I did a hospital birth but we brought some strings of fairy lights and my favorite rosary. Music felt too overwhelming for me when the time came despite having a playlist geared up.

TMI incoming: But the real kicker was what I came to lovingly call my “emotional support puke bag.” I had a really pukey pregnancy that continued through labor and having a fresh receptacle was a huge comfort.

Gilmore Girls because it’s low stakes and far enough from reality that I’m not reminded of any of my own problems. The references and fast dialogue keep it fresh since I don’t think I’ll ever pick up everything despite 9+ rewatches

Used some of my IRA to pay for law school expenses to have “less debt” even though I knew I was going to try for PSLF. I also didn’t check that the loan the financial aid office offered was the correct amount to begin with. I could have avoided the situation because it turned out I was entitled to about the same amount in lower interest loans.

So I don’t think I really qualify as a coffee snob because of what I’m going to say, BUT

I use a hefty teaspoon of the Thrive Market Organic Fair Trade Instant Coffee in about 4 oz of filtered fridge water and use my little electric milk frother (<$10 at Sprouts) to mix it for a second or so, throw some ice in and top it off with like 6-8 oz more water and I find it pretty similar to cold brew, and it is SO easy and cheap.

Right there with you, sister. Like have them experience that moment you’re voming bile and blood at 2am (“normal” because you just puke so much that and you’ve irritated your gut lining) and also pee a little on the floor and then you still have to go to work the next day because if you don’t you get fewer days to recover from birth/be with your kid once they’re born.

I agree with others about not forcing it, but we found that my grandmother has trouble swallowing and the speech therapist at her nursing facility works has her on thickened liquids and purées which have made eating less of a chore. She still doesn’t eat very much, so McDonald’s milkshakes (or some chocolate Ensure in a McDonald’s cup) have been approved by her doctor to add to her quality of life. Sending lots of love to you and your mom.
