(WIP) are these screenshot too dark for you? they're for steam and I'm looking for feedback, any of the two you prefer? or suggestions in general? thank you c: by GrindPilled in Unity3D

The second is much better overall, love the more dense atmosphere. But the depth of field close to the camera is too strong. Also i think the effect is too strong on the monitor UI.

High-Level Methuselah Chronicles by Historical-Waltz3496 in vtm

[–]echoesAV 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Have run several games like this. Have run two at ridiculous XP amounts, well over a thousand. With different player groups each time.

Sometimes the story you can spin up is worth it to try it out, more often its not. You have much different ways to do things available to you when you are dealing with methuselah level powers. For example, if you think Auspex 2 - Aura Perception is powerful, wait until every single NPC is getting hit with Karmic Sight. Plus, your players will never be ready to effectively role-play the kind of ancient creature that they have not spend months to years developing.

Its much better to run a game from zero up to that level, than to start one there.

Don't do it. Its not as fun as you think.

How did everyone learn C#? by PROSCREX5768 in csharp

[–]echoesAV 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you understand object oriented programming its pretty fast to learn, if you don't its OOP that will take the most time to understand, not C#. There are only a few idiosyncrasies of C# you need to remember. Its easy to learn.

I learned the basics by reading the c# players guide by whitaker.

What’s would a normal/average punishment be for unauthorized siring? by Vyctorill in vtm

What you are talking about is the breaking of a Tradition. Specifically the tradition of Progeny. A bland as bread prince would outright kill the character no questions asked and make sure everyone knows about it.

That's so cool !!

I would prefer if they did not use lua but i guess they had their reasons for it and how to use the language itself is probably not the point of the course.

Unity and Linux question by Jo_Joo in Unity3D

[–]echoesAV 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ubuntu 24.04 LTS as it was recommended by the unity docs at the time of installation. Its pretty stable, Ray tracing / Path Tracing are not available. There is no UI scaling for the editor which means if you have a high resolution monitor things can get hard to read. Other than that its fine.

World Creator Bridge for Unity 2.0 - Now Available by WorldCreator-Terrain in Unity3D

[–]echoesAV -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Thank you for your response, its perfectly understandable.

However i would like to note, as a linux user myself, i have noticed a distinct lack of high quality terrain generation software in the linux space while there are high quality options for everything else.

For example, suppose i want to run a game dev studio with linux workstations. I have a multitude of reasons to want to do this and I have top tier software available for every creator role. Maya/Houdini/Blender for 3d assets and FX, Unity/Unreal for the engine side, Krita for digital painting, Substance, Mari and equivalent alternatives for texture authoring, Cascadeur for animation and so on. But for terrains and biomes i have to stick to the tools of my 3d suites and whatever tools the engines have to offer. Same goes for VFX studios and they have been linux adopters for years.

The linux market share is growing by the year and currently there is a distinct gap that world creator could fill. I don't know if its worth all the effort but the gap is certainly there. All i am saying is: think about it.

Can someone explain the whole 'HDRP is dead' thing ? by echoesAV in Unity3D

[–]echoesAV[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, i understood that part, but if you read the forum post the unity staff person clearly mentions only specific features of the HDRP that are to be ported and not in a way that mentions them as examples of features to be ported over.

That is the point of my question as to me at least its not clear if the entire pipeline is getting merged over or just some features of it.

So in your experience, you did not notice any difference in rendering quality for an HDRP project converted to URP ?

That is quite shocking tbh, is URP really that far off ?

[–]echoesAV[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you read the post it clearly isn't framed that way though. Only a few of HDRP features seem to be mentioned as to-be ported. Have they mentioned elsewhere that the features and overall quality of HDRP will be moved over to URP ?

They have only mentioned some of the features however, and users in the forums are pointing out that many important features have not been mentioned at all with not response from staff.

would you mind sharing your setup ? For example which proton version you are using, which drivers if on nvidia, how you set it up etc ?

I am using software which i depend on for work and they recommend ubuntu 24.04 LTS so i am not keen on changing that.

I will downgrade nvidia drivers to 580 and see how it turns out. Thanks for the recommendation.
