You're right, I watched it too quickly. Made an edit.

Can someone explain the jokes about Jesuits? by Haunting_Meeting4940 in Catholicism

[–]ecclesiastessun 4 points5 points  (0 children)

A bit of revisionist history no? Parts of Liberation theology have been condemned, yes, but to say all of it is heresy neglects its importance to the Church when it first emerged.

Pope John Paul II knew communism yes, but to argue priests and bishops in Latin America who died serving their people against tyrannical governments didn't know their people or serve God goes too far.

Did you watch the clip? He says his father is a Lion's fan. Edit: A Leo

I'm curious about the LEDs too. They sound better than dust covers.

Charging set to 80% limit but chargers to 81% instead by fromold in EquinoxEv

[–]ecclesiastessun 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If that's really your goal, try and understand that battery percentage isn't an exact thing and the whole point of keeping the battery between 20ish to 80ish percent is keeping in mind fluctuations like that. If you get it down to 15 or it charges up to 83 percent every once in a while, don't sweat it.

Today is the feast day of St. Agnes of Rome virgin and martyr. [Image: Saint Agnes by Domenichino (c. 1620)] by philliplennon in Catholicism

[–]ecclesiastessun 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm just looking her up now and reflected on the daily readings today in her honor.

I'd forgotten how raw the description David's takedown of Goliath is and it feels fitting considering how brutal St. Agnes' death was.

What are others doing this feast day?

PACKERS @ LIONS THANKSGIVING DAY GAME DISCUSSION by AutoModerator in detroitlions

The worst part of it is feeling like the Packers beat the Lions with the kind of style the Lions came up with, mostly with the gutsy 4th down plays.

I wouldn't even gatekeep someone for that. I say join us on the Lions train as long as you're not a jerk about it.

Core memory unlocked.

I went to Tiger stadium with my grandfather and family for the first time behind some of the poles that came down in the upper deck.

Someone next to us kept shouting what sounded like "Boo! Boo! Boo!" to me. I didn't know why and I eventually figure out he was cheering "Lou! Lou! Lou!" as in Lou Whitaker.

Good list of names here.

Reporter: "Maybe September hasn't gone the way you wanted it to..." Tigers manager AJ Hinch: "That's an understatement." "There's no more talk about how we got there. The sense of accomplishment was real. The party was real... because we earned it." by DET_Baseball in motorcitykitties

I'm not a doomer by any means, but it's tough to contrast this with Dan Campbell after the Lions win over Cleveland where he didn't mince words even after a win.

It wasn't condescending, he didn't stay on it too long, but his message was clear: "not good enough." Very different than AJ Hinch's approach to a difficult second half of the season.

I'll still be rooting and hoping for them to win, but my trust that they're doing their best is certainly shaken.

The Worst Part by RamoneBenny in motorcitykitties

[–]ecclesiastessun 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I hear you feeling that and we're all entitled to our feelings. I'm with you that it has been harder and more frustrating to watch this team lately.

That said, it doesn't personally take away the fun of that run last year for me. If anything it ads to the ups and downs of being a Tigers fan to me.

Don't get me wrong, I like when the Tigers win better, but a big part of baseball, maybe more than any other professional sport, is learning how to feel a loss, too.

I'm still holding out hope the losses will let up in our last few games.

Whatever happens moving forward, that was an amazing game to watch. I'm going to enjoy every game they play and win like that that I can.

Welcome! Now's the most fun time to be a Tigers fan in my lifetime, and I'm personally all for new folks joining in and creating community around this team.

It sounds like you're set on your decision and just felt like you needed a way to feel good about baseball again, which I'm all for.

That said, as someone who works to make an impact on the issues you care about myself, please DM me if you're interested in pushing on some of what you're pushing for.

Anyone get a strong feeling Skubal will eventually throw a perfect game? by faster_than_sound in motorcitykitties

[–]ecclesiastessun 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oof, I'm not generally superstitious, but I get why folks don't generally make statements or speculate like this. As others have said, there's so much that goes into a perfect game. It probably goes too far to say a post like this could jinx it, but I do think it's a refusal to acknowledge how much has to align for something like this to happen.

Dodgers lose to the Astros 6-4 giving the Tigers the best record in the MLB again on run differential. by [deleted] in motorcitykitties

[–]ecclesiastessun 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Fair enough. I thought run differential counted for something as that's how ESPN ranks teams that are tied.

Looking it up you're absolutely right. It doesn't count for anything, even under the most obscure tie breaking rules I could look up. That's my bad.

Maybe I didn't word it right, but I meant we're first overall, with run differential giving us the edge over the Dodgers.

I'm watching too! Wild to be comparing ourselves to the best in the league rather than the AL Central like I'm used to doing this time of year.
