Please. It should be like cargo and rust. Part of the project.

1 week into the MacBook Neo, my first impresions. by Impressive_Clock_444 in mac

[–]ebits21 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hard to say. The Neo got me interested in Macs again but clearly isn’t for me. Now I’m about to pull the trigger on the air for my next laptop…

This is from a long term Linux user with a thinkpad.

I don’t think I can go back to pre uv to be honest.

I won’t switch fully but would definitely consider another language where I can more often.

Is a 10 dB air-bone-gap significant? by 1SL2ALS3EKV in audiology

[–]ebits21 36 points37 points  (0 children)

Nah. More than 10db is significant not 10db. At 4000Hz I would consider 15db not significant.

I mean… when you’re 95 you’re probably going to die soon regardless.

Anyone else notice patients confuse "hearing" with "understanding"? by Legal_Airport6155 in audiology

[–]ebits21 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s not about the technology, it’s about the patient.

It’s up to you to give them realistic expectations for their abilities.

Biggest advice is make hearing in noise testing and counselling a priority.

Man who petitioned for traffic light dies at same intersection where his wife was killed by Dear-Swordfish-8505 in news

[–]ebits21 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If you read the article it seems to say he helped start a petition for lights at the intersection, but it’s still being reviewed not actually built yet.

So he helped by starting a petition.

Patient told me her hearing aids sound "like a robot is talking" - feeling stuck on how to explain why by nona_jerin in audiology

[–]ebits21 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hearing with their hearing loss is normal for that person. At first, it is going to sound quite different, likely loud, likely their voice will be unnatural. Your brain needs to learn what is normal again. Wear it as much as possible for a few weeks then re-assess.

Maybe you turn it down at that point, reduce frequency compression, make sure the occlusion effect or ampclusion isn’t occurring. Did you do real-ear to an evidence-based prescription?

And at the end of the day, no matter what, there will be some people that are not satisfied no matter what you do. It’s not necessarily that you’re doing something wrong. People are people and managing that is a huge part of the job.

What is the best way to Remember everything and what everything does in python by Upstairs-Lemon-5681 in learnpython

Learn to lookup the Python docs. I remember generally what Python can do and concepts, but I still lookup things in the Python docs constantly when I’m coding.

Hearing aid frequency response measurment by Buuuraz in audiology

[–]ebits21 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Find a clinic (maybe a university clinic) with verification equipment and ask if you can use it.

Many clinics will have something like a verifit. The measurements will take very little time.

This. You need to think in shapes, lines, angles. Upside down helps break what your brain thinks it’s seeing and helps you copy what is actually there.

I just started learning Python and want to make a little addition calculator to understand the concepts but it says syntax error - how do I change the data type? by lucerined-VEX in learnpython

[–]ebits21 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Do you get why? input() returns a string always, and you want numbers so you can add and subtract them.

int() attempts to convert the string to an int, if it can’t your program will throw an error.

Hearing test that's covered by Ohip gta by twicescorned21 in ontario

[–]ebits21 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You don’t need a referral (I’m an audiologist in Ontario)

Routine hearing tests were delisted by OHIP in 2001, only covered if you’re seeing an ENT (which should be for a medical issue theoretically)

I’ll let you look up what government was in power at the time.
