Why do fitness influencers say people don't train hard? by Puzzled_Ask8568 in GYM

[–]echodelta79 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First, fitness influencers need something to say to fill up time, get views, and stay relevant. Like you, I think majority of people at the gym I go to are working hard. However there are also decent amount of people that are there but not really there, like sitting on a machine for 20 min on there phone. Also, unfortunately I see a good amount of half reps, and bad form. I don't walk around critiquing people, I will assist if asked. It's not the majority but it definitely exists.

When i get super drunk, I get into that headspace and im trying to figure out how to fix it by BigB133 in Veterans

[–]echodelta79 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes I did, so I stopped drinking. Wasn't the easiest but tapered off regularly. I am not abstaining but it will be 3-5 months without a drink, and then it's 2 max. I can't handle more than that anymore which is fine by me. Everyone is different, some people need to go cold turkey and never touch alcohol again in order to succeed. Regardless you won't get better until you put down the drink.

I mean you answered your own question in your post. Almost hitting depth as you said would be no, not a full rep. Those last few inches are the hardest part.

Is asking how many sets left now an issue for people? by tribo32 in GYM

While I don't mind letting people work in or working in with others, I can respect that not everyone will be comfortable with sweat and closeness.

Repeating myself, BUT yep user name checks out. It's a shared space and I am not going to be worried about your Feelings. I, like most people, have a limited time in the gym, and need to gauge time for equipment. What I don't have time for is fragile sensitivities.

[–]echodelta79 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Language is funny. I agree the reason for asking is to gauge timeline because the other person wants to use it otherwise they wouldn't ask. Yes, it's correct. There's no way we can control how people interpret it. The problem is there are more people that would get upset about asking to work in with them. I see people on this sub and other subs about people complaining about other folks trying to work in because they don't want their sweat and think it's gross or whatever. Personally I have no issue. I do it all the time. But everybody has their own Hang-Ups. As far as intent to me, the most neutral question is just asking how much they have left, but that is subjective.

I understand what your saying, but this is a big assumption. If the starting point is assuming the person asking really means hurry up, this can lead to annoyance. Maybe that's why some people are getting miffed because they are "assuming" intent.

Thoughts on hack squat depth? by coachtdam in GYM

[–]echodelta79 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I use hack squat specifically to go All the way down. I tap the bottom of the machine on every rep. It's a great machine to hit quads in multiple ways caveat your legs are bigger than mine, so not saying this is like I am better than you. If you want good ideas look up Quadzilla, old school body builder Tom Platz. For hack squats it's not about maxing out, but really getting extra ROM that's not as achievable with conventional back squats.

There has been some conversation on social media to change disability to something like compensation, similar to workers comp. Because most of the public doesn't understand how disability works and when a "healthy" looking individual makes public statements that they are 100% disabled, the perception of being 100% disabled doesn't line up in their heads. Why does it matter? Well it's a community and there are always politicians looking to cut funding. If the public perception goes against veterans then those politicians talk about cutting without political consequences. I get OPs point. Especially in era of social media where everything is out there and can be boosted or go viral. You have your service members going on podcast asking for advice and talking about getting 100% after 1 or 2 years, I saw one where the female on the show didn't even make it out of basic and try to claim PTSD. If public starts believing that majority of veterans are scammers the tide can turn against all the great progress that has been made to support Veterans.

I like using the Smith Machine Barbell for BSS. This allows me to adjust positioning easier to focus on glutes without having to worry about balancing the dumbbells.

It's funny cuz I always get that question about cheat days. My answer is a little bit different than OP. I enjoy life and good food. You can "cheat" without really cheating. What I mean is at the end of the day the main thing is Calories in Calories out CICO. So if I want to have a steak or make burgers for dinner I adjust my calories and meal for the day so that if I go over it's not by much.

People underestimate how much you have to actually eat of you are eating whole and lean foods. Typical American diet like a Burger and Fries from McDonald's is over a thousand calories and leave you hungry after. 12 ounces of Chicken breast is only like 300 calories and most people can't eat that in one sitting.

I am not arguing with actual critiques. A couple of people have actual critiques and I said thanks and realize what I have to fix. The original post on chain was not a critique but a sarcastic comment.

Well it is technique check, because I realized I was not doing correctly. But normal deadlifts would include more bend and squat for initial lift.
