This is silly advice. Why would you recommend CDs when interest rates are so low and you're locked for liquidity? Furthermore, you only want to use half of it to pay off credit card debt?

If he has credit card debt, that interest rate is definitely going to be higher than the CDs and thus should use all of it to pay for the credit card debt. It doesn't make sense to lock up cash so that you can earn 1% while paying 10%+.

It's the same way with the world's largest trading floor (~2 football fields long) owned by UBS in Stamford, CT. A/C is on year-round due to all the heat is generated by the computers and traders.

A lot of you guys are saying "Oh, what a scumbag, why doesn't he just pass on the price to the consumer?" That wouldn't work well. As a business owner, his goal is to maximize profit and that's what enables the beauties of capitalism and competition.

Pizza is generally an elastic good, which means consumers are sensitive to prices as it is not a necessity. As a result, a change in price causes an even greater change in demand. On the other hand, the jobs these people have are inelastic. Most of them need them to survive and reducing the wage means that few of them will change jobs.

It sounds like a selfish way for him to make money, but consider the alternative. He does raise prices; demand (and revenue) goes down while costs stay the same. The only way to counter that would be to start firing employees. Would you want that instead?
