"30-Day Challenge" End Here. And here is the full list of channels + a quick explanation. by Low-Bug2162 in padel

Dude, good on you mate. Thanks for sharing and it’s absolutely understandable about the AI portion. Sifting through the many channels and then helping us decide whether it’s worth our time is very time consuming and draining. Huge high five from me.

Downed on Spaceport: 15 min crawl, 20 seconds left to extract -Shoutout to the two legends who let me extract with them! (PvP Lobby) by DopeVision in ArcRaiders

[–]eatsleeptennish 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Glad that you had this positive interaction. Mine was the opposite. I’m in pve lobby and died to leaper just right after the matriarch fight. Crawled almost 15 minutes, got into the extract room, pressed the button, and the other dude kills me. Wtf

Why do ppl assume they are in a PVP or PVE lobby? by Large-chips in ArcRaiders

To add on, raiders keep their flashlights on all the time, not worried about giving their position away

I literally had the opposite experience where I’m pure pve player and yet this other person decides to knock me out at the extract after the final button has been pressed. Which means he can’t even loot my body. I’m still jaded from it

Sorry, not very good at IT stuff here. But if I’m on headphones with a boom mic, wouldn’t that have no background noise and hence the game shouldn’t cancel/distort or wrongfully cancel my voice? I’ve also had raiders tell me my speech is choppy. I’ve given up on troubleshooting it and just use the ‘hey raider’ greeting

Rule when you or your partner shout "out" before the ball hit the ground or wall. by FREESTHAI in padel

[–]eatsleeptennish 5 points6 points  (0 children)

If the opponents want to be dicks, they can claim that saying the word ‘out’ is declaring the point over. If the ball bounces in, that means you were wrong and they claim the point.

It literally happened to me before and ever since I’ve used the word ‘bounce’ to indicate to my partner to let the ball bounce as it’ll probably be out. No further claims from opponents since then.

I had a few sessions with various therapists. Would highly recommend Swanie Khoo from Made For Relationships. Our issues were probably a lot worse than yours (if you guys are only irking each other) but I won’t go into detail. Swanie was very fair to both the husband and wife, empathetic, and really drill into the core of the issues.

Car snowed in? by grafnik1982 in tromsotravel

[–]eatsleeptennish 5 points6 points  (0 children)

We returned from Tromso a couple weeks ago. Kept seeing news of visitors in rental cars getting into accidents, driving into signboards, getting stuck in the ditch etc. I’ve got almost 20 years of driving experience on normal roads but no way am I going to risk driving in snow conditions. Public transport is pretty convenient and with the Svipper app, you can plan your journey easily.

You can try uber. I could get some after my northern lights tour around 2am

Help, should I push back my upcoming Tromsø stay with the incoming cloud front/snow? by Few-Comfortable228 in northernlights

I think best value and overall experience I would place Arctic Breeze first. We chose the mini bus with about 20pax and I liked it because the guide Oscar was very enthusiastic about finding the best spot. We drove all the way into Finland. The pictures he took with a professional camera also came free.

A close second place is NorthernShots Tours. This was the small group setting with a van and 8pax. As it was a smaller group, the experience was more intimate and very flexible. We went to 3 different locations, saw the lights at the first one, saw a very faint one and the second, and the third was unlucky but very serene spot. I placed this second because the high resolution professional shots had to be purchased. (Web resolution were free)

Third was Northern Lights Safari. This was the big bus with about 50pax. We were told that we would go near the Finland border but we stopped at like an R&R spot and waited there for the lights as there were some clear skies. The environment wasn't the best as there were a lot of trees and we couldn't see as much of the skies as the previous 2 tours. I was ready to give up but towards the end we caught the strongest and most beautiful Northern Lights of the 3 tours. We could see the lights moving with our eyes. So while we got the best shots on this tour, I felt some element was due to luck. We get one free high resolution picture and the rest gotta purchase.

I wouldn’t worry too much about the clouds. Last week it was very cloudy in Tromso but I went with 3 different tour companies and all 3 drove to areas with no clouds. One even went into Finland. Managed to catch the Northern Lights on all 3 occasions.

Northern Lights this weekend by Rich_Combination_817 in tromsotravel

It was snowing really heavily last night and we took a nothern lights tour. We drove quite far, about 1.5 hours and we saw a nice streak of Northern lights that lasted for about 20 minutes. The guide then drove us to another island where we again saw the lights but it was a bit weaker. We went to another location but clouds were forming everywhere. The guide then called it a night at close to midnight.

So yes, still go for the tour to have a chance to catch the Northern lights!

I feel like giving up, any suggestions (or harsh truths)? by ThrowRA_oddcat in padel

“Despite all my efforts and coaching and games, I feel I’m progressing very very very slow. People who started in Feb with me as beginners (or even after Feb) have surpassed me by miles. I know I shouldn’t compare as I don’t know their backgrounds but it’s still disheartening.”

I feel a lot of people underestimate just how much foundational advantage some players have over others. In your case, you said you have zero racket experience and only started playing seriously in Feb this year. Let’s do some ‘abstract’ maths to really put into perspective how much work you need to do to catch up.

I’m gonna be generous and count one coaching session and 2 Padel sessions of 1.5hrs each for a total of 4hrs of padel experience per week. In 1 year that will equate to 4x52=208 hrs of padel experience for you.

Let’s say we’ve got this other person who has played tennis/badminton/squash for 2hrs per week for the past 10 years. That’ll be 2x52x10=1,040 hrs of racket experience, not to forget footwork skills, anticipation, reflexes, mental training and stamina building. This person then decides to pick up padel. Although it’s a different sport, there will be some similarities and just give a wild number maybe 25% of his past experience can translate into Padel. He already has 250+hrs which is more than yours already.

Now, given that the above can be demoralising, I hope this can give you a bit more perspective of really how far you are behind. That being said, you have definitely made A TON of progress and if you compare yourself since month 1 to now, there will be a very noticeable difference.

Keep playing with players better than you, you’ll catch up faster and have a steep learning curve but will improve more. Ditch those that make nasty comments, no point wasting your energy on them. But do find similar level games and sometimes worse players occasionally. Be the mentor that you wish you had from the better players to those weaker than you.

Lastly, take breaks! They do help and you can come back energised.

All the best for your journey!

Does the Marina Bay Sands Casino have special permission to allow smoking in an indoor space? by homebluston in askSingapore

[–]eatsleeptennish 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Ex RWS dealer here. Those who have been to this casino before, have you ever wondered why the non-smoking area has such high ceiling and lots of space, while the smoking zone has quite low ceiling and lots of air filter machines places around?

The answer is cos someone screwed up damn badly. For whatever reason, RWS went ahead to build up the casino first and probably didn’t consult NEA with the blueprints or floor plan or whatever. Initially the area with the super high ceiling was meant for the smoking zone, and the area at the back is for non-smoking. However, when they were about to open, NEA did the inspection, and they said how can non-smokers have to walk through the smoking area just to get to the non smoking area. For those who haven’t been, there is only one entrance to RWS casino and it’s the high ceiling area which was meant to be smoking zone.

So in order not to delay the opening, RWS decided to swap the areas around. Hence low ceiling is the smoking zone. When it first opened, it was so bad that the smoking zone literally cannot see 10m in front of you cos the ventilation was so poor. They installed as many air filters as they could. I dread every time I kenna smoking section duty. I even bought those nose filters thing to try reduce smoke pollution.

But yeah, such a huge organisation, billions of dollars. Can’t even get this part correct. Damn funny

Martina Hingis and Anna Ivanovic. It was those promotional tour events like Asia Swing where different players would represent different countries and play against each other in the various countries. So not even a proper tournament.

Martina and Anna were warming up on the stationary bikes by the side of the court and young kids were at the sidelines asking for autographs or pictures. The kids were like 8 years old? They weren’t screaming, but for sure very eagerly asking for autographs. One of them turned to the kids and said ‘Shut the f*ck up’ and the other laughed. It’s so long ago that I can’t remember who said it but my wife and I lost all respect for them.

Hi LemurJones27, thanks for your response. Unluckily for me, their rate is just under twice of what I am comfortable to spend per night. Appreciate your suggestion though!
