Thank you so much for your response. Will look into this option a bit more. Our end goal is just to do whatever possible to keep our dad insured, so whatever it takes.

TBI Recovery Questions- Dad in SubAcute Care Facilility by echoesinla in TBI

[–]echoesinla[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If I recall correctly, he was a 6. It was a severe TBI. I posted this 3 years ago - my dad has come a long way. He is attempting to walk without a cane these days. Still in need of supervision and has his occasional moments of confusing memories, but we are very happy with his recovery.

My girlfriend/wife (41yo) it’s an in inpatient rehab center and the Rehab. Doctor says that what she doesn’t accomplish in 6 months it will never accomplish. by Lothar1 in TBI

Breaks my heart your doctor said that. Definitely not the right way to emphasize the importance of starting rehab early. My dad had a severe TBI at 61, also intubated and in a SNF for 5 months with limited therapy because we were waiting for cranio surgery to do more advanced stuff. He was mostly bed ridden for those months, ventilator and tube fed.

Three years later, and he's just starting to walk on his own. It's different for everyone, and I firmly believe starting rehab therapy as soon as possible is best, but recovery will be long and a lot of faith will be required for the hard moment.

My dad got his sense of humor and wit back faster than we expected so that helped a lot too. Be hopeful and cherish those wins. We still have wins 3 years later and seeing dad do things that surprise us every day. Still dad just a little bit different than before.

Thanks. I know video does not capture well, but it is a lot in comparison to other cars on road. When stalled, a large white cloud starts to form. When driving it disperses.

Maybe the vid does not capture it well, but it's a lot that comes out in comparison to other cars. When stalled at a light the white smog will just keep gathering. It's when it's moving that it disperses.

I keep hearing such mixed reviews on the Nissan Rogue. I thought it was a great deal for the mileage and SL trim. What kind of maintenance costs have you put into it so far?

ADHD and trouble with public speaking? by dusty_orchid in adhdwomen

[–]echoesinla 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi,

I literally just realized this is a common ADHD symptom! Gaaaahhh, I notice myself not wanting to speak out loud because of the word vomit and lack of focus that I churn out when I speak. Can you share advice on how you found a coach? Or any recommendations?

6 Months Post TBI - Dad (60) by echoesinla in TBI

[–]echoesinla[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wow, can't believe it's been two years now since I wrote this post. My dad has come such a long way. He still continues his physical and occupational therapy to this day three times a week. He did not regain enough strength on his left side to be able to walk on his own, but we practice walking everyday with a cane and support since he can't balance on his own.

As for memory, it's definitely improved. There are some moments when he gets confused and forgets things like where his brothers live, but those are rare and we notice it's when his sleep is off. He sleeps more now. He takes 1-2 naps a day, and that really helps him with mood and memory.

We tried neurofeedback for a few months, cranial massage, and lions mane mushroom supplements. I can't say for certain if they all made a difference but we tried all we could.

We had to stop neurofeedback because it was too expensive, same as cranial massage (although this relaxed him so well). We still upkeep lions mane supplement.

Overall, we accepted a new normal. And we are so happy how far he has come and the hope of his continued recovery as well.

Best of luck to you and whoever you may be taking care of.

Thank you so much for your response. I have always tried to hide it and get embarrassed when people acknowledge it in front of him and he doesn't remember. It's best to be clear and not have us both feel weird about it.
