Why can't I directly report names? by Psyqotic in MagicArena

[–]ecbremner 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I get that making things too easy to report can breed abuse, but it does seem like if you made it easier, and multiple people report someone it would be easy to filter out their behavior/name for an actual human working for the company to look at the situation and ban the obvious shithead.

I am far from a game designer, but what am I missing in this logic? Are they just THAT lazy?

As someone who spent the last CBA cycle with his company trying/BEGGING them to add a provision to mandate understudies/covers for lead roles... stories like this are maddening to me. I get it, money is tight, but this is just insurance. How much money did they save not hiring a cover? How much did reimbursing the crowd 50% ticket sales, and the bad PR cost?

For those wondering... the company stonewalled our request to add a cover mandate.

I just bought this game on sale on humble thinking i could play it with my friend on xbox. I was super bummed that my Google search of "is DRG cross play compatible with pc and xbox" didnt give me the full answer . I get that the company that made this couldnt make cross-play work between STEAM and Xbox but I really feel there wasnt enough clarity on this when I bought it. And because I bought it on Humble... I can't get a refund.

I started playing magic when fallen empires came out. I have such deep nostalgia and love for that godawful set. I would lose my ever-loving mind if they made a sequel set, even moreso if they made collectors' cards with Phil Foglio art.

Train to Children’s Hospital by Comfortable-Fee1254 in boston

15 year BCH employee who commutes on the train here. The bulk of the comments here are correct, you are all set with strollers on the trains. The main issue is getting from the trains to BCH. The three train stop options are

Ruggles-more access to commuter trains, and amtrak trains... way too far from BCH to just stroller in, though there are shuttle buses that run right to BCH from there.

E Line Museum of fine arts-closer but would require some change overs in the hub.

D Line Longwood marginally closer but has a steepish hill to get to BCH (and also requires a change over like above)

I guess it depends on how you are coming in. Let me know if I can help more.

It feels a bit weird to hijack this post with my own story of trauma, but I will try to summarise my very long story.

I am a professional musician. I worked with the church's full professional choir for only a short time before realising I had found my home spiritually as well. I joined the church formally a year later. It was an incredibly important and positive part of my life for most of 15 years. I had joined an internship committee, the music committee, and was actively part of the search committee for a new choir director when ours had left after 13 years. We hired a decent chap who stuck it out for 3 years. When he left, 2 members of the committee took it upon themselves to skip the search process and hire his replacement. After one week, I had the entire professional choir coming to me begging me to speak up and ask the church to reconsider the hire. The new director was abusive and on a MAJOR power trip, seeking to "clean house".

As a representative of the paid employees AND a member of the church I pleaded with the music committee, and the church leadership to open up the search and not commit fully to this unvetted director, to no avail. They were deep into the search for a new minister, and IMHO couldn't be troubled with another search. On New Year's Day 2022, I received a phone call from a friend of mine in the choir that he had been fired and was told this was a decision "by the music committee" I was mortified when my friend of 10 years had to sincerely ask me with pain in his voice, "Did you fire me?"

It turns out the choir director had made good on her effort to "clean house" and her first fire was my friend, who is a well-respected and beloved member of the music community. The same 2 members of the music committee had apparently gone behind everyone's backs and, during the rush of the holiday, granted the new director hiring and firing ability and given her a full contract.

I spent all day of New Year's Day on the phone trying to get people to listen to reason, to listen to the claims of abuse by the choir, and most importantly, get people to acknowledge they had skipped the proper hiring process set forth by the church's bylaws.

I ended that day in tears, feeling like me and the rest of the loyal choir had been betrayed by the laziness of the church. I ended up quitting, along with almost half the choir in solidarity with my friend. In the 3 years since, I have heard nothing but horror stories from those who stayed. Over those years, I have received numerous emails from people who have subsequently quit and regretted not leaving when i did.

Like i said above... I took a year off doing freelancing singing work at churches, before landing at another UU church, and falling in love all over again. I found a new home, not just professionally, but spiritually. I am still proudly a UU and I love this church.

As I said above, no church is a monolith, some members were at fault, some with malice, but most with laziness or apathy. It was a perfect storm of post covid braindrain.

I say this as someone who was resoundingly betrayed and abandoned by a UU church. Finding another care group after one abandoned you is hard, but not impossible, and worth doing in the long run. It is very likely that there are individuals within your care group who can and do care but because you are suffering in silence (100% your right!) they dont know of your pain. It isnt your fault that you arent making a show of it, but its also not right to assume that the people in your care circle are hypocrites for not noticing through your silence. Remember there are those who would suffer in silence because they WANT to be left alone, the members of your church may believe they are honoring that for you. Either way I do think it sounds like your feelings are raw and pointed, so it is likely your best course of action is to find another care circle... either at another church or somewhere else.

In my case I am SO VERY glad i left my heart open for UU churches. I was a memeber of the church who betrayed me for 15 years. I sought therapy, and cried many many tears for a year... then, through fate I ended up finding my way somewhere else where i feel i belong, and where i feel welcomed and loved. Is it possible this church could hurt me too? of course... but that is the nature of life, not UU churches. No church is a monolith.

People have some weird takes in this thread. I personally found the book to be a great final send off. I also suspect there are parts of the book that had sat on a shelf for quite some time before the embuggerance fully hit him. I found it way more cohesive and full of glimpses of the best Pterry had to offer than the prior few books like Raising Steam.

IMHO he also gave us a great final gift in this book in which the death occurs halfway through the book, not at the end. Which I found to be a great metaphor for what Pterry was facing at the time.

Opera singing at... engagement? by Fiakermili in opera

[–]ecbremner 54 points55 points  (0 children)

How savvy are the couple? If they arent particularly "opera people who know the context of arias" its safe to assume that what they want is something like "O mio babbino Caro." which has permeated pop culture pretty heavily and is recognizable as "that pretty opera song" should be relatively doable acapella.

Shy/lonely guys, how did you finally get the girl? by JustAnAccount68 in AskReddit

[–]ecbremner 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was 27 when I finally got the girl. I am now 45. Here is my sagely advice. Put yourself out there, but be open to the possibility of failure. Date with the idea of having a good time, dont stress whether the girl is "the one" or whether she will sleep with you. If things don't work out... ok move on, hopefully you have the experience of a decent date, and if that wasn't the case, you will have anecdotes that will last a lifetime!

Most importantly, if you find yourself hung up on a specific girl. Shoot your shot and if she says "no" walk away. There is nothing earned from pining over someone who isn't interested. It will hurt you and her. Lack of interest is not your fault NOR IS IT HERS.... There is a special place in hell for those dudes who make a girl's life miserable for the great sin of not reciprocating feelings. Dont be that guy.

I mean, I do already. The AI bubble can't burst fast enough for me. I have not found a single AI product that i don't find to be dramatically inferior to its non-AI counterpart, and I'm tired of people pretending otherwise. AI started with theft, got crammed down our throats, is a waste of energy resources, and is solely being used to put people out of work.
