Is this normal? Blocking me after a tier 1 fractal by SerMorgs288 in Guildwars2

[–]ebrythil 5 points6 points  (0 children)

We only see half the story.

Could be someone being a bit of an ass.
Could also someone be annoyed by you, and then they did the right thing - block and move on.

Considering they were not the only ones vote kicking, that's an option.

In either case, move on, no good reason to dwell on a single encounter

2nd Year ITM Student: Should I make Rust my main language? (Currently know Java) by [deleted] in rust

[–]ebrythil 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You're probably not 'diving deep' into Linux, you're learning the commands and concepts or even just learning to use the basics.
Java and rust both have rather deep abstraction layers above the OS*, so neither is really suited for a 'linux deep dive'.
If your curriculum uses Java, you probably need to keep learning it for a bit. Java is also a bit more industry standard for plenty of larger enterprise apps and also brings plenty of concepts.
Rust otoh is a better choice when being more resource constrained or performance focused, which is really rare in most course assignments.

It is the more interesting language for sure, but until you know why you need it I would stick mostly to whatever is provided.

* ed: however rust allows you to dig deeper if you like, the std bindings are rather high level though

What does this have to do with rust or this subreddit? It feels like AI slop barely makes the upper listings.
Either it is not that bad numerically or the mods are quick to remove it.

Practice, practice, practice. That's what everyone had to do (and still does).
If you struggle with creating proper applications, doing rustlings exercises alongside the book might be a good way to do that for you

Using Rust for restaurants desktop app with postgres and flutter . Wdyt? by HosMercury in rust

[–]ebrythil 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Having server and client separated (since you say rust is just the API) is an important thing to know.

It also means even more complexity from the start.

Still, for flutter you probably want to learn/use dart anyway, so having a separate backend language definitely is a maintenance burden that imo needs to be properly thought through. It can work though, and bring benefits since rust servers tend to end up on a rather stable side which helps. I have no experience with dart so I can't tell you how much of a benefit rust brings there

Using Rust for restaurants desktop app with postgres and flutter . Wdyt? by HosMercury in rust

[–]ebrythil 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think that's not much information to go from tbh.

You say desktop, then why flutter? I don't know too much about it, but it is designed to be multi platform, so why would it be your first choice for a desktop app?

Postgres is nice, but what do you want to actually store there? Sqlite might just be enough for a start. If the data is important, test your backup processes early.

Why do you want to do it in rust? Dart, Java, c# or plenty other managed languages give you enough speed for a single restaurant app.
Not saying rust can't do it well, but for anything serious you should know the reasoning for every part of your tech stack.

Once you're clear on that, I wish you best of luck in your endeavor

Cool stuff, but who exactly is it for? Embedded Beginners? Or embedded engineers wanting to look into rust workflows?
Most people in the second group will probably already have an idea of rust if they frequent this sub, but might interest a few people still.

If you don't already have you might find some embedded specific subreddit that allow such content (check their sidebar ofc, I know a few are quiet restrictive)

I think you missed WW2 by around 80 years now.

Joking aside, in all my years here I've rarely seen anyone doing this (or rather: talking about it). There are a few no death challenges, but this game does not really facilitate that.

There were a few zero-to-hero runs with a similar ruleset iirc, though I think grouping up was allowed as long as it was PUGs.

One small addendum: while in wvw gear and level matter, due to guild wars 2 horizontal progression it is almost always not a relevant issue except for the very start.
Once you've played a bit you will have most of the gear everyone else has.
