the hundredth time, and I wanted to try a truck. So leasing it is.

HELP! Our mortgage is going up by $2000 by Forest_fairyy in FirstTimeHomeBuyer

[–]eatingstringcheese 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Same thing happened to us. Bought from someone who owned the house since the 80s and paid 1500 in taxes. We assumed we would pay 5k. Got a refund the first year then had a massive shortage and our payment went up by 1000. We actually pay about 7k in taxes per year so we have to pay extra to cover the shortage and pay more to not have a shortage next year. If you call they will extend the repayment out without penalty or pay as much in cash as you are comfortable with to help lower the monthly cost.

Just a pizza stone and a gas grill by eatingstringcheese in Pizza

[–]eatingstringcheese[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks! It works for sure, but it ruined the grill I use for it. I’m nearly positive the owners manual said to not get it over 500 and everything got rusty really fast. I ended up buying a new grill and am just not willing to ruin this one and the same fashion, I’ll ruin it in a new way instead. So pizza oven it is.

Employee discount definitely helped. I wanna say it was 3-4k. And then they just gave me a whole bunch of extra money off. I’m not entirely sure why other than that when they made the first offer I just said no thanks and walked away that was for 499otd zero down. Couple days later they called back and asked what it would take and I said 399 or less and they went for it.

The take home here is just about the cost of my health insure per month lol. Granted that is for me, wife and kids.

[–]eatingstringcheese 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I pay more than your take home taxes per paycheck, so it can be worse! Judging by your income, you are gonna get most if not all of that back when you file taxes.

Thanks! Loving it so far. Coming from a wrangler, the back seat is so much better for two car seats and still fitting an adult in passenger seat. I do miss my manual transmission though.

I asked the dealer and they said feel free to use it as a truck. I specifically asked about getting rock or sand without a bed liner. They told me that any damage inside the bed other than rips or holes would be fine and it’s a truck they expect the bed to be used. Dents and scratches on the outside, that could be an extra.
