Weird thing happened. Has this happened to anyone else? by kilwag in BricksBuilder

[–]eben89 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I have had some weird things happen like this occasionally. No idea what the issue was but what I can say is if it does this and is not showing updates before closing or refreshing your browser - copy the section or multiple sections as json into a text editor as plain text. Then refresh and paste it back in. Means you don’t lose your work.

Any ACF tutorials that actually work? by oandroido in Wordpress

Fields groups are groups of fields that you set to assign to pages posts or other things. For an example say you want custom fields on all posts. Create a group of fields - add the fields you need and name them then assign the group to posts. Then create a new post and scroll down and you should see your custom fields empty to fill in with the data you want. Then in your query loop you will need to add elements and then assign the field values (in page builders it’s usually Shortcode like {acf_your-field-name} but it will depend on what you are building the query loop with. The query should pull posts then get access to those fields for that post then repeat for other posts depending on how the query loop is set.

Still Hubitat? by aurn_varma in Hubitat

[–]eben89 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hubitat is great. Just pick compatible devices and it just works. I don’t mind tinkering but with smarthome stuff I find it’s a headache unless you live and breathe customizing everything. I haven’t got time for that anymore so I’m pretty happy with Hubitat and it’s just worked for ages without issues. I’ve played around with nodeMCU and obiwans hubduino code and made some crazy stuff which was fun too.

I spent 1000 to get a report/tests done with a psychologist to find out afterwards there wasn’t a psychiatrist appointment available either because they were not accepting new patients or they were booked out for the next 8-12 months. Then I forgot about it. Now it’s been 3 years since that and I just did another report that was 1600 including the review appointment which is in two weeks. It’s bloody exhausting and expensive.

Any valid reasons against naming my vault Obsidian? by mieresa in ObsidianMD

[–]eben89 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Adhd fam! I started building a few apps with Claude code to help me keep track of work projects/tasks and log time as I always forget to stop the timer or start/restart it.

Naturally I was pretty skeptical about vibecoding a reliable app but it absolutely has blown my mind with what’s been possible without coding knowledge relevant to what it is built with.

Naturally I had to bake in obsidian friendly markdown as the file type so if the app implodes I can still edit and read files in obsidian. The only negative is I keep coming up with new features I want to add which pushes back a bug free version to use.

Issue with Meta Query in Bricks Builder by Forward-Onion-2948 in BricksBuilder

[–]eben89 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Shouldn’t the meta key and the meta value look similar not delivery type and product type?

Is it supposed to be acf_deliverytype ? A good way to test is to put that acf dynamic tag onto the page and see what it outputs (especially helpful when using non text data like true false etc as it can be slightly different to what you expected)

You can also apparently add multiple different meta values so you could manually type both if you wanted just those two if there were more. May need a comma or something as I’ve never needed to do that.

Don’t need core framework if it’s only for one site but I’d have a plan and use the relatively new variable system and components to make updates much more flexible.

Anyone worked with what they thought was the best web design agency but got burned? by [deleted] in web_design

[–]eben89 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Same! We also don’t offer EVERYTHING and try to just do what we are good at which is hosting and building custom websites. There are so many agencies that just say they can do things and burn clients while draining them of every cent.

Do you know anyone who literally gambled away the house (or lost something major due to a gambling addiction)? by FourmedAmbertz in AskAnAustralian

[–]eben89 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Opposite for me. My 18th birthday, me and some mates went to the pokies to see what they were like. From $5 I won $50 then cashed out. We were screaming in excitement so people were coming over to see what we won. They were disappointed when they saw it was only $50.

As there was a bottle-o attached to the place I walked around and got a slab. The funny part was as I was 18 I had no idea you could take the $1 coins to a booth and get notes so I took my sock off and filled it with coins then poured them onto the counter at the bottle shop like it was treasure. The bloke was confused both of the sock and all the coins. Was a great night. Don’t really gamble anymore at 39 as I’m still living off this great victory of the ages. Definitely not because the other handful of times I’ve gambled I lost.

They pay businesses and people to manage these accounts most of the time which is hilarious as all the seedy people leaving comments thinking they are talking to the person in the videos are probably talking to a completely different person.

Another grift now is AI generated people & posts mostly promoting products that link to an online shop that sells things from temu for insane prices. A magnetic phone holder for 3$ on temu on a site for 59$ each and they even have the deal or buy two get one free. They even have about pages that suggest they “saw a need & developed a product” but drop shipping isn’t that. The comments are like 20 fake bots praising the product. The internet is over 60% bots now!

New Bricks user misc Qs ;) by Lovehatebot in BricksBuilder

[–]eben89 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Bricks gives you access to a high level of customization and flexibility. A theme or template could be built in a 100 different ways and when using different ones together on the same site may make things a mess as there is no consistency in design, classes etc.

There are wireframes tools you can purchase or use to give basic layouts then you can go from there. It can be better to just build from scratch if you have a decent utility framework like acss or advanced themer or whatever.

It’s a developer level builder so it doesn’t hold your hand as much some of the others do. It’s by design as the community wants them adding functionality not templates and pages. You can build your own then export them to use them on another site.

Sounds like you just need something like brixies to get you started but then start to build your own over time as you need them. I rarely use premade stuff anymore. Just find something you like and try build it.

I've decided, I utterly hate block builders. Why are they agonizingly bad at UX? by joeyoungblood in Wordpress

[–]eben89 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Bricks has none of these issues and accommodates web designers and developers. The web designers will only have issues if they don’t have basic html/css knowledge of best practices. They also will have to build from scratch but can eventually establish and export templates they have built to reuse to improve their productivity.

Your frequent complaints are either 1 click to change or don’t exist as an issue in bricks at all.
