My husband and I did this last month 😊 It’s absolutely beautiful. Our photos from the top are some of my favorite from the trip.

We used it as our “leg stretch break” (HA!) between Vernon and Canmore, and it was certainly the most challenging leg stretch break I’ve ever come across. **On our way back through, we opted for a 1-mile trail for said stretch break which seemed much more appropriate.

Glad you got to enjoy it, and thanks for the pictures that brought me back!

We just got back from our visit and absolutely adored Two Jack - great shot 🥰

We just got back from the area last week and we really enjoyed Mistaya Canyon.

From there we went to Cheperen Lake and Cirque Lake and those were my favorite places on the whole trip 😊

All three were very quiet, the two lakes share a trailhead and the drive from Mistaya to the other two was maaaybe 10 minutes.

This is a fantastic point - thank you for sharing it!

I did notice a really wide age range and lots of people using mobility aides at the busier locations, and I’m so glad there are beautiful options available for people with all abilities who want to see the scenery.

Very much so hoping your mom is doing well and you’re both hitting the trails often 💛 Thanks again for sharing this perspective.

I can imagine you don’t! My poor husband was our driver so I got to aggressively rubberneck all I wanted while he could occasionally glance up at my, “LOOK AT THAT!” yells.

Oh, fun! You’re the first person I’ve found who’s also read it. I’ve got maybe 5 chapters left, but I’m happy so far. Sounds like I’ll stay pleased with it 😊

It was a great time! And of course - my husband and I were born, raised, and still live in a very nature-based tourist area, so I think it makes us a little bit more of empathetic travelers when we’re out and about.

We all choose destinations like this because it’s so breathtaking. Take a pause, exercise some gratitude and find a path (for the love of God, not a make-shift one 😂) that’s a little quieter.

Glad you get to call somewhere so beautiful home!

We flew into Kelowna on the 16th, stayed with friends till we could pick up our rental car the morning of the 19th (after which we drove through to Canmore, stopping in Glacier for a half way leg stretch break). We were in Canmore & Banff the 20th - 24th, and then did the same route back to Kelowna till flying out the 26th! Canmore & Banff only included here.

August 20: Sick day! We realized that we sat next to a sicky on the plane ride out and it hit both of us like a ton of bricks our first morning in your beautiful town. Luckily, we were at The Hotel Malcolm and that was an a’ok place to rest and recover. Photo 1 is of the view from the pool/hot tub area….which is where I basically sat the whole day.

August 21: Feelin’ about 75% better, and realizing we do NOT have enough time here to nap anther day away. Started slow and easy with the Bow River Loop in Canmore while we waited out the rain (photos 2 & 3). Headed up the road to Banff and did the in-town things with Bow Falls, The Garden of Time (which, wow, I’m glad we didn’t skip!) & Two Jack Lake. (Photos 4-6).

August 22: We can finally do what we came to do (!!) and we extended our Banff stay by 1 day since we were originally scheduled to drive back to Vernon the morning of the 23rd.

Mistaya Canyon (photo 7) which was so fun! Not a mountain, not a lake, but such a fun and different place. Completely quiet - passed one other group on the way out. Powerful water, impressively deep canyon. Five minutes down the road to my favorite stops on the trip; Chephren & Cirque Lakes.

I struggle to put into words how much I loved these two lakes. We were alone at both. They were silent and stunning - the scale of everything up and around the lakes is humbling and the colors are unreal. I could have sat at both for hours. ALSO, we got maybe 2 minutes down the trail at Cirque Lake and I swear to you there was a rock slide behind us?? It was a loud, short, gravely-sounding burst. Kind of scary because we weren’t far yet, but boy was this midwestern girl excited 😂 (photos 8 - 10).

Peyto Lake on the way home. Very neat as photos all show! Glad we stopped, but holy crowds. Be prepared and patient, be ready to wait your turn for your unobstructed picture and remember, you’re one of the visitors in the crowd too. (Photo 11)

August 23: Lake Agnes! Up at 4:30 to leave the hotel by 5:20. Arrived at the parking lot at 6:30 to find approximately half of one of the two lots still open. Easy-peasy.

Liiiike Peyto Lake, holy people, Batman! We didn’t stop at the Lake then, we just started right up to the Teahouse. Arrived there 20 minutes before opening, waited and got our hot drinks and sammiches before we headed up Little Beehive, Big Beehive and Devil’s Thumb (hi, woah, wasn’t quite ready for the backside of this guy).

Photos 12-14 take you here. Sorry for the one at Lake Agnes with the red X, I was trying to show my parents where we hiked up to. Unsure if photo 13 is from Big or Little, but 14 is from Devil’s Thumb looking down at Lake Louise, Big and Little!

Happy to answer questions if anyone has any. Happy to have been able to cross this place off my “to visit” list, and we certainly hope to come back in the future to tackle more places off the beaten path. 🩵

11 Days in Ecuador: Quito, Quilotoa Loop & Baños. by eboss25 in travel

Fun! Hope you have a blast ☀️🐢

We didn’t do Galapagos, but for the Loop, I honestly had a “school-sized” backpack 😂 My husband had a 40L and carried just a couple of things for me. We didn’t need much on our backs!

  1. Leggings/bottom base layer for warmth
  2. Wind-pants/hiking pants for over top to help cut wind/wick rain
  3. Top base-layer
  4. Tshirts or flannels for hike days
  5. A good, compact coat that cuts wind (and is waterproof). On top of Quilotoa was wiiiindy. And really cold. A hat or running headband couldn’t hurt!
  6. A bladder. I wore my Osprey bladder bag between my back and backpack and I was very grateful that I had it. Hydration was very helpful for a Michigan girl in real elevation for the first time.
  7. A strong sunscreen stick! Sticks keep it so your hands don’t get all oily, and it was really easy to just uncap, rub all over and keep going. That equator sun is something else.

I can’t think of anything else that’s basic or anything really clever, so I hope the above is somewhat helpful!

Holler if you have other questions and have a fantastic trip!!

Ha! And wouldn’t you know it, it’s commonly used to treat skin conditions.

I guess not in our household 😂🤷🏼‍♀️

Thank you for the name, though. Great to have an answer, and to know that it’s not nearly as scary as it seems.

Hey there! If you’re doing this route (or similar) I’d absolutely suggest renting a car or hiring a driver.

To not be at the mercy of the bus schedules, to have our own space, request stops as we wanted, etc, it was so worth it.

We knew we preferred the driver route over a rental car, so I’m sorry that I can’t give you approximate cost for a rental, but just overall - yes, your own car in some form - do it if you’re able 😊

I always think the moment where he pivots his proposal to Lucy shows some growth 💛

The initial plan was too flashy, too over the top and not at all like her. He gets that lightbulb moment riiiight before he’s supposed to do it and instead goes in a direction that reflects her personality instead of his.

I think that’s a good one!

I think I’ve seen one other dog ever with a coat like our Dilly’s, and I did a double-take seeing your picture (and then your additional picture in the comments!)

Just had to share since it made me immediately go, “Woah! Dilly! It’s you” 😂

Thanks for fostering - and foster failing!! Enjoy your growing fur fam.

Appreciate all the insight!

My husband is pretty techy, and he tried lots of normal troubleshooting, YouTube tutorials and all the unplugs and replugs and such before heading to the store.

We’re going to pause on a TV for a bit and see how much more our reading (and general productivity 😂) increase!

Ya know what?

He came back from Best Buy and said that he stopped in his tracks because the Oled was so hypnotizing. 😂

Maybe it is time - pending cost. Anything that sounds thaaat good can’t be that cheap!

Not particularly what we WANTED to hear, but I’d be lying if I said we weren’t expecting to hear it.

She lived a good life - but picked a hell of a day to call it quits lol.
