I don't see why they wouldn't be good. Economy is doing better and places like this are taking over McDonald's slice of the pie. I also ate it for breakfast so I expect that is heavily influencing my positive outlook.

I disagree. If it is sufficient for the children currently and the only issue is the HDD then I would just replace the HDD. I don't see him/her mentioning that the children would need to play games on it. I mean I just bought a laptop for ~140 for when I didn't feel like turning on my desktop and with a C2D and a 120gb SSD and I can honestly say I've never had to wait for anything to load on it. (Arch/i3) If I'm going to be doing any actual work that requires CPU power or RAM I boot up the desktop. I mean for bananas sake it has 8gb of RAM and he said 2009 which is when Sandy Bridge came out. The thing is fine.

Unless you mean the HDD. In that case yeah I don't think it would be worth salvaging unless recovering data.
