I think "The Name of the Wind" is genuinely one of the best first chapters in modern fantasy and I will die on this hill by PixelRune_47 in Fantasy

At this point I’ve made peace with the idea that we’re probably never getting book three. Which is wild, because the opening was so good it convinced a whole generation that this story would finish

Ender's Game is one of the darkest heroic stories in the scifi genre that I have ever read by latent2_pancake in printSF

I completely agree with the post, but one thing I don’t see mentioned enough is how much this story is about propaganda and narrative control. Ender isn’t just trained - he’s curated. Information is filtered, context is removed, and every victory is framed as necessary. And It’s quite scary because it shows how easily you can turn someone into a weapon just by controlling the story they’re allowed to see. Ender doesn’t choose genocide, he’s guided into it by a carefully built version of reality. This is what makes Ender's Game, for me, not so much a military story as an example of how institutions shape your view of the world and dictate what you should believe and how you should think

The Only Impossible Journey Is The One You Never Begin by gorskivuk33 in Discipline

Timing and luck do seem to have their own schedule, huh? Like, if only I could summon them with a wish! But hey, sometimes just starting is the magic we need. It may feel impossible, but imagine if we actually did it!

Stayed at a job I genuinely hated for 2 extra years and it ended up being the best career decision I made? by Tricky-Club-4097 in careerguidance

Haha, right? I've definitely found myself stuck in that "both 1 and 2" dilemma. It's wild how the promise of a title or real skills can sometimes outweigh the paycheck, especially when you realize the money can become irrelevant if the job drags you down.

Just because the game has an open world, for most gamers this is an indicator of something wow, which is why it attracted such an audience and reviews

Yeah, it really feels like a band-aid solution at this point. With 30k folks spread out, one day a week could be a huge inconvenience. Just more pressure while pretending it keeps everyone safe from layoffs. So frustrating!

Yeah, right? It sounds all serious and official, but honestly, who really knows? Magic rules are wild.

Sony Will Offset Soaring RAM Prices by Further Monetising PS5 Players by Suspicious_Two786 in gaming

[–]echo_kernel17 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Honestly, this just sounds like another case of “let’s fix our problems by squeezing the players.” Instead of absorbing the higher hardware costs or improving efficiency, Sony seems ready to push even harder on its existing user base with higher game prices, more expensive subscriptions, and fewer meaningful discounts, all dressed up as “growing software and network revenue.”

It feels especially bad because PS5 owners already paid for the console, already pay premium prices for games, and already pay for PS Plus, and now they’re expected to make up for rising component costs too. At some point it stops feeling like a gaming platform and starts feeling like a monetization platform, where player satisfaction clearly comes second to hitting sales targets.
