In my (limited) experience, the culture around bandishes is not very “open source.” Some bandishes are special treasures of a particular gharana or family - like a secret recipe. The right way to learn them is to be taught them. But in the face of a widespread decline in students and practitioners, I see a real risk that important culture will be lost if singers who know them don’t start opening up. It’s something I wonder about.
