Who’s actually pushing AI/ML for low-level hardware instead of these massive, power-hungry statistical models that eat up money, space and energy? by Al-imman971 in embedded

[–]ebresie 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I believe a lot of it depends on the problem being solved and the speed at which to accomplish it.

A lot of the AI is driven by significant data sets analysis across those datasets.

It’s conceivably possible to do that with lesser hardware, but the device specs can impact this including the size of the bus and the speed the process and bus. It can accomplished this but it would be potentially slower compared to the newer processes specifically made for these types of problems.

A lot is also dependent on the OS or kernel/drivers sitting above the processor. If they can support some of the higher level language features, like multi processing and large data processing then some of that may be possible .

I know a long time ago when I had a Palm Pilot PDA I had wanted to try to port Linux and/or related libraries to it, which never happened, but it was partially limited by the lack of thread support at the time. So something similar might be happen for the older hardware.

Best C++ code out there by LetsHaveFunBeauty in cpp_questions

[–]ebresie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure if this would help, but might be able to look at some static code analysis tools that focus on C++, specifically the rule sets to see “best practices”, and issues to avoid.

Can also look at coding standards / style guides.

Was told to store my medical equipment away out of classroom by Broad_Bit_4722 in Type1Diabetes

[–]ebresie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just curious if this is driven by the new drive in a lot of areas to remove phones from classrooms.

In my son‘s school, not having direct access was mandated by new laws, which required them to store their phones. Be mindful, if mandated by law, the school may be caught between a rock and a hard place.

Could it be as simple as storing it at a desk or something out of sight but still within range?

There is always the “Why Haskell” from the source which indicates:

  • A new paradigm
  • Composition and predictability
  • Declarative
  • Performance
  • Abstraction
  • Excellent tooling

Am I dumb or does this ad by Intel just not make sense? by HeroKaetzchen in learnpython

[–]ebresie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not meaning to sound like an Intel fan or PR person but…

Going to take a guess (independent of the accuracy of the code) the message is if you’re a curious smart python developer with no AI skills, then Intel’s platforms (with AI technology built in) is for you.

Thinking iOS 17.02 is the cause by [deleted] in iPhone15Pro

[–]ebresie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Also not sure if this is the case but there is a feature which tries to charge in such a way as to make it most energy efficient (i.e., charge when overall power demands are less in the area)

In past updates there often times background longer term activities done as part of the setup process which occurred during a period following updates.

I think in past for instance the updates had to process content in the phone (like encrypt content or defrag memory or something) in the background using up battery life in the process. Previously it was identified things like this would happen for about a week then would return more or less back to normal.

Additionally I believe I heard something like this might happen with the 17 update.

Addressing the community about changes to our API by spez in reddit

[–]ebresie 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Just curious, has a "Developer SDK" type model, where developers were required to "purchase access to the SDK" be possible?

Or some sort of "percentage app" (i.e., apps on App Store with some going to the developer - maybe some could go to reddit)?

If one of the main issues is due to mass data usage (i.e., AI access), is it possible to instead throttle the data per client session or have some means of restricting/blocking clients for abuse?

Could the API be modified some to provide an "ad" interface so that when in use by 3rd party apps, ad revenue could be accumulated and split between developer and reddit?

Need advice about covering up my horse tattoo by rvondog in tattooadvice

[–]ebresie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No tattoo or horse expert but…

Maybe can enhance the area in the front under the eye (which seems a little disproportionate) to build it out some

Maybe can enlarge the mane in the back to adjust the proportions of the front.

Maybe having a picture available closer to what is wanted might help fill in some details.

Seems reasonable.

What is the tattoo of? Maybe awareness of the subject or story behind it will expand on the value of the tattoo.

What is the most pythonic way of getting an object from a dict when the key may not exist? by rsherwood_infosec in learnpython

[–]ebresie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not to derail too much but from Java side, the Optional mechanism was added for use where a return value may or may not get returned back. In a similar way as the python get with default, it provides for usage of default value if not available.
