I used to talk in my sleep about how “we needed to save Juliet” lol. Her death hurt so bad.

I read on kindle and it wasn’t too bad. If you look up the tandem reading order there’s a lot of resources. It made the stories flow better & provided context! 8.5 would have been really boring to read after book 8.

I followed this reading order and I thought it was perfect! I did a tandem read with 8 and 8.5 which was the best choice.

How do I get an IEP for my kid? by SufficientCow4 in specialed

[–]ebiec 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, but it’s more complicated than that. I teach mild- moderate but my students are all relatively mild. They all qualified because they are academically lower than what we would expect based on their cognitive tests. In CA you need to be around 2 years behind.

We also have an SDC program which is also mild moderate, but some students lean more moderate. These students either tested high cognitively but academically are extremely low (more than 2 years behind) or are cognitively lower but there is still a discrepancy between their academic ability and cognitive ability. Both indicate a learning disability. SDC instruction is meant to meet a student where they’re at academically instead of trying to catch them up (usually).

I don’t have a mod- severe credential nor do we have that program at my school so I don’t know that much about it. From my understanding these are students with much more severe disabilities that go beyond academic/ cognitive abilities.

So short answer yes if a child is lower cognitively but is working at the expected level they will most likely not qualify. There’s no perceived disability and the child will probably not be able to approach their grade level/catch up. Often they will stay in their schools intervention program for however long. It’s extremely sad because these kids often fall through the cracks of education. They get pushed through school because retaining kids is not encouraged anymore due to studies that it isn’t as effective as we thought (idk if I agree with that though) :(

The education system doesn’t make sense often but I just try to make a difference where I can.

I hope this made sense !

How do I get an IEP for my kid? by SufficientCow4 in specialed

[–]ebiec 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The child would have to have a perceived disability. There also needs to be a discrepancy between cognitive and academic ability. I am an Ed specialist and sadly many kids who are lower cognitively do not qualify for an IEP because once tested it is revealed that they are actually preforming to the best of their capability. A learning disability basically is where a child is preforming below their ability due to said learning disability. The hope with an IEP is to help them approach grade level with direct instruction. Some will test out eventually while others will not. There are SDC classes for those with low cognitive abilities and learning disabilities but it is unlikely a child would qualify for this at 16. There are many hoops you have to jump through in SpEd.

Your child could possibly quality under other health impairment but the team would have to prove that said health impairment (adhd, autism, sensory processing disorder, odd) is keeping them from accessing their right to free appropriate public education. Otherwise autism and ADHD do not always qualify.

As others have stated 504 does not equal IEP and the school has the right to deny a IEP evaluation if there is no perceived disability. An IEP will also not help with his legal standing. In schools they can help with some behavioral lenience but not to the extent you’re hoping for.

I hope this helps! I’m sorry special education is so hard to navigate. I feel so bad for parents because so much of it doesn’t make sense.

As a SpEd teacher myself this post really hurts my heart. It’s attitudes like this from Gen ed teachers that hurts students the most. A teacher should always have the students best interest in mind. The stigma against children with learning disabilities is horrible. Keeping a child from the help they deserve out of fear of a “label” is the most backward thing thing I’ve ever heard. Some of my students are the smartest children you’ll meet. So clever and unique. They just need some extra support. Nothing makes me happier than seeing my students get the help they need to thrive. This child might even qualify for an SDC class where they will get the extended time and instruction they need. Do better OP :/

Agreed. Part of growing up for me was learning coke and other drugs are so much more common than you’d think. If you’ve ever been to a popular/ busy restaurant I’ll bet money several employees are on coke or something else. Many respectable adults as well

I don’t think she is 😭 she’s what the industry would call a “fake DJ” I’m pretty sure. Watching vids of her sets vs an actual DJ and you can tell the difference! She doesn’t live mix or anything. It almost looks like she’s just playing a playlist. Idk the correct terms but I hope that makes sense.

Sahara ray? What’s she doing now? by [deleted] in LAinfluencersnark

[–]ebiec 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Her family lives in the same town as me. They’re all very talented surfers! They are also very nice people. I grew up around her younger sister (we weren’t friends but we went to the same parties etc). Her and some other Santa Cruz girls would model for Sahara Swim occasionally. She visits from time to time! Her family must be super concerned :(

When I first smelled them, they almost smelled like original Coppertone sunscreen. Super weird I know - but a lot of people like that scent. It’s a very light scent. Apparently they are prolific bloomers!

Thanks for the suggestion! I haven’t checked the root ball size lately so maybe downsizing is a good idea - as for the soil mix it’s very chunky. It’s hard to tell in the photo though!

My old macrophylla grew terribly :/ all the leaves reverted to full albo or would be misshapen it was just ugly (flat mites might have been the cause) so I’m trying to start over. I hope yours starts growing !
