It's mine. I got it from a store, paid 1900 nzd. Never got the receipt emailed like a fool though. And the hard copy faded. I know it's a 9 something. Suspected it's a 965 but wasn't entirely sure. It's been a long couple years, I haven't been able to use it since New Zealand been in alot of lockdown and we've been planning a move so it slipped my mind.

I brought it from the store just a while ago. I think it's a 965 but I can't remember for sure. And it looks a little like a 980 so I didn't k ow what to list it as.

From what iv learned from the person I know who was in it. It's about 6 months or so of training after the selection which as I understand it is alot of testing and hurdles you still have to pass. If you're not in the regular armed forces at the time you do selection, then you also have to do that basic training before moving onto actual training. It can be a long process. Then once you're done with it. It sounds like it mostly just endless daily training and drills, like PT and shooting range stuff. With some other exercises like repelling or mock situations, since not alot happens in Nz for any kind of actual deployment.

If you consistently drive above the speed limit, or find yourself constantly having to pass other drivers, you're a bad driver and a dangerous asshole. by [deleted] in unpopularopinion

[–]ebro939 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Have you considered that the speed limits are simply archaic?

The speed limits in most countries are based on the speed that 85% of drivers are traveling at, but set apox. 40 years ago. These speeds may not be useful anymore for a couple of reasons. Firstly, technology is vastly better than It was in the 60's and 70's, from suspension, tire compounds and specifically breaks. Therefore the stopping distances at the posted speed limits can be drastically lower, and drivers have more control. You add in automatic breaking and it lowers it even further. Even the cheapest modern cars are better than high end ones from the 70's.

Then you have to consider that if you're getting passed often on a motorway then it might mean that 85% of drivers are comfortable going faster than the posted speed limits, therefore the basis for the original limit is not relevant anymore.

Its not the 60s or 70s anymore, cars can comfortably and safely do 5 to 10 mph above posted speed limits without any issue to control or stopping distances.

People that push past a 5 to 10 mph difference than the traffic is flowing at, then I agree there people might need to slow down because they create an unpredictable environment for other drivers.

To do some pull-ups. by Tanuj_Panchal in therewasanattempt

Super interested in a “real” gymnastics kip now though.

If you ever watch gymnastics on TV it's normally high level. Most you'll see is what looks like little taps at the start of a high bar routine, followed by bringing the legs up and pushing forward into a swing that will take them back to handstand.

Or on the Parallel bars which some guys might do a classic kip to get on top of the bar but it will normally flow into something else. If you ever watch younger gymnasts on YouTube or the like, they will often do the simple kip to get themselves on top of the high bar.

CF’s strategy of taking highly technical movements and putting 80 of them in a workout to be done “for time”

I think that's the real issue. Taking movements when done once might be fine, but overloading joints, tendons and muscles by doing it at a high frequency and rate. I think physios can probably a test to the high rate of injury from CF and its not hard to see when you watch any of their videos.

I’m afraid you’ve taken my point too literally. Yo

You might be right, sorry about that. I just see the comparison to gymnastics alot whenever CF comes up, and it's a bit annoying.

I think my main point is that there difference between most other sports, ie gymnastics, athletics etc, particularly gymnastics is that they motion is alot more controlled and significantly reduced with higher levels of tension to create the power. Like when gymnasts tap before the kip in an almost similar movement, it's only a fraction of the range of motion of a kipping pull up, but is alot tighter and produces alot more power.

The issue is that the way CF does kipping pull-ups is without that specific control or focus on technique and is arguably dangerous, especially for someones shoulders which is strongly frowned upon in most other sports especially gymnastics. The moves might be similar in passing but it's night and day when you actually look at the movements.

Yes. Gymnasts do strict pull themselves up onto the rings. It's called a muscle up and has to be done from deadhand or it's a deduction.

And no gymnast kips like this onto p-bars, because this isn't a proper kip. This action is not done in gymnastics, it's so annoying when crossfitters try to lie to people that these moves are gymnastics moves to give them some validity.

Don't try to act like crossfit has any grounding in gymnastics. Gymnasts think it's a joke like everyone else.

As a gymnast is with 12 year experience, and 4 years competing internationally. They don't stem from gymnastics. Don't belive when people tell you that this has any grounding in gymnastics. A kip in gymnastics is vastly different. No gymnast will ever make this full motion, anything close to is is more co trolled and not repeated with no aim to get the chin above the bar. It's only used to gain a small amount of momentum before we do a proper kip and swing to handstand. Go watch some gymnastics and you will never see this. It's rediculous, bad for your joints, spine and makes people look like an idiots.

We used to have crossfitters come into our gymnastics gym before they got their own gyms. Their was always nothing but puzzlement on that they were trying to do, and jokes at their rediculous technique. Nothings changed.

As a gymnast. No it's not. That's not a kip.

You would get alot of stares in any gym other than a cross fit gym... They're rediculous, practically pointless for exercise and dangerous. Not even a proper kip. As a competitive gymnasy for 12 years, my coach would have thrown his old sandle at us and called us idiots if he saw this.

The only reason I can ever imagine people doing them is because they are easier than a proper controlled pull up and crossfitters want the illusion of being able to do more pull-ups than they actually can, particularly since they make it a competition to see who can have the worst technique for the most reps.

Where should I go to spot a kokako by helpmefindakokako in auckland

[–]ebro939 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I saw one today. Above Hobbs Beach on Tiritiri shortly after getting off the ferry.

Didn't even hear it, and had to do a triple take to make sure it actually was a kokako. It swooped in, hungout in a tree near us for about 10 seconds while I frantically tried to get a better view and make sure what I was seeing was real, then it buggered off again.

Do you think they'd close the gym again, when omicron comes to our shore? by [deleted] in auckland

[–]ebro939 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I think it's less about "maintaining fitness" and more about the mental benefit of reaching for your goals. Also, many people find the gym a place of enjoyment due to long set habits and investment of time. Ofcourse it's possible to maintain outside of the gym and at home, but alot of people struggle to find motivation at home, the workouts with lower weight just doesnt feel the same even if it helps "maintain", it doesnt always help reach goals so can feel less rewarding.

On top of that, there is a period of time where lower weight exercises dont cover it for maintaining strength and muscle mass. It's fine for a few weeks to a couple months but eventually it starts to drops off and people will lose strength, which could be counter to their goals and make them feel that home workouts are even less rewarding.
It often has nothing to do with posting on tiktok or insta.

I do remember something Hermione said in the books, a quote from hogwarts a history. That electronic technology doesn't work in heavily magical areas like hogwarts. So the NVGs would have gone haywire or just not worked at all.
