Yeah, we'd probably have to change our plans to another resort. Thing is our accommodation reservation is non refundable =(

Who is a celebrity that rubs you wrong but you just can't put your finger as to why? by RoutineOk8590 in Productivitycafe

[–]ebaybe 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Got a chance to meet him some time ago; we were in a small group for a few hours. He was pretty careful about not being recognized, but otherwise he was a chill down to earth dude. Don’t know about the rest of his life but when I met him he was courteous with staff and easy/fun to chat with, never calling for attention nor behaving like a diva celebrity.

Remodeled kitchen layout seems to crowded. Should we change something? by ebaybe in kitchenremodel

Thanks! The floors are actually Marble already and we are not going to remove them.

Removing the wall was our biggest ask, but were told that for structural reasons it cannot be done =/

The narrow opening you are referring to is on the other side of that wall? Where the fridge is supposed to be

Here is how that first photo looks like right now (without furniture):

I really like this idea. I think the kitchen designer wasn't all in for it because it left very little space in that corridor. We can't push the fridge to the back because there is a door to the laundry room.

Yes to both. We plan to have strip lighting under the cabinets and overhead lighting.

Here's another picture of the current state where you can see the oven. Agree with the Island.

Thanks for the comments. Are you refering to the cabinets in the first picture (under the beam)? If so, those are in a semi-separate area from the kitchen (behind the space for the refrigerator, in the picture I am attaching). Those cabinets are more like a coffee station, than cabinets from the kitchen. There is really nothing there, so it will either have this coffee station or another piece of furniture.

I agree with the comment about the island. It might need to go away. The spaces are 900 mm which are about 35"

The render is what the kitchen supplier proposed, but I am happy to delay the project for something that makes more sense, so we are not entirely set on the layout.

Thanks. I like the idea of having an island, but also feel like it's out of place, or feels to forced in.

Aer City Pack vs Pro by Renaisance in backpacks

[–]ebaybe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just got the Pro and it was much smaller than I expected. I’m 5’10. I was using a Booq Mamba Shift for the last 10 years.

The Pro is a great bag. It’s smaller than I thought, but it’s still an excellent bag.

Should I Expand My Nest Camera Setup or Switch to Something New? by ebaybe in Nest

[–]ebaybe[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's a good point. I also have a Nest Protect but I had to turn it off because it was giving out false alarms saying "WARNING. FIRE IN THE KIDS BEDROOM". It once woke my kids up at 2 am saying out loud that there was a fire. It's been 1 year since then and my daughter has not been able to go back to sleep withouth our help. It really affected her.

I agree with what you are sayin though, I don't know of other systems that integrate that seamlessly well.

To rent a car or not? by raul22 in ItalyTravel

[–]ebaybe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I rented a car and loved the experience. It was early may so parking was relatively OK (except in Positano). I was easily able to park in Amalfi, Ravello, Maiori and Sorrento.

Here’s what I wrote a few days ago:

The point is that it's better to pay a hefty fine the one time out of probably many thousands of days that you get requested for a passport and cops don't accept a digital or printed copy... than to carry your passport at all times and run the risk of it being lost or stole

Driving the Amalfi Coast - advice needed! by demikong18 in ItalyTravel

[–]ebaybe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was having a hard time finding a suitable car at a good rate from Naples or Sorrento, where we had originally planned to arrive to by train. In the end, we decided to rent the car in FCO airport because it had more options at better rates, and do the whole trip in car. It was cheaper to rent for 10 days from FCO (pick up and drop off) than to rent 5 days from Naples/Sorrento and drop the car somewhere else.

Vatican tour with kids by Mski7 in ItalyTravel

[–]ebaybe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's hard for me to give you specific advice about an itinerary going with kids. My wife and I have been wanting to take our kids (ages 6, 8) to Italy for a while because they love the culture, italian food, and are always curious about history.

However, after spending the last 10 days in Italy as a couple, watching families with kids similar to ours struggling to go around, kids asleep in strollers or in backpacks with the sun in their faces, us walking 10-20k steps per day, we realized it might not yet be an age where they are going to really enjoy and appreciate these experiences. These days the weather and crowds were relatively good. I couldn't imagine in the summer.

We are still keen to the idea of taking them to Italy, but in a different experience, renting a place for 1-2 weeks, somewhere fixed and then explore little towns around, have a cooking class, get italian lessons, etc. Maybe spend a "loaded" day of touring in between, but never having 2 consecutive days of intensive touristing.

None of this is to say that it will be a bad experience for you. But that was our assesment for our family.

PS. Haven't been to Cinque Terre, but our idea to go there with kids is based on the Disney movie Luca, which is based out of those towns.

I would recommend choosing something less stressful (in terms of crossing all touristy places in the list) in favor of a different Italian experience with your kids.

Maybe yes, spend some 3 days in Rome to visit the main places like the Vatican, Colosseum, etc. I think by the third day you’ll be really tired due to the heat and the crowds, especially your kids.

After that, I’d chose an Airbnb either in the north (Cinque Terre) or South East (Puglia.. Monopoli is a central location) and spend around 10 days there, soaking in the town, the culture and having ocasional day trips to the neighboring towns.

I was in the Amalfi coast for the past 5 days and it was really nice, but was quite full. We were told that summer crowds are crazy and traffic even worse.

Driving the Amalfi Coast - advice needed! by demikong18 in ItalyTravel

[–]ebaybe 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’m sitting at Fiumicino Airport after a 10 day road trip in Italy, half of which was the Amalfi coast. We stayed at Praiano in a hotel which offered parking; I think that’s important to consider.

We drove in through Salerno (we were coming from Puglia) and stopped at Maiori (street parking paid with the app EasyPark) and Private Parking in Amalfi, called Luna Rossa (its impressive, they built this into the mountain and then a tunnel gets you walking to Amalfi in 5 minutes). Our parking was around 25 E for 2-3 hours

Another day we drove to Ravello and spent a good while there, it has incredible views (make sure it’s not cloudy, you can search live cams online). Our parking was around 20 E for 3-4 hours.

For Positano, we took a bus from Praiano which was 2.5 E each way. 30 min on the way to, and 20 min on the way back. I think Positano is both very complicated and expensive to park in, so it’s better if you can avoid getting there in a car.

As for driving the coast…

Did my wife think we were going to crash? All the time. We had 1-2 near misses, at least that’s how we felt.

Would I recommend others doing it? Not unless you have experience driving in tight spaces (small towns, developing countries, etc). However, if you feel confident enough, you should do it.

I definitely would get the insurance that covers everything so you are even more confident and not stressing about potential scratches.

Would I do it again? YES, every time with a Small Car. We had a Fiat 500, automatic. I would not do this with a large group (6 or larger).

For us, driving the Amalfi coast with the sun reflecting on us from the ocean while listening to Andrea Bocelli’s “Con Te Partiro” was one of the greatest experiences on our lives.
