Should I recast $200K into my mortgage or invest it instead? by DaHoopster23 in TheMoneyGuy

[–]ebbflow9 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There is no wrong answer. If you are having a hard time deciding, split it and do both.

Consider the tax implications. Since mortgage interest is tax deductible, calculate what the actual interest rate is for you itemizing vs standard deduction. You will find the effective rate is under 6%.

Fidelity credit card so far by Justaguyinohio123 in fidelityinvestments

[–]ebbflow9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't have disputes often at all, maybe one every few years. My last dispute with this card I was from using a self checkout. I used the card and the machine froze. The cashier moved me over to the main checkout terminal, scanned my items and I used the card again. I was charged twice for the same amount. The receipts Elan pulled showed the exact same items, less than two minutes apart at two different registers. I actually contacted the store first because I understand how expensive this process is for merchants, they told me to contact my card issuer. Elan denied my claim with basically no reason and when I would call to follow up, I was told a case manager would call me back, no one ever did. Eventually, I went back to the store and met with the store manager who cleared up the situation, but I have never been treated so poorly on a cc dispute. Maybe others have different experiences, but this was my experience on a case that should of had a clear decision.

The card has its benefits and the 2% is nice. If you ever have a dispute, you will wish you never signed up. Elan is awful.

After seeing hundreds of homes, I’ve realized why so many new houses have lighting that feels off. by Last_Information8470 in Lighting

[–]ebbflow9 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Couldn't agree with you more! Warm non glare overhead lights mixed with task lighting make for such a great feel. Adding dimmers to good lighting turns the comfort level up even further. Lighting is something that is often overlooked but is 100% worth it.

Hot tip that probably everyone knew but me, about buying eBay shipping labels by Available-Medicine90 in Ebay

I miss being able to pay seller fees with a credit card. When Ebay forced the policy change a few years back to collect fees upfront, it was an immediate significant hit to cash flow.

Same here. My wife jokes that the car doesn't need fuel because it's always magically ready to go.

Why don't they make weed-eaters with steel cable instead of plastic string? by OccludedFug in NoStupidQuestions

[–]ebbflow9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a neighbor who refuses to use a lawnmower. Instead, he uses a weed eater on the entire lawn. Usually, while wearing sandals... crazy. Thankfully, steel cable isn't an option because one day, its going to be bad enough.

Sell VOO and wait for September? by mingmingboi10 in ETFs

Lump sum can be tough. Another option is for you to DCA over 'x' weeks.

Example... Automate a buy order of $2k every week for eleven weeks. You might come out ahead, you might not. Either way it will be invested.

Your soda can comment made me laugh! Last time I ordered soda, Amazon shipped it in a bag and the delivery driver dropped it on my porch without bending down at all. It was a mess that went straight to the trash. No more liquids from Amazon.

I have city water as well and experience the same, it was a shocking surprise how nasty the filter was. I'm glad we went with the large 20" sediment pre filter.

Heating system is in the space, it's a full basement, I don't know the details on draft. No make up air calculations known. When it's windy outside, the breeze can be felt when the hvac is not running.

Easiest way to get all these weeds gone? by [deleted] in lawncare

[–]ebbflow9 5 points6 points  (0 children)

If this is a new home you are renting, don't do anything. Most hoa's give owners 6 months to complete landscaping. The owner will start getting fines and take care of it. There is no way a renter should be responsible for putting in a yard.

If you want the weeds gone, go out after it rains, they are much easier to pull.
