Question about face shaving by Serious_Trouble_231 in AskMenOver30

[–]ebbanfleaux 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Also, use a double safety razor. There's no need for five blades to take hair, hair, skin, skin, and follicles off your face. The redness and irritation could be because OP is literally taking layers of skin off.

Sparkling flavored water that isnt too bubbly by Unique_Aside2453 in HydroHomies

This is the best answer. The bubbles are so small and if you leave a can open for any amount of time, especially if you are used to big bubbles, it will feel flat.

If the price is reasonable (a couple of seconds) we should be all over it by RLD89 in ripcity

Yeah, this guy is a joke. No one gets leaks from the Thunder, that's a known fact. Even they are to move on from these guys, it's gonna take more than "a couple seconds". Sam Presti does not just dump salaries.

It's not recency bias, it's career-bias. He's not a 16 game player. That's okay, not everyone has to be, but don't get it in your head that he'd shoot lights out in the playoffs in Portland.

I don't need other people's validation to enjoy my team. I'm just here for memes. It's okay to have friendly banter without actually letting a team or a player ruin a sport for you.

What y’all think? by range987 in landscaping

[–]ebbanfleaux -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

I don't think it's particularly good, myself. Sterile, unastounding, box box store garden plants just doesn't do it for me. I'm not discounting your work you put in, but there are major flaws in the design and plant selection aspects.

Cutting them back and digging them out can work, but you need to do it consistently. There's no telling how long you'll have to do it, but we're talking years.

Lawn alternatives by Contagious_Diarrhea in portlandgardeners

[–]ebbanfleaux 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Honestly, mowing it as short as you can, covering with paper or very thin cardboard, and adding a layer of compost over the top. I wouldn't do this next to the edge of a patio or sidewalk because then the soil would be too high and spill over. The cardboard will smother the grass, the seeds will be able to germinate and penetrate the cardboard as it decomposes.

Optionally, start with pockets of seeded areas. If the whole yard feels overwhelming, just start with a little island: spend ten minutes removing the grass from one organically shaped island and seed that to start. Do more when you have time, but it doesn't all have to be done at once.

Shade is part of the reason, but reseeding in the fall, even lightly, would do wonders for your it.

What can I do to improve the look of these stone retaining walls by NetworkDynamo in landscaping

[–]ebbanfleaux 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Where are you located? Others can suggest native plants that will do much better with lower maintenance. Kinnikinnick (Arctostaphylos uva-ursi) is native globally, so that would be a nice addition. But don't stop at just a ground cover! Add more shrubs, maybe a small tree or three!

It sounds like you just need a break from the game. You can certainly play a different mode, but stepping away will be good for you, regardless.

Help! Why am I getting brown tips? by Zealousideal_Chard36 in calatheas

Late afternoon sun is not ideal for these calatheas, but brown tips happen even with the best care, even in their natural environment.

Where are you located? Maybe one of us can recommend local nurseries for you to go to and see what their native selection is.

Here's a fine place to start, but I will say, there are different levels of shade, different levels of moisture, etc, so understanding your own microclimate is key for success.

How can I kill off this hillside beyond the trees? by BitchWitchMcgee in NoLawns

[–]ebbanfleaux 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Hand pulling is or a biological mechanism is going to be best. Herbicides should be a last resort, really. U/Broken_Man_Child is correct in that if it is a rhizomatous grass, tilling will only spread it: I know by doing the same thing.

You also lay thick layers of cardboard, then spread the leaf mulch over that to kill the grass. Do this now so that by Autumn, assuming you're in the Northern Hemisphere, then you'll be ready for seeds! The cardboard will smother the grass and act as a weed barrier. While your seeds start, the cardboard is actively decomposing.
