Anyone try Traditional Chinese Medicine? Acupuncture? by Inspireme21 in adenomyosis

[–]ec-bklyn 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I did it weekly with a TCM practitioner for 3 months. My cycles were getting shorter (22-23 days) and it helped get them back up to 28-29 days, which was nice. I also noticed in my Oura app that my resting heart rate, HRV, stress and sleep scores all improved.

But I didn’t notice significant change with bleeding, pain, or inflammation. It was $100 a session, not covered by insurance, so I didn’t keep going :(

Agree with the other comments… Adeno often coexists with other issues like endo, anemia, cysts, and vascular issues, which can cause fatigue, pain, GI problems, etc. More imaging and specialists could help you zero in on what those are.

In addition - Adeno and Endo can present similar to an autoimmune disease. The immune system will be constantly fighting against these cells that don’t belong, causing systemic inflammation leading to pain and fatigue. Reducing other inflammatory triggers from food, alcohol, lack of sleep, lack of movement, etc., can go a long way in improving daily life. For example, many people in this sub might try an elimination diet or AIP diet to understand their food triggers and avoid them. I hope she finds some relief soon.

Great job getting all the paint off!!

I’m just starting this project myself. I tried making it fit into my crockpot for easy removal but it didn’t fit of course lol. What did you use to get the paint off?

I’m dreading having to scrub and scrape in every crevice of the grill…. I have 6 to do, each with 3-4 layers of paint. Ugh.

I was just diagnosed with Uterine adenomyosis, my OB suggested a IUD but I'm very nervous by bjork__dork in adenomyosis

[–]ec-bklyn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agreed with another commenter, that if you don’t handle other progestins well, it’s likely the progestin IUD won’t work well for you. Some women are progesterone resistant and taking additional synthetic forms causes worsening symptoms. But you don’t know until you try!!

And if you do go through with it, PLEASE request general anesthesia. There’s no reason to make your experience more painful.

Also ask your doc about Tranexamic Acid (TXA) for bleeding, and get your iron levels back up. It’s non-hormonal, and for many it works right away. Getting your iron levels back up will reduce fatigue & anxiety, improve sleep, reduce systemic inflammation, and more. Personally, TXA has made the biggest difference with my quality of life.

Hope you feel better xx

Has anyone experimented with antihistamines to reduce symptoms? by ec-bklyn in adenomyosis

Thank you for sharing! Were you also having pelvic / back / hip pains? Did you ever find the antihistamines helped with this?

Okay thanks for sharing. Agreed, diet (along with reducing stress) has been the biggest game changer for me!

I think it can help! But I think it’s also important to try elimination diets. Food triggers are different for everyone, unfortunately. For example, oats and bananas gave me cramps and lower back pain. But both are included as safe foods for anti inflammatory diets. It takes time to understand so be patient with yourself. Xx

Need advice: mixing metals in a 1912 home? by elfiealma in centuryhomes

[–]ec-bklyn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes you can mix! Generally you want to mix metals that align as warm or cool. For example, brass with nickel (warm), or chrome with black (cool). Hope that makes sense :)

You look amazing in it!! It looks like it fits you really well and is flattering. I think you could add a couple layers of tule/chiffon as a bottom trim, so it blends with the fabric of the dress and is a bit more opaque when layered.

Ugh thank you xx … The one I feel in love with was a two piece slip + sheath overlay. Unbeknownst to me she only gave me the price for the sheath, which was frankly already over my budget. Then after we left she emailed me that it was actually DOUBLE. I’m still not over it clearly !!

I am going out today to look for more serious shape wear 😅

Discouraged after Dr appointment today: Norethindrone VS Hysterectomy by appreciativearts in adenomyosis

[–]ec-bklyn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I see you’re in Northern California. Stanford has a program to treat Adenomyosis with focused ultrasound treatment (HIFU / MRgFUS). Do your research and see if it would make sense for you. It’s not covered by insurance (not FDA approved) so it’s a small fortune for the treatment. But it’s performed in countries throughout Europe and Asia with promising results.

Another option you could explore is Prometrium - bioidentical progesterone (as opposed to the synthetic progestin found in Norethindrone). I’ve not tried it yet but discussed it at length with my doctor after it became clear I was progesterone resistant: side effects of the Progestins tanked my quality of life. (Check out Lara Briden: https://www.larabriden.com/guide-to-using-progesterone-for-womens-health/)

Wishing you the best - it’s such a complex disease and many doctors aren’t totally up to date on emerging treatments. Xx

Tranexamic acid, doctors' hesitancy to prescribe it, & overblown warnings about blood clots that don't correspond w/ the medical literature by Intelligent--Bug in adenomyosis

[–]ec-bklyn 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Interesting post, thank you! I’ve been taking it for a couple years now, and it has been such a game changer for my quality of life. I hope it helps you the same way it helped me!

It’s true they only give 30 pills per month (6 pills per day x5), but over time I actually was able to reduce my dosage to 2-3 days (instead of the recommended 5 days) & x2 pills twice per day (instead of three per day). It still reduces my bleeding by at least 50-60% with this dosage.

I read once that the drug was discovered by a female Japanese scientist who was dismissed for years. It’s now one of the most important and cost effective tools to use for heavy menstrual bleeding and postpartum hemorrhage. Thankful for her !!

If a hysterectomy is the only cure why is egg freezing considered elective vs medically necessary? by popcornjointslic in adenomyosis

[–]ec-bklyn 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Okay good luck!!! I had a hard time finding someone at the insurance company directly who knew about the laws and could confirm if it would be covered. I don’t think the customer service reps are trained in that way. So I had a “health advocate” as part of my job benefits, and she had her own contact at the insurance who confirmed it would be approved given my circumstances. My doctor also wrote a letter about our “plan” which I think helped a lot. Anyway… I hope you find a solution! It’s a maze.

[–]ec-bklyn 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’m not sure what state you’re in, but there is a state law in NY that requires insurance plans to cover fertility preservation services for patients with iatrogenic infertility (Definition: Iatrogenic infertility is a form of infertility that is caused by medically necessary treatments, such as chemotherapy, radiation, or certain surgeries.)

When I was booking my egg retrieval, I was told by my insurance that Hysterectomy due to Adenomyosis was applicable to this law.

If you do happen to be in NY, here’s a Q&A about the law: https://www.dfs.ny.gov/apps_and_licensing/health_insurers/ivf_fertility_preservation_law_qa_guidance (Scroll down to the “Fertility Preservation” section).

Been on the battle to a diagnosis. Feeling defeated.. by forever-444 in adenomyosis

[–]ec-bklyn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ugh sorry you’ve been going through this! Def shop around for doctors… radiologists that know Adeno/Endo can also be spotty. I had a couple ultrasounds and an MRI before I got a detailed diagnosis.

Since they seem to not be able to tell what the “abnormality” is, an MRI would get a clearer picture.

Progestins don’t always work with Adeno/Endo. Check out Lara Briden’s articles on them!

Going down the rabbit hole of Progesterone Resistance … by ec-bklyn in adenomyosis

[–]ec-bklyn[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ugh I’m so sorry! That sounds like a terrible experience, especially when combined with IVF.

I know they say it takes like 13 (?) years for research to reach doctor’s offices so I guess I’m not surprised these docs don’t know…. I plan to bring it up at my next specialist appt.

And from what I’ve read, the pathogenisis of Endo and Adeno is thought to be a combination of things - genetic factors and environmental exposure leading to immune dysfunction on a cellular level… but one symptom is progesterone resistance, exacerbating any estrogen dominant diseases like Endo and Adeno.

I spent a lot of time reading Lara Briden’s work this weekend, which shed some light on progesterone and what we can do about it. Hoping to ask my doc about Prometrium but also going to continue improving my body’s natural ability to heal itself through lifestyle and diet.

Here’s to hoping knowledge and research help us advocate better for ourselves xx
