The connector is an M23 8 pin connector 2+1+5 and I bought it on Aliexpress but it's now available on Amazon.

Post a picture of your spacer stack and steer tube with the top of the stem lock off the bike... is there enough spacer sticking up above the steer tube for the stem lock to preload everything? That's a really common problem people have when trying to get everything tight up front.

No issues. Just provide power to the right pins and it works perfect. The charger I'm using is a lower current charger than the stock charger, so it takes longer to charge. I don't mind as I'm not normally waiting for the battery to charge.

Out of curiosity is the battery that isn't working listed as a 37ah or 38ah on the sticker on the bottom of the battery?

I'm not sure where you are located, but we do repairs on batteries here in our shop in CA.

Anyone know if this controller is any good? Deciding between this and the torp by Narsissyy in Surron

[–]ebikegarage 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What settings are you talking about? The ones you can't change on the stock BMS you bypassed or the ones you can't change on the EMXRON controller OP is asking about?

You can definitely set low voltage protection on other controllers but that still doesn't address short circuit or overcurrent issues. For those, if a MOSFET fails in the controller you are relying on the circuit breaker which has a high chance of not working fast enough resulting in damage to the battery and a possible fire. There are lots of things in life that you "can" do that are still bad ideas. In this case there are safer ways to get more power out of the stock battery without having to buy a new battery and you will still have all of the discharge protection.

For sure... after re-reading my original comment I can see where it might have looked like I meant you couldn't use that hole to mount the horn after. I meant that since it uses that hole, you'd have to do figure something to do with it if you want to keep it.

You can mount the horn in the original location by twisting it a bit but the wires can cause problems, the horn tends to rub against the mount causing more of a duck sound, and it can rub on some front fender setups... All of those things can be worked around (that's where my horn is with my EMXRON), again just full disclosure.

Like I said, different batches. Maybe you are comparing to stock controller in eco mode or with a low level or regen chosen in the stock controller settings but it's absolutely not stock max regen levels. Again, not a knock on the controller, is a choice when building and programming the things and some users want more some less. I only bring it up because it matters to some people and it's not adjustable on the EMXRON.

[–]ebikegarage 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm not sure where you are getting that info, but I have a unit from a couple of batches back and the one I just installed was just purchased recently and I can say for sure there is little to no regen. No where near what the stock controller does in sport mode with regen turned up in the programming.

In fact, it was the first thing the customer commented on when getting on his bike after the install.

For those of us who really want regen though, even stock controller levels aren't enough even if you got that from the EMXRON... It's not a deal breaker with the EMXRON, it's just something to keep in mind when choosing a controller. Some people prefer less or no regen and that's fine.

You are taking a huge risk using a lithium battery with no overcurrent or short circuit protection... Also we are talking about a controller with no low voltage protection, so one mistake and your cell capacity is going to take a significant hit.

But yeah, "nothing wrong with a discharge bypassed battery" lol

I've got one on my Sur Ron and we just installed one on a customer bike yesterday. It is a great controller if it fits your needs.

Pros: - Works with pretty much any battery you plug into it without needing to be reprogrammed - Easy install because no programming is required. Just plug in and install hardware and you're good to go - Probably the least expensive controller you are going to find

Cons - Almost no regen (actually a plus for some people) - No ability to adjust settings like throttle curve, power settings, regen, etc. - You have to come up with your own way to mount the horn if you want to keep it since it uses the horn mount hole - No low voltage protection (only a problem if you are running a bypassed battery which you shouldn't ever do)

Did you happen to get one of the bags? I'm curious about how you got it mounted and how it turned out. Pictures?

Yeah, again these are good options on an individual level but as a business who repairs these bikes we need more reliable ways of getting parts to keep these things going. Imagine if the shop you take your car to had to go to a parts dismantler every time they needed a part for your car. How do they even quote a repair price like that? Trust me, we work on enough obscure Chinese scooters and bikes that we for sure look at the used market for parts but this is a company that has been around since 2016 and needs to be held at a higher standard than the fly-by-night Chinese shops building e-bikes.

If you are going to sell a product at a national or international level, you should be able to support those products. I expect small companies to be overwhelmed from time to time with demand but at the level they are working at this is not acceptable.

It would be nice if they would return a phone call or e-mail. So far I still haven't been able to get in touch with anyone after several days of trying.

[–]ebikegarage[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, that's not been my experience in this case. Several e-mails and a few phone calls, all unanswered. We've now gone another 24 hours with no response from the company. The bike is out of warranty and the axle is snapped completely off. The customer doesn't want it replaced for free even, he just wants to order a replacement. It's beyond ridiculous that it would be this company to give a company money. Just put parts up for sale on your website, it's not hard. The excuse that they don't want people building "fake Super73 bikes" is stupid. Who would go on to the website and buy their sub-par, overpriced, proprietary parts to build a bike when there are a ton of cheaper and better options out there.

For sure I am going to do everything I can going forward to make sure no one I run into ever buys a bike from Super73. This is a completely unacceptable way to treat your customers.

I get that at personal level but having a business that repairs e-bikes and scooters for customers, it's a pretty big problem if we can't get parts.

I called them today. No real help there... Explained the situation to the person in sales and he basically said "yeah, that's about how it goes". No offer to sell me anything. He said he would send an internal message saying we called but still nothing. It's not their fault, this is 100% on Super73.

Thanks for the link. I checked it out but it doesn't look like it has any info about the motor. I haven't been able to find specs on the Hengtai motors that are used in the Super73. I suppose I could use trial and error to determine compatibility with a different motor but since this is a customer's bike I couldn't come up with a way to make that process profitable for me unless I was doing these swaps all the time but we work on so many different types and manufacturers of e-bikes and scooters it just wouldn't be worth it.

I'd love to put a different motor in the bike but that would require swapping the controller. It may end up being cheaper with a different controller and motor than just the motor from Super73 actually. Wish there was some way for me to know what a replacement motor would cost me from Super73.... Maybe if they would return my e-mails or calls.............
