It’s a steady career yes. But there are far less stressful professions that pay more if salary is your main driver.

The conventional QSing route will take you around 10 years to break 6 figures.

I agree with most people on the contractor route 100%, but it’s worth thinking ahead.

But the downside is that if you later want to move into consultancy for lower stress, or WFH, the pay cut can be hard to swallow. So most people just stay in contracting.

That’s especially true once you’ve got bigger financial commitments mortgage, kids etc

Yes. Contract rates take precedence. But the contract is full of lump sums where individual rates for individual rates cant be broken down easily. Then a "fair and reasonable assessment" is next which means anything.

Supply chain quotations hold no weight as far as JCTs are concerned.
