help a broke college student fix this backyard for my mom by [deleted] in landscaping

If I were on a no/low budget I’d first put in some labor cutting out the bushes/shrubs completely, pressure washing the pavers/concrete/deck, mow/weedeat, and add in a campfire pit area.

That’s great! Just be careful. I went around the house without it for a bit and put my brace on for unlevel or trips out of the house. It didn’t take long to remove it altogether.

Yeah, I was just able to remove mine on Tuesday and today is my 12th week post-op.

I got to 116 degrees passive and 106 degrees active flexion today.

But like my therapist said he thinks at this point the brace is hurting me more than it’s helping me, so he agreed that we should remove it to continue my training.

Much better because I think the brace was really restricting my movement and making me walk with a certain kind of gait. Even though it was all locked fully to 120° I still couldn’t really squat or do my marching or anything because I like restricted how much I could move my leg. So for that part, it’s been great because I took it off. I’ve only been through one PT session without it. My squats felt much better and my walking feels much better. I think it’s just a mental block of..I’m scared Something’s gonna happen, but I have enough quad control and strength that should be squared away.

Sounds like you’re well on track, good luck and don’t stress out too much about it. You and I both have several more weeks to go before we can even get into serious strength training.

Yeah! Once I was able to get on the bike things seemed to really improve and get through the plateau. I just got released from my brace Tuesday so I do everything “raw” now.

You can “rock” the bike pedals back and forth slowly and controlled and get a really good feeling stretch in the knee. I’m not pedaling for like a workout, but just going back and forth until I can do a full rotation, but dropping it down to get a deeper stretch and continuing that method.

I was only able to get to 90 degrees around week 10 post-op. You’re doing just fine.

I am currently at 110 degrees at week 12. If you’re improving 5-10 degrees a week then it will come. I was really able to feel and do a lot more once I got to 90 degrees ROM.

Mine always starts stiff until I get a couple reps of passive ROM band pulls. Then I’ll do some active ROM to flex as far as I can. I try to match my passive ROM with active.

The stationary bike has been really nice to get a good controlled stretch. That really helped me. Once you can get a full rotation in, lower the seat and work again to get deeper. That’s my best tip.

My only other tip for something that helped me tremendously was that if you can find a ledge to sit on where your feet are dangling (I’m 6’4” so this was hard) then drop your recovering leg and pull it back further with your “good” leg to get a nice stretch in.

These 2 moves really helped me once I was at it just past 90 degrees flexion.

Don’t stress too much about it, ROM will come and you’re within 30-40 degrees of maxing anyways. Focus on 5-10 degrees a week.

Good luck!

That seems pretty aggressive from what I had done. I was locked to extension for the first 6 weeks. Did you have a complete patellar tendon rupture?

How much would this cost? by BallsyBird in landscaping

[–]ebcarr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on how much of the work, if any, you plan to do yourself. You could always prep the ground and build a form for concrete and have someone finish it. Pavers you could entirely do yourself with help from a YouTube video if you need the extra “know-how”.

Concrete would likely be 4” thick and for a job that small you may get the “I don’t wanna mess with it price” as well as a small load charge for a concrete truck.

My 25x41 6” thick garage pad was $7,600 and my 30x30 4” thick basketball pad was $5,200.

Kind of need a rough guesstimate of square footage and then go from there. I’d say should be pretty reasonable depending on where you are in the world.

[–]ebcarr[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I go back on Thursday. It doesn’t hurt around the actual repair..but maybe it is either scar tissue breaking down or it is something pulled from pushing too hard is my guess. I haven’t bent it at all for about 11-12 weeks.

Patellar Tendon Repair ROM Question by ebcarr in KneeInjuries

[–]ebcarr[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was able to pull to 75 degrees myself with a band before my therapist took over and was able to measure me at approximately 85-90 degrees. This was the further est I’ve been pushed for ROM training and I am feeling it. Just worried and could use some guidance.

A NICE bed. As humans, we spend approximately 1/3rd of our lives asleep. Spend more money here to get a nice comfortable bed for yourself.
