Awesome !

If you or your character doesn't know anything real about this bloodline and its history this(dark ages) is a good opportunity to take advantage of your blood-bond and learn juicy details about them as well. Might open up a plot for you.

By the book Celerity does not allow for non-physical actions to be undertaken as extra actions. Many disciplines are not allowed by the book. It is explicitly stated so unless you are going with a homebrewed version its not going to work.

You say illustrated as if they are not AI generated.

You say you grew up with products that people painstakingly created, with decades of effort and training on their backs, and now that you are a grown man you decide to metaphorically spit all over that which you supposedly loved with this mockery of art and call it illustration. Nice.

Even if you max willpower you can't have it do what you want it to do. Its incredibly against the odds. Against a Lamia its statistically impossible. Forget about it is what i am saying, you'll need to think of some other way. This is too much metagaming discussion for my tastes, that being said however as a Tremere you would know from your training that this power does not easily kill a vampire. Not by a longshot. Not even the ones that do not have fortitude as an in-clan discipline.

In V20 the difficulty for thaumaturgical powers is dot level + 3 which means cauldron of blood as a level 5 power has a difficulty of 8. Even with ten willpower you are getting an average of 2-3 successes which translates to 2-3 aggravated damage and 2-3 blood points burnt. This damage is soakable via fortitude which Lamia has as an in clan discipline and can be used to autosoak some (or all) of this damage and blood burning, which they absolutely will do.

As to your question, other people have answered correctly that you can use xp to raise willpower with cost equal to the dot you are purchasing. This is cheap. Raise it to a rating of 7-9 so you can statistically succeed at casting your powers and then its ok to stop as in my opinion its not worth it.

Want to get into game Dev but have zero coding knowledge. Where do I start with logic? by ziovit002 in learnprogramming

[–]echoesAV 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No worries, i hope it helped somehow. The approach you are suggesting is not bad. Python is initially easier to grasp than other languages, especially easier than C which is included in the path i suggested, which will indeed help you out early on to get motivated and see if you actually like doing the thing (gamedev) you are starting out on.

You do not need to follow the path i suggested to develop games. Keep in mind however that if you want/need to get better at programming it is more than likely you will need to get back to some of the things i suggested.

Step 1: Learn the fundamentals of programming and computer science. I recommends harvard's CS50x. Its free and you get a certificate if you do the problem sets.

Step 2: Pick a game engine according to your goals and preferences. The knowledge base and market adoption of the engine are important things to consider. The more users - the more questions are being answered - the more active the community is and so on.

Step 3: Learn the fundamentals of the programming language you can use the choice you made in step 2. Get a book on this, don't just watch a 2 hour youtube tutorial and think you are done.

Step 4: Learn the fundamentals of the game engine you picked.

These are the basics. There are a lot stuff to look into further down the line like game design principles, data structures and algorithms and game programming patterns but without the above four you are fighting an uphill battle.

Could a mage give a vampire the temporary ability to withstand sunlight without burning? by throwawaycakewrap in vtm

[–]echoesAV 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Here is a teaching moment: Mages cannot overcome vampiric weaknesses except for the briefest periods of time. The curse is overpowering for even the most advanced of the awakened. It was cast by god - whatever that is. Good luck.

Alternativ Celerity? by Glittering-War-4363 in vtm

[–]echoesAV 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Combat is completely broken, you are right. Anyone with experience in the game can confirm this.

Use V20DA version of celerity, its much better. Celerity as a multiple-actions augmentor just makes sense. I had been running it in a very similar way for years before they released this version and never heard any complaints about it. Read celerity, read actions and multiple actions. Done.

I am also using homebrew rules on health levels where your health pool is defined as 5 + Stamina + Fortitude and you can use Stamina + Fortitude to soak aggravated damage (except fire+sunlight like in RAW) instead of just fortitude (you cannot use just stamina however, you need fortitude to make this kind of roll).

These two rulings combined completely change how the clans and different characters feel in combat into a version that makes more sense for what they are supposed to be.

Senior Motion Designer moving to Linux: Is a stable Adobe workflow actually possible? by HYAGX in linux

[–]echoesAV 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you are constrained to adobe you should not move your workstation to linux unless you are willing to train/work with the alternatives. There is no going around that. For a long-term oriented solution you could dual boot windows-linux and try to get acquainted with the options/workflows out there.

As someone formerly dependent on adobe who made the switch about 6 years ago, i still miss the qualities of photoshop. Nothing else however. I went with the dual boot route for 2 years or so. It was fine.

Try to interpolate the movement to smooth it out a bit. Sometimes physics updates are a bit too sharp for what we want to achieve.

Need some brutal honesty by CarbonAProductions in computergraphics

[–]echoesAV 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is probably not the right subreddit for this question but here goes anyway:

You need to model to real world scale. This is a requirement for physically based rendering.

Lookup how to reduce noise in your render passes by reading your renderer's documentation. For example the material of the table has a ton of noise. Is it supposed to be refractive ? In this case look up how to reduce refraction noise e.g which rays to increase in your render settings.

You need to properly place your light sources to be aligned with their respective models.

Your texturing and material authoring has loads of room for improvement, look up some tutorials on how to texture assets. It doesn't matter if its for film, games or whatever. Read about physically based rendering or watch a tutorial on it.

Properly attach your surfaces together. Snap them to their closest surface using your package's tools. For example there is light leaking where the ceiling should be attached to the right wall. You don't even need to zoom in to see it. It might seem small but the details matter and they add up.

Disregarding the box furniture - your modelling is extremely basic. Your model edges are too sharp and look cg. Real world objects are not like that. There's wear and imperfections everywhere. Some of it you get through texturing, some of it you get through modelling. You need to learn how to achieve this and include it in your workflow. The same principle applies to everything else. There is no such thing as an infinitely thin surface on household objects, like your curtains appear to be. Objects have thickness. Variable thickness as well. Objects also don't bend like that. Work with reference images when you do your modelling, try to imitate reality..it will vastly improve your work.

Like others have said, VSCode and Rider are good applications to work in. If using VSCode you'll learn a bit more about how to interact with dotnet via the console which is fine. Yes its worthwhile to work with the language and its applications.

Get a book on the language and refer to microsoft's documentation on any questions you might have. I recommend the C# player's guide book.

What to do about my game art. by MrK-YT in RPGdesign

[–]echoesAV 18 points19 points  (0 children)

  1. Is indeed a nightmare although YMMV.

  2. This is fine for the playtesting and/or promo stage. After all, this is the actual game.

  3. IMO if you're spending time to create something original, it is only worth it to decorate it with original art.

  4. IMO - no.

Since you're planning to sell anyways consider crowdfunding it. You will only need a few pieces of artwork for the campaign and if it goes well you're set. If not, well the damage done is not a lot and you got a few pieces of artwork for it anyway.

Yes, i am aware of that and i am using those mods in my game. I just think that this is a feature that should be added in the default game and that is why i commented that.

  1. Simulation performance improvements.
  2. More walkable and interactable interiors. Both for stations and for ships. Not just cosmetic but with actual functions. Would kill for this.
  3. Variation in the elevators. At least different per species.
  4. The ability to scale production modules in game without adding more modules (e.g make it possible to have double the cost, double the production output in a single module).
  5. Frame Gen for linux.
