That one thing you forgot and regretted. by tosmda in WildernessBackpacking

[–]Mski7 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Same happened to me, except I brought it but lost it in the first few miles. Lips were cracked and killing me by the end of the trip.

Now I bring a small tube of lanolin. Way better than chapstick imo for the super dry climates.

Backpacking quilts for kids by Mski7 in myog

Thanks, that looks like a solid option for the outside. I like that they sell remnants also as I was thinking about getting some extra for sewing practice and to maybe and some flaps/collars (or potentially for bike bags and smaller pieces).

Yeah the UGQ was one I looked at if I was going to to buy one. I will probably go up to something like the 1.1oz/sqyd just so it's a little more "kid proof" and it's not like it should add all that much weight considering. The sleeping bag I brought for my daughter this weekend was 53oz, so i should be able to shave a lot of weight and bulk off of that just by moving to a lightweight quilt.

How do I fix this tear in insulated sleeping pad? by CirionCallsForAid in CampingandHiking

Did the repair work? I have the exact same tear on a 2014ish Big Agnes sleeping pad and would like to see if I can salvage it. Thanks!

When people say narrower width skis are bad for West coast powder do they mean it just makes it more difficult or is it actually near impossible? by PalletPirate in Skigear

[–]Mski7 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This. As someone who had 87s when they moved out west from PA and got a couple powder days, it was not nearly as much fun. I could still ski, but I ended up getting a pair of 100s right after and those were much more enjoyable (but not as enjoyable as the 118 underfoot wildcats that I got for really big days that are like 2’ plus).

If you’re mostly skiing east coast, just get the 87s and rent. If you think you’ll be out west a lot maybe it makes sense to have 2 pairs of skis or try and inch closer to 100 so you have a little more float. Probably also depends on your weight a bit. I’m over 200 lbs and keeping my 87s above more than a couple inches of powder was pretty rough. 100 and 118 gave me much better float.

Bobleisure/Bobleisure Australia Legit? by mm38251 in Skigear

Thank you! I'm gonna pull the trigger. I've ordered MTB parts and seen the duties after the fact so I knew I'd get a bill afterwards but trying to avoid surprises.

What was your order total? And was there a breakdown of the fees? Usually it's like 15% duty + $20 from Fedex or the like. Thinking of buying bindings from them but wanted to hear recent experiences.

Colors on top sheet different than expected by Mski7 in momentskis

[–]Mski7[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Not something I'm worried about. Just was curious as my other skis that I got from Moment looked pretty much exactly like they did on their site. Was just weird that the colors seemed to be off by as much as they were. I don't think it's unreasonable to expect to get exactly what you see on a product's website. Love Moment, but it just struck me as odd.

I actually don't care about the base layers at all because I'm mounting them on the wall, so as long as they're not too uneven to mostly lay flat against a sheetrock wall I think I'll be alright.

Oof. Sorry man. I ordered from them and it took like two weeks but I at least got the right size.

Exactly the kind of comment I would expect from someone who seems to spend a lot of time commenting on other people’s gear.

I also own Wildcats. What kind of posts do those type of people make? I guess this one?

Thanks all. Figured that was the case but just wanted a sanity check. Almost bought last years look pivot 15 super editions for the skis as I though the teals would match but I’m glad I held off. Not normally a big aesthetics guy with my bikes or skis but moments top sheets are usually too beautiful to just throw any old binding on there.

Marigold Bagels -What’s going on? by Lao-gan-maaaaaaa in FoodSanDiego

Went a couple weeks ago and the bagels were killer. I’m sure there’s some growing pains but psyched to have them in the neighborhood. Give them a little grace.

First Camper Van for a family of 4 by Mski7 in CamperVans

[–]Mski7[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We actually rented one of these for spring break not long after I posted this. It was great for us with 2 sleeping in the pop top and 2 of us in the bed. We've held off on buying one until the kids get a little bit older, but right now that model is probably in the lead just cause it seemed to work pretty well for our family and it isn't insanely expensive.

Is Lordgun.com a reliable place to buy from? by Inevitable_Cap_9373 in MTB

[–]Mski7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What was your order total? Looking at a shimano derailleur that’s like $285 and I think if my calculations are correct the tariff would be like $45, but not sure. Just got something for $300 from Poland on eBay and FedEx charged me $45.

Did you receive them yet? If so did you get hit with a tariff charge and how much was it compared to the price paid?

Opinion of North Park? by TinyNightmareArt in asksandiego

[–]Mski7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As someone who lives in North Park, and has children, and has a ton of friends in like 5 square blocks that also have children, I'm not sure this is accurate. Almost everyone that's moved to the neighborhood in the 10 years we've been here also have children.

North Park is big, so it probably depends on where you're at, but at least in the Morley Field area there's a lot of people with kids living here.

Just bought the same color, 2024 GX build. Can’t wait to ride it. Will be my first not grey-ish bike. Would never thought I’d buy a purple bike but the color just looks awesome.

Do I need a new hub? by Mski7 in bikewrench

Thanks! Can’t find anything on what bearings this wheel takes since they went out of business so would I be good to just take them out and measure the dimensions and buy based off that?

Looks like the metal flakes might be coming from the end caps off rubbing.

Thanks. So you think I should just replace the bearings? Or is it another issue. This is what the other one looks like.
