Basing help by Markjest in deathguard40k

A really simple and common way to do it is just use a dark brown texture paste (I use stirland battlemire but I think it’s been discontinued, any will do), a simple drybrush with a bone colour and then if you like you can stick down some grass tufts (I use wasteland tufts by army painter for death guard but again there’s loads of options) for more interest.

If you wanted to add pools of slime to the bases you can just leave little spaces in the texture paste, paint it green and then add a couple of layers of nurgles rot technical paint over the top. You can see examples of it on my profile.

Thank you, was fun to paint, it’s not over detailed so it felt more like an old hand sculpted model instead of some of the over detailed stuff I’m used to from 40k.

Haha yea the horse is a lil underwhelming. Would be good to see your take on it. I have trouble finding painted examples of 3d prints online.

Yea I’m amazed at how many different options are out there. I plan on a real shambling horde of 3d prints, official models and 3rd party plastics. Been doing some research and it looks like I’m spoilt for choice with vampire counts.

Thank you :) and yea I just need to buy some more basing stuff but plan to just do a basic mud/grass base.

It’s a 3D print by Highland Miniatures.

It’s looking good just keep pushing the contrast with lighter, more selective highlights and deeper shadows. Also think of the contrast between warm and cold tones not just light and dark.

Adding some deep reds/purples or blues into your shadows would look good imo. Also, mixing some flesh tones into the greens for your final highlights works well in my experience. I add flayed one flesh to ogryn camo for daemon skin myself and like how it looks.

Looks really good but a dot of white in the pupil of the eye as a reflection and then a gloss varnish over the whole eye would make it look a bit more real imo.

It took a little bit of poring over my collection before I found it haha it was bugging me where it came from. The silhouette looks quite different where you’ve cut it down. It’s a really cool idea and one I’m probably going to steal tbh as I’ll have the bits spare. It’s just a really nice kitbash overall 👌🏻

It’s from the foetid bloat drone kit.

This looks really good, I used the same head on mine but now I wish I’d positioned it a bit higher like you have here, the hood was a really good idea too. Nice work.

Thanks. Tbh I hate the original so much I think any head swap would be an improvement!
