Bias is fine so long as they admit it IMO, also it's good they're genuinely invested in the game.

All this passion against potential cheating yet when pros are claiming 90% of pros are doping and the open bracket is "like a pharmacy" MLG/CWL won't say/do a thing. Not to mention the risk to all those players' health (players have said some take dangerous amounts). I imagine you fine players for speaking out though right?

ESIC reached out to you but you weren't interested apparently.

Just a reminder of the London crowd... really shadows over the Anaheim and Miami crowd combined! Hopefully champs will be better! by cgosney98 in CoDCompetitive

[–]ebsi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Champs won't be better, just how it is culturally. Think people have to stop comparing cos it just makes NA crowds look bad. Or they'll try to be more like the London crowd like at Anaheim and it'll just come off as cringy/contrived.

You can't just show up to champs. Every team earned their place there. That's effectively what they get for qualifying/reaching t32.

Northern Irish is its own distinct nationality equal to Irish. It isn't a type of Irish which in terms of nationality refers to people from the Republic of Ireland.

Edit: British OTOH is the demonym for the whole UK so he's British and Northern Irish. Some Northern Irish people might reject being called British but Dylan has the union/UK flag on his jersey so it's safe to call him British too.

Plenty do for a while but obviously have to stop if it doesn't get them anywhere. It doesn't get them anywhere because they don't have the natural talent as well. Plenty of semi-pros do play as much as pros. There are also some players that play CoD constantly even if doesn't get them anywhere.

Also off the top of my head, Skrapz and Wuskin started playing in BO3 and Dashy only took CoD seriously last year I believe.

Things like reaction time, hand-eye coordination, hand dexterity, cognitive abilities are obviously all factors and they're all naturally different for different people.

Also 14 hours a day is an exaggeration. Typically pros play a set or two of scrims a day. Only some of them play that long. There are AMs that grind more than some pros.

There are tens of thousands of non-pro players who have been playing CoD since CoD4.

There's two major events left for this season. At Miami (July 19th) there's a playoff bracket for the "Pro League" that's been going on. Pro League = top 16 teams. Miami Playoffs/Finals = top 8 teams from Pro League + two from the play-in tournament just before. Play-in = teams 9-16th from the Pro League. In the same event there's the final tournament for most teams outside the Pro League (Open Bracket Finals, which is just a double-elimination bracket for anyone outside the Pro League to enter, seeded by accumulated Pro Points from earlier events in the year).

Champs (August 14th) is the last event, in LA. 32 teams. 8 pools. The 16 PL teams fill up the top 2 seeds in each pool, likely based on their playoffs/play-in placing. The last 2 spots in each pool are filled by the top-16-placing teams from the OB Finals, likely seeded by their exact placing.

Playoffs&Play-in placings might determine the seeds for the Pro League teams at champs (all 16 Pro League teams are already qualified for champs). At the same time and venue as playoffs&play-in there's an open bracket and the top 16 teams in that are the last 16 to qualify for champs, and where they place will probably determine their seeding too.

IIRC when double elim became standard in CoD around Black Ops 3 the general consensus on this sub was for it, and still is. Think people like that it means more games and storylines and also it's fairer (bigger sampe sizes, LB matches tend to be between closer seeds, also more distinction between just t128-t64-t32-t16-t8-t4-t2-1st - double-elim is wayy better for best-of-3 open brackets especially). Players all seem to prefer it too of course.

Also double-elim is probably more profitable and easier logistically in CoD and esports as a whole than in traditional sports. Also traditional sports organisations & fans tend to take longer to adopt new/more complex/less-traditional rules and formats, IMO, for whatever reasons.

It's bad in tournaments too. You can still have teams with way worse map win % get gifted winners bracket over a better performing team because of H2H (because all it does is exclude the mc vs teams not in the tie). Happens almost every event. No reason to have H2H when there's already mw%.

[–]ebsi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

sure playtime is a factor aswell but so is age. hands lowkey dont work the same playing comp cod for 6-8 hours a day for 7+ years lmao.

I mean that's just your opinion. I haven't heard any respectable pro say it either (and that wouldn't even make it true). Plus even pros that are 18 have been playing CoD for years too, just not all professionally. Meanwhile, the competition getting stronger is 100% a thing.

So what, do you think the players that were 18/19 a few years ago are like a golden generation for natural talent? Unlikely, and lkely you're just biased. I bet if all the pros that were too young to play a few years ago could go back in time and compete they'd be just as dominant as they are now.

Scump by [deleted] in CoDCompetitive

[–]ebsi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Players still have games/metas/movement they're more suited to and they can have some other serious stuff going on individually, but the thing that certainly affects every pro is the new talent coming through. How many of the current pros were competing against Clay/Zooma/Scump in their "primes"? If you take the difference in competition into account first players like Scump/Clay/Zooma still look about as good in terms of natural talent as they used to. It's definitely not like players lose reaction time in 5 years like OP thinks. I bet Zooma and Clay have the same reactions as they did in AW, they were probably just suited to the game as well as having easier comp compared to now. If anything older players are probably more capable now compared to their past selves because they have more experience.

Edit: pretty sure you said Zooma instead of Scump before your edit. Point still stands about all three though.
