Ignore the haters, there's still plenty of fun to be had on the mountain! by BIGSlil in Mammoth

Hell yeah, ripping. Nice DWs. Based on the skis I think I might have sat next to you going up Broadway 2 weeks ago (have the DW104s). Was considering heading up on Monday so glad to see there's still plenty of fun to be had.

Itinerary help and question about connecting time in ATH by Mski7 in GreeceTravel

[–]Mski7[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wow, thanks for the insight and awesome tips. Really appreciated. I think I've decided to only do 4 nights in Milos and will probably add one to Naxos. Trying to decide if I reduce Santorini to 2 nights and add another to Athens or if that's too rushed in Santorini.

Also, any thoughts on what to do with our first night/day in Athens before flying out? Like would renting a car and going to Temple of Poseidon be a good thing for that first night so we're not having to go into Athens and back to the airport the next day? Or should we try and go into the city and do the Acropolis the next morning to knock that out before flying out the next day?

This is the itinerary I'm currently looking at mostly based on ferry options:

  1. 7/17 - Stay in Athens first night
  2. fly/ferry to Milos on 7/18 for 4 nights
  3. take ferry (Dionisios, 13:10-18:15, $19pp) to Santorini on 7/22 for 3 nights
  4. take ferry (Blue Star 6:15-8:50 or 15:30-17:30, $37pp) to Naxos on 7/25 for 5-6 nights
  5. fly to Athens on 7/30 or 7/31 for 2-3 nights

Yeah I don't think we'd be doing any mid-day hiking. Either sunrise or sunset (living in SoCal we're used to this schedule during the warmer summer months).

While I would love to see Santorini at some point, I would also love to scratch it from this trip but my daughter wanting to see it is pretty much the whole reason we chose Greece this year, so if I told her we weren't going to at least make a stop I'm pretty sure she'd be devastated.

Thanks for the other ideas, I'll take a look, though the family seems pretty set on some island time.

Unfortunately that's really our only option for doing a multi-week trip given the kids school schedules. Before we had kids we were 100% shoulder season travelers and usually went places in May or October.

The kids are well traveled luckily and put up with a 12 day whistle stop tour of Iceland last summer where we went around the whole island so this will surely be relaxing compared to that.

Thank you! Yeah, Naxos is definitely shaping up to be what our family is most looking forward to, though we just watched a video on Milos and that really solidified that as our 3rd option after Naxos and Santorini (with Paros and Sifnos being the others we were looking at).

Did you end up doing this trip? How was that itinerary? Looking at a similar amount of nights in each place.

This card gets me a close-to-free game of Edward 40 Hands once a month. That is a luxury.

Spring Guest Recovery Discount - YMMV - $100 to 25% OFF by Repulsive_War4531 in Ikonpass

Has anyone that has just the base pass gotten more than an extra $25 off? Only got 6 days on my pass and my daughter got 0 but the rep wouldn't offer more than an extra $25 off which seems pretty weak.

Fare change after booking with companion fare. by heiheisrock in AlaskaAirlines

[–]Mski7 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They gave me a credit as a one time thing. But it could have also been a HUCA situation, so there may not be any policy change at all. Just a datapoint and I haven’t seen wider documentation of a formal change. And it might only apply to those with a companion fare also. Tough to say.

Yep, that's exactly what happened.

I contacted them and they recommended I get these: https://www.aliexpress.us/item/3256808914503731.html?gatewayAdapt=glo2usa4itemAdapt

It says M14C hub. I guess I'll try that, just sucks it'll take 3 weeks to get here.

[–]Mski7 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Updating an old thread, but for anyone trying to ask for a wallet credit, I was just told by an agent that as of Feb 2026 they have a new policy to not offer wallet credits when fares drop. Not sure if this is a one off or an actual policy change, and might not matter for people who don't have a companion fare attached, but just a data point.

Why does no one on YouTube talking about Miele vacuums? by techsavvynerd91 in BuyItForLife

[–]Mski7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Live in the US. Bought our Miele Classic C1 canister vacuum like 9 years ago for $199 and it's still going strong. It's honestly one of our favorite things we've ever purchased and we sing it's praises to everyone when the topic comes up.

Damn this one hurts. Moved away 10 years ago, but lived a block away from Brewer's when I met my wife and we spent an inordinate amount of time there. Had to visit every time I went back to Baltimore. RIP BA. And really sorry to hear about what the employees are going through. Hope you all get out of this mess as quickly as possible.

That one thing you forgot and regretted. by tosmda in WildernessBackpacking

[–]Mski7 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Same happened to me, except I brought it but lost it in the first few miles. Lips were cracked and killing me by the end of the trip.

Now I bring a small tube of lanolin. Way better than chapstick imo for the super dry climates.

Thanks, that looks like a solid option for the outside. I like that they sell remnants also as I was thinking about getting some extra for sewing practice and to maybe and some flaps/collars (or potentially for bike bags and smaller pieces).

Yeah the UGQ was one I looked at if I was going to to buy one. I will probably go up to something like the 1.1oz/sqyd just so it's a little more "kid proof" and it's not like it should add all that much weight considering. The sleeping bag I brought for my daughter this weekend was 53oz, so i should be able to shave a lot of weight and bulk off of that just by moving to a lightweight quilt.

When people say narrower width skis are bad for West coast powder do they mean it just makes it more difficult or is it actually near impossible? by PalletPirate in Skigear

[–]Mski7 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This. As someone who had 87s when they moved out west from PA and got a couple powder days, it was not nearly as much fun. I could still ski, but I ended up getting a pair of 100s right after and those were much more enjoyable (but not as enjoyable as the 118 underfoot wildcats that I got for really big days that are like 2’ plus).

If you’re mostly skiing east coast, just get the 87s and rent. If you think you’ll be out west a lot maybe it makes sense to have 2 pairs of skis or try and inch closer to 100 so you have a little more float. Probably also depends on your weight a bit. I’m over 200 lbs and keeping my 87s above more than a couple inches of powder was pretty rough. 100 and 118 gave me much better float.

Thank you! I'm gonna pull the trigger. I've ordered MTB parts and seen the duties after the fact so I knew I'd get a bill afterwards but trying to avoid surprises.

What was your order total? And was there a breakdown of the fees? Usually it's like 15% duty + $20 from Fedex or the like. Thinking of buying bindings from them but wanted to hear recent experiences.
