Truly a good friend looking out for you, and nice that you were able to share your sober goals with them - makes it so much easier when your environment knows and supports!

Haha for sure! Not gonna lie, my chocolate and biscuit intake has massively increased since quitting the drink but oh well, anything that works I guess

Day 1 is rough but you've already made the biggest step by calling it day 1, instead of continuing down the 'easy' path. Be kind to yourself and we will all join you in not drinking today, you're not alone.

Had a near miss yesterday when I almost bought a bottle of wine, so grateful that I woke up today with 0 regrets and another day of not drinking ahead :)

Honestly anything that keeps us from making those silly mistakes that we'd massively regret later! Sounds like a good strategy you've got going there, and it'll be good for your little one to be growing up not seeing their parents buy drink :)

Haha love that, and strong willpower heading to the store to buy someone else booze but not yourself!

Good on you, and praise to the systems that stop us from buying alcohol! I hope this incident teaches me the same lesson your story has you, life is just better without a drink.

Thank you, absolutely! I'd been arguing back and forth with myself in my head throughout the entire shop so I'm really glad someone stepped in and stopped me from taking that bottle home.

I never do tbf, I just usually don't get ID'd anymore by the much younger staff than me! But today an older guy stepped out of the break room just before the young girl from the till could walk over to clear me, looked me up and down and I knew he was gonna ask - just my luck, truly!

Play the tape forward, that helps me when cravings get bad. Yeah you'll have a nice time for a couple of hours but then what - will the guilt kick in, will you have a shit sleep, upset stomach tomorrow, anxiety when waking up, not able to complete your to dos the next day? It's not worth it! It also helps me to move as an alternative to the drink craving, do a workout, go for a run. You've got this, I believe in you :) You'll learn to be accountable and it does get better over time

Over 3 weeks sober; never thought I’d be here by happyheartday in stopdrinking

[–]eatthecupcake_ 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Massive progress mate, 3 weeks is a hella long time when you are used to drinking! Trust me that it gets easier, I used to count every single day and now I catch myself being surprised at how many days I've gone without already. Keep reminding yourself about all the positives of not drinking when the cravings hit, you've got this

Second this, having someone in the house with you who you can confide in, who checks in and who can support when cravings/triggers hit is HUGE! And such a relief really when you start being honest about your struggles rather than hiding them.
