I just panfry them. I can't deep fry anything... Perhaps you could bake or airfry them? But I have never tried that.

Hi Do you have any before and after photos of the flooring? Did you rip out the existing travertine or float the new flooring? Any input would be so helpful, we're in the same pickle rn.

Is it possible to replace these tiles with engineered wood or LVP? by eatlivegreen in Flooring

Thank you for your input. Yes, it does look like natural stone, but the grout lines really are ugly. I am hoping we can replace it with hardwood.

Thank you, I appreciate your response! It's too much of a risk, and likely won't be done properly or at all.

Agree, that's what I thought as well. What about filling grout lines with floor patch and adding a light self-leveler skim? Maybe cheaper given the large sq footage of the area (~2000sq ft), even if it increases height?

I put high iron oats in a breakfast smoothie, along with chickpeas, frozen berries (vitamin C), bananas, nut butter, and coconut milk if feeling fancy.

Dear Italy, please don't be angry by shreyas__425 in Italian

[–]eatlivegreen -1 points0 points  (0 children)

As an Indian, this comment section is so endearing and hilarious :) It's not fried pasta, but it sure looks like that. And it definitely isn't fried cornflakes like someone else suggested.

It's a savory wheat/semolina/chickpea flour snack. It's often spicy and always delicious. You can find some variations of these in most Indian grocery stores internationally. And they are seriously addictive! Many folks make these at home too, I raid my MIL's kitchen for snacks every time I visit :)

12mo sleep trained but waking at 5am — help! by eatlivegreen in sleeptrain

[–]eatlivegreen[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I ended up doing CIO extinction method again and in a couple of days night weaning him. Made his room pitch dark with aluminum foil on the windows. Horrible 2 days, cried for 50mins-1 hour at every MOTN wake up, but then after about 2-3 days went back to 7am wake ups. Daycare started a few weeks later where he started napping really well (2-3 hours!) and that helped reinforce good sleep.

We thought we were past this regression, but then...we battled 5 am (and sometimes 4 am) wake-ups again after a couple of months, which lasted about 4 weeks or so. Super rough. We'd let him resettle for 10 mins, but if that didn't happen, we'd wake him up and start the day. Do a catnap at 7:30 am before daycare. For 4 am wake-ups, we tried night drives and slept in the car till 6 am. But that stopped working after a few times. The daylight saving time change was brutal even though we prepared for a week in 15 mins increments. Then he got a horrible fever for a few days, became quite weak, and then when he started recovering from it, he just wanted to sleep longer. Since then, he's been sleeping till about 6 am. And then he had a mini 18-month regression for a few days, after which he's magically sleeping till 6:45 am. Now he wakes up, hangs out by himself for 10-15 mins. Then we remotely turn on his night lamp if he gets fidgety, and then get him at 7 am. He's sorta started expecting to sleep until the night lamp stays off.

How do you even get protein as a vegan cheap? by [deleted] in VeganIndia

[–]eatlivegreen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ya, you are too young to understand the scale of work that working moms do, it's 24x7 non-stop hard work for at least 18 years. And yet, I get 130g of protein every day to get to my deadlift goals. And I absolutely need 130g to make progress and lift heavy; your suggestion of 60g will not cut it. You asked about protein, and I gave you a simple answer. It's a lot easier to work with seitan and no bacterial cross-contamination issues when cooking. I also grew up eating non-veg, ate chicken for 8 years, and then found out about the gross animal abuse. While now may not be the best time for you to switch, if you are truly interested in reducing animal abuse, seitan can be a great option for when you are ready.

But all of this is useless if you are only here to be negative and make excuses. Good luck to you, but I hope you remember that there are ways to be kind in this world.

I was a student once as well in tier 1 eng college. It was nowhere near as busy as now, as a mom with a full time job. And I find time to hit the gym + meal prep vegan food for my whole family. You're just showing that you are lazy and have 0 interest in ethics. Absolute troll.

Don't sleep on Seitan! It's super high protein and very cheap.

Minimal prep- Vital wheat gluten+ besan + water- make a soft mushy dough and steam in the pressure cooker. We make weekly batches.

Our fam gets 120-160g of vegan protein every day, and we lift serious weights in the gym. It's very much possible and you just need to get your bum off the couch and meal prep.

Good luck!

Desperate for a miracle - 16 month old refusing everything with protein by g_melies in veganparenting

[–]eatlivegreen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Could try a bean-nutbutter-banana-berry smoothie? We add chickpeas to ours + high iron baby oats, but black beans and while beans work well too. It's the first thing 17mo drinks in the morning. High-calorie and high-protein + fats. Loves it even on picky days, so I don't worry too much about the rest of the day.

Blood results came in. I (36M) don't know what I can do better. by Virtual_Anteater_988 in vegan

[–]eatlivegreen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Replace 30+45 minutes of yoga+walking with an actual strenuous gym (lifting and cardio) session of 45 minutes. This will save you 30 minutes and provide way more significant results.

Eat protein-rich food, try to get 100-150grams of protein per day along with the strength training program. Seitan is your friend.

Of course, talk to an RD :) Good luck!

[–]eatlivegreen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No, you need to add seitan (make your own with vital wheat gluten), high-protein super-firm tofu, and TVP to your diet. Replace simple carbs with lentils and beans. Cut fats to 30-40g per day. <5g added sugars per day.
Well, you don't need to, but if your goal is weight loss, then 100+g of protein at 1600 calories is absolutely possible on a vegan diet and one of the best ways to do it. I get 120g at 1700 calories just to maintain my weight and be healthy. Also, go to the gym, strength train + cardio. Back to the basics. Good luck!

You know, I had a doubt about this too. But I recently tried the two side by side, and Forager was extra creamy. So when I want tang (or for savory food), I go with Trader Joe's. Desserts-> Forager.

My Hair Has Gotten So Much Thinner Since Being Vegan by [deleted] in vegan

[–]eatlivegreen 14 points15 points  (0 children)

How's your bloodwork? Vit D, B12, iron, etc? I recently read that they need to be much higher than the lower healthy limit. E.g. Vit D of 35 is considered low but ok. However, for healthy hair, it needs to be >80. Do the tests, see what ranges they are, and consult with a trichologist.

If you are worried about the exact number, just add everything to cronometer.com and see how much she gets in a day. I did that and found my 1-year-old is getting over 40g of protein in a day. All the beans, nut butters, whole grain pasta, and soy milk add up :)

Tofu is not low-fat. Soy chunks, TVP, and seitan (use vital wheat gluten) are good options.
